Chapter 98 Return to Camp (Please follow and vote!)

When Chu Feng encountered such a situation for the first time, he immediately grabbed the other person's arm and lightly pulled them up.

"Pleading with me is useless... haven't you realized yet? Your sister Laila has been dead for a long time!"

"What?"

The shock was overwhelming for Ryan. He stiffly turned his head, his eyes filled with disbelief as he looked at his sister standing calmly behind him.

"Laila, Mr. Chu Feng is lying, right?"

Hearing her brother's question, Laila didn't answer but instead slowly revealed a beautiful smile on her fair face.

Upon seeing his sister's familiar smile, Ryan despaired and collapsed onto the cold road.

"Goodbye, Ryan! Live well..."

With those last words, Laila's body gradually turned into countless pure white points of light, floating towards the sky.

"To think that a soul so pure and unblemished truly exists!" Chu Feng murmured in shock, watching the specks of light in mid-air.

Under the city's dense Bizarre aura, her soul hadn't transformed into a Bizarre after death, nor had it dispersed. Instead, it had maintained its spirituality. For the moment, that was the only explanation Chu Feng could come up with.

Meanwhile, Ryan, sprawled on the ground, just stared blankly at his sister's vanishing soul, seemingly having lost the ability to think.

A long while later, when the light spots from Laila's soul could no longer be seen in the sky, Ryan slowly got up from the ground.

Without speaking to Chu Feng, he walked stiffly in the direction of his home.

"Have you thought it through?" Chu Feng said softly as he watched the departing figure.

Although the voice wasn't loud, it clearly reached Ryan's ears.

He still didn't respond, not even altering his pace.

Walking slowly to the secret door of the basement, he reached out, opened it, and descended the stairs. The door swung shut automatically behind him with a dull BANG.

Descending slowly to the basement, Ryan's steps finally began to slow.

He looked at the corner where he and his sister had just nestled together, and at the familiar figure lying there quietly.

With staggering steps, Ryan walked over to his sister's side and slowly held her in his arms.

Seeing her limp arm and the few white nitroglycerin tablets in the palm of her hand, a tear finally slid down Ryan's cheek.

BANG.

On the street above, Chu Feng heard the gunshot from the nearby basement. Watching Ryan's light gradually dissipate in his Spiritual Perception, he ultimately sighed.

"Alas! This world... these Bizarre deserve to die!"

He turned, walked back into the building, and with a casual slash, turned a wandering spirit to ashes. Then Chu Feng sat down cross-legged on the living room sofa and began to meditate in silence.

When Chu Feng opened his eyes again, nearly five hours had passed.

Stepping outside, Chu Feng saw the sun slowly setting and immediately headed towards the camp he had come from.

On the way back, members of the Exorcism Department dressed in gray-black Combat Suits were still moving in groups of five, wearing backpacks filled with golden canisters and traversing every corner of the city.

Of course, Chu Feng had also seen some Exorcism squads completely decimated, their members dead in grisly ways. They must have encountered powerful Evil Spirits.

As for the golden canisters they left behind, Chu Feng had also picked one up to inspect.

He had thought it was made of gold, but after examining it, he found that it was just an alloy canister with a layer of gold paint on top.

Apart from its ability to contain Bizarre, thanks to the Runes inscribed on it and when used in conjunction with an Exorcist's Spiritual Power, it held no other value.

So the Spirit Trapping Formation can be used like this... I hadn't thought of that!

After carelessly tossing aside the empty canister, Chu Feng continued to sprint towards the camp.

After a long while, Chu Feng finally saw the off-road vehicle he had left behind.

He got in the car, inserted the key, and fired up the engine.

The off-road vehicle, having waited for Chu Feng for a long time, finally roared to life once more.

Ten minutes later, Chu Feng returned to the temporary camp, just as the sun had completely vanished beyond the horizon.

Upon getting out of the car, Chu Feng gazed at the now much quieter camp, scanning the surroundings with a puzzled look.

To his surprise, he noticed that at least half of the Exorcism Department's personnel had vanished from the camp compared to when he had left.

Still working this late? That doesn't seem like America's style!

Chu Feng didn't bother to ask anyone and headed straight for the single-person tent assigned to him.

Sitting on a chair in the tent, Chu Feng adjusted his position and then pulled out his phone to call Terry, the federal liaison officer.

It's best to get the money secured quickly!

I've already destroyed a Gate of Breaking Boundary. I need to get a third of the payment upfront. If I wait until the very end to claim it, who knows when I'll actually see that money!

After some intense verbal sparring over the phone, Terry only reluctantly agreed to apply for the payment after Chu Feng threatened to walk away from the job.

"Damn it! Good thing I was careful. I've always known this damned federal government is notoriously unreliable!" Chu Feng muttered, relieved, as he put away his phone, cursing those cunning federal officials.

"Hurry, hurry, assemble everyone!" Just as he was cursing, urgent shouts suddenly came from outside his tent.

What's happening now? Chu Feng sprang up from his chair in bewilderment, pulled back the tent flap, and peered outside.

In Chu Feng's field of view, all the personnel in the camp were already lined up neatly, fully geared as if ready to deploy immediately.

Chu Feng, somewhat puzzled, was about to go outside to ask what was happening when two Exorcism Department members clad in gray-black Combat Suits hurried to the entrance of his tent, blocking his way.

"Mr. Chu Feng, please wait in your tent for the time being!"

Looking at the two arms barring his path, Chu Feng stopped, sensing the tense atmosphere around him with some confusion.

What's going on? Don't tell me they intend to put me under house arrest?

"Please wait patiently. This matter does not concern you. The specifics are a military secret, so I regret I cannot disclose them," replied one of the Exorcism Department members, his voice low but respectful.

Chu Feng nodded and said, "Alright then. I'll wait here for a while."

Chu Feng waited at the entrance of his tent for a long time. He was growing restless and thinking of going back to rest when a tumult of disordered footsteps suddenly came from the east side of the camp.

"Move quickly! Load all the wounded onto the vehicles, and stay away from the one in the middle..."

Following a military officer's shouts, a large group of Exorcism Department members swarmed into the camp.
