Chapter 50: A Deal
Eliza stepped toward Merlin with an annoyed, dissatisfied expression.
"Are you satisfied now?" she asked coldly.
Merlin let out a small chuckle, turned to her, and gave a slight nod. "Very satisfied. Now, let's continue the transaction inside."
Without waiting for her response, Merlin walked back into Eliza's office and sat down on the same sofa as before.
Eliza could only shake her head in resignation. Only now did she realize that Merlin was such an irritating and frustrating boy.
Strangely, despite being played by him, she actually started to like him—her view of Merlin had completely changed.
Shaking off her thoughts, she returned to her office. To make sure this boy didn't wander out on a whim, she closed the door and locked it.
Merlin: "..."
Was that really necessary? Was Eliza afraid he would run away?
"Then, I'll prepare the contract first," Eliza said as she walked toward her desk.
She picked up some documents and began writing, while Merlin sat back, occasionally sipping his cold chocolate.
A few moments later, Eliza finished and handed the contract to him.
"Would you like to read it first?" she asked.
Her tone was so polite, as if she were speaking to someone her own age, not just a child.
"No need. I trust you," Merlin replied softly.
Badump!
Eliza's heart skipped a beat. Her vision went blank, as if she were drunk.
Seeing her reaction, Merlin looked confused and asked in a worried tone, "Are you okay?"
Eliza snapped out of her daze and quickly cleared her throat in embarrassment. "I'm fine. Don't worry."
For some reason, Merlin's words made her body react strangely. She herself couldn't understand why.
'Could it be because I've been alone for too long that a child's sweet words can carry me away?'
The thought made her face burn. She wanted to bury herself in the ground. Fortunately, no one else knew.
If anyone had heard, she would have been branded shameful for harboring such inappropriate thoughts about an eight-year-old boy.
Unaware of her inner turmoil, Merlin simply nodded and placed the A-level potion on the table.
"Do you want to hand over the money in cash?" Merlin asked.
Eliza sat on the sofa opposite him and said, "I'll pay about thirty percent in cash. As for the rest, I'll transfer it to your account. Do you have one?"
Merlin smiled awkwardly and scratched his head. "I'm sorry, Auntie. I don't."
The account she mentioned was similar to a bank account in his old world. Don't underestimate it just because this is a fantasy world.
In fact, the financial sector here was fairly advanced—there were banks and savings-and-loan systems.
Of course, compared to his old world, the difference was like heaven and earth. But that was only natural. After all, The Lost Hero was a novel that blended medieval, fantasy, and magic elements.
At that moment, Eliza realized her mistake. Merlin was only an eight-year-old boy. How could he possibly have an account already?
"Ahem!" Eliza cleared her throat in embarrassment. "It's okay. I'll set up a temporary account for you and keep the money there. Once you're older, you can open your own account and transfer it over. How does that sound?"
"That's fine!" Merlin agreed enthusiastically.
Eliza couldn't help but smile. She then guided Merlin to sign in a few places before handing him one of the documents.
"Keep it. Although we know each other, we still have to be professional," Eliza said.
Merlin didn't refuse. He understood that their transaction was far too large. For their mutual security, such a contract was necessary as a precaution.
Once everything was settled, Eliza walked toward the vault on the right side of the room. The vault was massive, secured by layers of complex mechanisms. For a thief to break into it, it would take an enormous amount of effort.
And even if they managed to force their way in, magical defenses were waiting on the inside.
Merlin, of course, didn't follow her in. From his seat, he simply observed. The vault was spacious, but what caught his attention was not the size—it was the mountain of gold coins inside.
"Five hundred thousand—no, maybe millions? Damn, that's a lot!" He was stunned.
Even as the heir of the Clay family, that amount was overwhelming. And this wasn't even all of it. He was certain they had more stored in banks in Droswen City, or perhaps even in the capital.
'No wonder Alkira can stand as the biggest and only potion shop in the city—their wealth is simply incredible!' he thought to himself.
Of course, the money didn't belong to Alkira, let alone Eliza. It was the property of the Blue Sky Trading House. They were the truly wealthy ones.
A few minutes later, Eliza emerged from the vault carrying a heavy red bag.
"It's about thirty thousand gold coins," she said, slightly out of breath.
She placed it on the table, and the top opened slightly, revealing a heaping pile of gold coins.
"Can you carry it?"
Eliza studied his small body. Even she had struggled with it—how could a boy like him manage?
"Auntie, you underestimate me." Merlin grinned faintly.
With a wave of his hand, the bag of gold coins—thirty thousand in total—vanished from sight.
"How is that possible?" Eliza was dumbfounded. "Is that magic? Wait… how can you use magic?"
She had heard from Ardhis that Merlin awakened a guardian spirit. But as far as she knew, he didn't practice magic. So how could he do this?
Merlin only smiled, offering no explanation. He rose to his feet and bowed respectfully.
"Thank you, Aunt Eliza. I'll be going now."
Eliza snapped out of her shock and drew a deep breath to calm herself.
"Alright, take care."
Merlin gave a small nod and walked toward the door. Yet, just before leaving, he paused and glanced back at her over his shoulder.
"By the way, if I happen to get more potions, can I sell them to you?"
"More potions?" Eliza's heart raced. Without hesitation, she nodded quickly. "Of course! Please sell them to me—I'll give you a fair price!"
Now, she was no longer willing to cheat or play tricks on him. Merlin was not an ordinary innocent boy—he was clever, intelligent, and unpredictable.
This was the first time she had ever met a boy like him. She was certain he would grow into an extraordinary figure. That was why she needed to seize this chance to build a good relationship with him.
Merlin smiled and walked away. Once his figure disappeared from sight, Eliza took a deep breath and turned her gaze to the flawless gold-level potion in front of her.
"What a fortune to obtain this potion. With it, I can surely earn a promotion—maybe even a transfer to the capital!"
Had Eliza known Merlin could pull out so many potions like this, she would never have let him walk away so easily…
