The Extra Villain: I Made a Contract With The Dragon Empress!

Chapter 23: Make a Contract!

"Eh?" Merlin was surprised to see her fall silent. "Why are you quiet, Lyserra? Do you agree or not?"

If Lyserra refused, he would simply give up. There was no point in persuading her if she was unwilling.

The bond between a contract spirit and its master should be formed honestly and sincerely. Only then could they grow stronger together.

Lyserra took a deep breath and gave a small nod.

"Very well. I accept your offer."

Her answer caught Merlin off guard. He stared at Lyserra in astonishment and confusion.

"What did you just say? You accepted it? I didn't hear wrong, did I?" He pricked his right and left ears one after the other.

Lyserra rolled her eyes and replied in an annoyed tone, "You didn't hear wrong. I agreed to become your contract spirit."

"Hiss!" Merlin sucked in a sharp breath. "So you finally gave in to me?"

He had been ready to give up if this stubborn dragon rejected him again. But unexpectedly, she accepted!

The thought of having a primordial dragon as his contract spirit instantly lifted his spirits.

Noticing his overly excited expression, Lyserra subconsciously smiled. She quickly suppressed it, though, and returned to her usual indifferent demeanor, her face cold.

"Don't grin like that. Your face just looks disgusting," she said, her expression dripping with disdain.

Merlin: "…"

It was the first time he had been met with such sharp mockery. In his previous world, he hadn't been particularly handsome, but he wasn't ugly either—just ordinary.

But Merlin Clay was different. He had a striking face and a tall frame. Even though the body he now occupied was only eight years old, Merlin Clay still looked charming.

Had it not been for his annoying behavior—all because of that cursed misfortune—the real Merlin Clay would have been the idol of girls his age.

"[Master, Lyserra's gaze is really irritating. I feel sorry for you,]" the system said with a soft sigh.

If only it had hands, it would have patted Merlin on the shoulder, as if to encourage him to keep his spirits up.

The corner of Merlin's mouth twitched slightly. Somehow, the system's words sounded more like mockery than encouragement.

Shaking off his thoughts, he regained his composure. "Then, let's draw up the contract."

Lyserra gave a small nod, lowered her head, and leaned toward him.

Merlin raised his right hand, touched her head, and closed his eyes, exclaiming, "Contract, activate!"

Buzz!

A golden book suddenly descended from the sky. It emitted a bright light, its pages slowly unfurling.

Merlin stared at it, murmuring, 'So that's the Book of Wisdom, huh?'

As the name suggests, the Book of Wisdom is a book with its own consciousness. Although it could not speak, it was alive and could understand those who addressed it.

When a human and a spirit form a contract, the book appears as a witness.

By the way, the Book of Wisdom itself is also a spirit. Unlike ordinary spirits, it has no master.

It had existed since the time of the first Holy King—King Arthur—who once made a contract with the Dragon of Light.

Whoosh!

A streak of light shot from the book, and in the next instant, white words appeared above Merlin and Lyserra.

"Do you agree to enter into a contractual bond?"

Merlin gave a small nod and replied loudly, "I agree!"

Lyserra nodded as well. "I agree too," she said.

Whoosh!

Golden light once again radiated from the book, filling the entire hall.

After a while, the light faded, and the Book of Wisdom vanished from sight.

'Has the contract been finalized?' Merlin asked, a hint of doubt in his voice.

In the novel, the process of forming a contract between humans and spirits was never fully explained.

All that was mentioned was the existence of the Book of Wisdom and other related details, without directly describing how the contract took place.

At first, Merlin thought the process would be difficult or complicated. But, to his surprise, it turned out to be surprisingly simple.

"[The process is indeed simple, Master. However, it becomes difficult if the spirit you wish to contract rejects you. That's why I advised you to persuade Lyserra first before forming the contract,]" the system explained casually.

"So that's how it works…" Merlin gave a small nod and then a thumbs up. "As expected of the system! You really are amazing!"

"[Ahem! Thank you for the compliment, Master. I feel so embarrassed,]" the system said shyly.

System: "(⸝⸝⸝>﹏<⸝⸝⸝)"

Merlin was about to laugh at that expression but quickly held it back. Otherwise, Lyserra might have thought him crazy for laughing to himself.

"By the way, untie the chains on my body. They're very distracting."

Lyserra's irritated voice snapped Merlin out of his thoughts.

"Untie those chains?" He looked doubtfully at the bindings on her legs and body. "How am I supposed to do that? If you can't do it, there's no way I can."

Lyserra rolled her eyes. "This is your dimension of consciousness. Obviously, you're the master, and everything here is under your control."

"Oh? Is that so?" Merlin's eyes lit up. "Then…"

His gaze fixed on the chains. He raised his right hand and shouted, "Shatter!"

Crack!

The chains immediately cracked and broke into pieces.

"It worked!" Merlin cried out in amazement.

He hadn't expected that mere words could actually shatter the chains.

Lyserra exhaled in relief as the bonds around her body vanished. She rose to her feet, her massive form nearly brushing the ceiling of the hall.

For reference, the hall was probably more than fifty meters tall—but even so, the tip of Lyserra's head reached it, a testament to her immense size.

Suddenly, Merlin felt her cold gaze on him and asked nervously, "What's with that look? Why do you look like you're about to eat me?"

Lyserra tilted her head and grinned. Her mouth opened slightly, revealing sharp fangs.

"If that's the case, how will you stop me?"

Merlin: "…"
