Chapter 78: Boris's Phone Call
Chu Feng slowly searched the outskirts of the town, yet he hadn't come across anything Bizarre all along the way.
Only then did he remember to look up at the sky.
Sure enough, the Holy Power barrier had disappeared without him realizing when.
When he dashed like a bolt of lightning to the entrance of Mar Town, he saw that the huge cross that once stood at the edge of the town had indeed fallen to the ground.
Chu Feng walked over to the cross for a closer look and saw that its base had completely rotted away.
I wonder how Bishop Connell arranged this? How could such an important barrier be left unguarded!
Puzzled, Chu Feng then had a sudden thought. Or could there be some special purpose behind it?
As Chu Feng stood up, intending to call Bishop Connell, he suddenly noticed a convoy of cars driving towards him from the far end of the town's main road.
Looks like I don't need to make that call!
Chu Feng pocketed his phone, a smile touching his lips as he stood there, waiting for the convoy.
Before long, a familiar minivan pulled up in front of Chu Feng.
"Bishop Chu Feng, how are you?"
Monk Kuno, stepping out of the car, cautiously approached Chu Feng, raising a cross as if to test him.
"Don't be afraid. I've already dealt with the Demon."
Looking at the wary monk, Chu Feng helplessly pushed the cross aside and turned to look at the bustling crowd behind him.
"Why have so many of you come?"
"After receiving your message, Bishop Connell urgently ordered more crosses to be brought from the church. These were intended to replace the damaged cross in Mar Town."
"Those won't be needed anymore, Monk Kuno. Your main concern now should be the Bizarre creatures that escaped!"
"Ah? Bizarre creatures?"
Monk Kuno stared blankly as Chu Feng prepared to get into the car. Realization dawned, and he hurriedly followed.
"Let's go. We need to get back and tell Bishop Connell the good news that the Demon has been dealt with!"
...
「Two hours later, Lyon Main Palace Hospital.」
In the familiar hospital room, Bishop Connell listened to Chu Feng's entire account, then gave a wry smile and shook his head.
"Bishop Chu Feng, you've really left us with a mess!"
Chu Feng shrugged nonchalantly.
"I didn't expect your Holy Power barrier to be so fragile. And I certainly didn't expect it to be unguarded."
At this, Chu Feng's interest was suddenly piqued.
"Bishop Connell, did you have some kind of plan? Otherwise, why would you leave the Holy Power barrier unprotected?"
Hearing Chu Feng's question, the smile slowly faded from the face of the frail old man on the bed.
"We intended to lure out the rats from the Satanic Cult, but they didn't take the bait!"
Hearing about the Satanic Cult again, Chu Feng's interest was rekindled, and he quickly pressed for more information.
"Do you have detailed information on the Satanic Cult and the Holy Advent Society?"
"Oh? It seems you've encountered the rats from these two cults? In that case, I'll tell you what I know."
With Chu Feng's help, Bishop Connell sat up, leaning against the headboard.
"These two cults seem to have emerged only after the resurgence of the Bizarre. At least, The Holy See had no prior information about their existence."
"The Satanic Cult is active in Europe. Its membership numbers are unclear. They worship Lucifer, one of the Seven Great Demon Lords of Hell, also known as the Morning Star."
"The Holy Advent Society is active in America and worships the Hell Demon God Belfinger."
"One proud, one slothful?" Chu Feng murmured to himself.
"Exactly. They represent two of the seven deadly sins. Due to the influence of the Bizarre resurgence, their power has grown rapidly, and they've already begun to sow chaos, bloodshed, and slaughter everywhere."
"The Gate of Breaking Boundary in Mar Town this time was the handiwork of the Satanic Cult. So, Chu Feng, you must be wary of their retaliation."
Chu Feng hadn't expected to make enemies of two major global cults. It seemed his life was about to get very interesting!
"Don't worry. I'm returning to America tomorrow. If the Satanic Cult wants to find me, they'll have to get through the Holy Advent Society first."
"Just be sure you know what you're up against."
"No problem. Oh, and remember to tell The Holy See to send my payment through quickly. I'm short on cash!"
"Don't worry, I've already informed them..."
After bidding Bishop Connell farewell, Chu Feng went to visit Father Rojas, with whom he'd only had one lesson.
Unfortunately, Father Rojas was seriously injured this time. Although he had regained consciousness, visitors were not yet allowed in his room.
With nothing else to do and seeing it was still early, Chu Feng decided to stroll through the streets of Lyon, admire the beautiful women, and truly unwind.
Early the next morning, Chu Feng took the first flight back to New York.
...
The afternoon of the second day after returning to New York, Chu Feng was on his villa balcony, enjoying a cup of coffee in the warm sunshine, when the phone on the table suddenly vibrated.
A smile touched Chu Feng's lips as he glanced at the caller ID.
"Captain Boris. I was wondering, how are the higher-ups at the police department considering my terms?"
"I think it's best if you come down to the station. Some things are better discussed in person, not over the phone."
"Okay, I'll be right there!"
After hanging up, Chu Feng quickly dressed, went downstairs, and drove his Wrangler to the New York Police Department.
"Long time no see, Boris."
He arrived at the New York Police Department, in Boris's office—the same place they had met last time.
"Take a look. This is the authorization document signed jointly by the State Government and the New York Police Department."
"Really? Let me see."
As Chu Feng flipped through the documents, Boris hesitated for a long moment before he couldn't resist asking a question.
"Chu Feng, are you on good terms with Miss Valente?"
"Yes, pretty good. Why do you ask?" Thinking of the enchanting day he had spent with Tatyana, Chu Feng affirmed.
"No wonder the State Legislator supported by Miss Valente and Mr. Mancini also backed your terms."
"What do you mean?" Chu Feng asked, startled. He put down the document and looked up at Boris.
"Chu Feng, the terms you proposed are quite sensitive. They also involve the special status of Exorcists. Therefore, the matter had to be discussed in an emergency meeting of the legislators."
I see. Chu Feng thought. Looking at the document in his hand, an idea suddenly struck him.
"By the way, Boris, what about the thirty million US Dollars?"
Boris shook his head with a wry smile.
"I told you that was impossible. The department's higher-ups only agreed to one million US Dollars in compensation. And even that has to be paid in installments!"
"What? Isn't that just bullying an honest man?" Chu Feng glared, his eyes wide with anger.
"Hey, calm down. You proposed so many special conditions. The department higher-ups only agreed to one million US Dollars because I repeatedly pushed for it."
