Chapter 264 Inside the Qingxuan Sect

Chu Feng arrived in Qingxuan City in his second year. This was also his third year in this world. It was then that the grand disciple recruitment ceremony of the Qingxuan Sect finally commenced in the Qingxuan Mountain Range, just outside the city.

After passing the three trials—Trial of Spirit, Trial of Heart, and Trial of Luck—only a few dozen people remained standing before the gates of the Qingxuan Sect.

It should be known that at the beginning of the recruitment ceremony, merely after passing the Trial of Spirit, at least tens of thousands of people had participated in the subsequent entrance tests.

Standing in a corner of the crowd, Chu Feng wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and looked back at the forest behind him with lingering fear.

Just there, he almost had to restart from the beginning!

Trial of Luck... Trial of Luck, he had never imagined that it was indeed a test of luck...

The person in charge of this recruitment ceremony was a young man in white. He appeared to be in his twenties and lacked the ethereal grace typically associated with an immortal.

But this was a world of Immortal Cultivation. Chu Feng didn't doubt that the other party could very well be an old monster, thousands of years old.

"Everyone, now that you have passed the tests, you can be considered disciples of our Qingxuan Sect and should thus guard against arrogance and impetuosity..."

The young man stood in front of everyone, speaking a great deal of encouraging words, but was slow to inform them of their next arrangements.

They stood before the mountain gates, listening to the young man's droning for a full hour. Their initial focused attention gradually turned into puzzled expressions, right up until the hypnotic voice finally ceased.

"Ah... They are all without the root of wisdom..."

As the young man looked on with a pained expression at the reaction of the crowd, a scolding voice suddenly burst into his ears.

"Qing Xu, shut your mouth! Bring the new disciples in at once, then go to the back mountain for reflection."

"Yes... Master!" The young man, who had just looked so pained and passionate, suddenly wilted.

"You all... follow me!" The young man looked again towards the crowd, opened his mouth, but remembering his master's warning, he ultimately turned and went ahead dejectedly.

"It's finally over..."

The people present looked at each other and each let out a long sigh of relief.

If they had to listen any longer, they all might have fallen asleep...

The moment Chu Feng stepped through the gates, a rich Spiritual Energy greeted him, instantly invigorating his spirit. The sleepiness he had felt was swept away in an instant.

"Truly worthy of the Qingxuan Sect, this Spiritual Energy is at least ten times denser than that within my family's territory!"

"If one could live here, perhaps even the common beasts would soon be able to perform Spirit Communication!"

"This is great, my father was right!"

"..."

Listening silently to the discussions of those around him, Chu Feng did not join in. His thoughts had already shifted elsewhere. I wonder when Senior Chu, who shares my surname, will appear? Remembering his instructions, I still find it hard to believe. Why? Why would he pay attention to someone as ordinary as me? And even consider taking me under his wing? I can't fathom what Senior Chu is thinking... Chu Feng still hadn't completely lost his self-awareness.

Just then, a familiar and lazy voice suddenly emerged in Chu Feng's ear.

"Kid, don't think too much. Having too many distractions isn't good for the path of cultivation."

"Senior?"

"What are you dazing for? Continue to follow that young fellow Qing Xu, and don't get lost..."

Hearing this, Chu Feng instantly snapped back to his senses and looked ahead, just as the crowd in front had turned a corner.

If not for that timely reminder, he might have truly gotten lost in the expanse of this Sect.

He hurriedly quickened his pace to catch up with the others, and the languid voice spoke up again.

"Kid, don't forget what I told you later."

"Senior, please rest assured, I understand!" Chu Feng replied.

The languid voice ceased, and the group finally reached their destination.

A grand hall with upturned eaves and intricately carved beams—this group of Qingxuan Sect's new disciples had just settled themselves inside.

Instantly, several streaks of light zipped past outside the hall. In the blink of an eye, they landed before the crowd, transforming into several figures with smiling faces.

"Oh, isn't this Old Ghost Chu? You're not on your Artifact Peak, drinking Spiritual Wine and crafting your Spiritual Artifacts; what brings you here today?"

An elder in a grey robe, stroking his long beard, glanced at the figure that had just landed beside him and asked teasingly, "Don't tell me, you're also thinking of taking on a few disciples this time?"

"Elder Chu Qing, could it be... you finally couldn't stand the Sect Master's nagging anymore?"

"HAHAHA!"

The words of a beautiful woman dressed in palace attire instantly set off a round of hearty laughter among the few people nearby.

The main subject of their banter, however, merely shook his head. He took a reddish-brown gourd from his waist, opened the lid, and took a sip. The rich aroma of wine instantly filled the entire grand hall.

"Sigh... I had no choice; the Sect Master's tactics have gotten an upgrade, and I really couldn't hold out anymore..." he lamented.

"Oh? Then that's something I'd like to hear!"

While everyone was somewhat curious, a solemn voice suddenly emerged, interrupting their conversation.

"Save the small talk for later. Let's get down to business first!"

Another streak of light fell, and an elder dressed in a black robe with a stern face cast a fleeting glance at the few people beside him.

"Yes, Senior Brother!" they replied.

The arrival of the black-robed elder immediately transformed the previously lighthearted atmosphere into one of gravity.

The smiles on the faces of the elders vanished in an instant. Their gazes swept over the new disciples who had been waiting below for a long time.

Chu Feng, standing quietly among the crowd, covertly appraised Elder Chu Qing holding the wine gourd.

He compared the voice he had just heard with the languid voice in his mind, and the two voices quickly merged.

Elder Chu Qing was the very same Senior Chu!

Just as Chu Feng confirmed the man's identity, his gaze suddenly met with that of the man in question.

"HAHA! Kid, what do you think? How's your master's image? Quite dashing, wouldn't you say?"

Hearing the familiar voice in his head, Chu Feng glanced again at the disheveled figure holding the wine gourd and nodded with difficulty.

"Ah... Master's appearance is, naturally, incomparably handsome!" Chu Feng replied, struggling to suppress his urge to retort, even as the black-robed elder began to speak again.

"To not waste time, the elders should begin selecting the disciples that suit them!"

While several elders were still observing the disciples present, the palace-dressed beauty was the first to speak.

"The disciples of my Lingxia Peak are all female; you few can come with me!"

The mere dozen or so female disciples in the crowd exchanged glances and hurriedly agreed.

It wasn't certain that the new disciples would be taken away by an elder. If none of the elders favored them, they would be sent to the outer sect.

They would have another chance to be selected by an elder only after their cultivation advanced to the Foundation Establishment Stage.

If they still were not chosen by any elder to join one of the immortal peaks, they would only become inner sect disciples later, after advancing to the Golden Core stage.
