Chapter 36: Chapter Thirty-Six: The Keeper’s Revelation
The Nexus Forge hummed faintly as Kael, Angelica, and Ignis entered a chamber hidden deep within its structure. The room was unlike any they had encountered before—its walls shimmered with flowing light, and the air was thick with ancient energy. At its center stood an orb, suspended in midair and surrounded by rotating rings etched with runes.
The system chimed in Kael's mind:
"Nexus Archive detected. Access requires Nexus Keeper authentication."
Kael stepped forward, the ring on his finger glowing brightly. As he touched the orb, the rotating rings slowed, and a flood of images and sounds filled the chamber. Visions of dimensions forming, collapsing, and reforming played out, each thread of light weaving into a complex tapestry.
Angelica's voice was hushed. "This is… everything."
A voice emanated from the orb, deep and resonant. "Welcome, Keeper. You have unlocked the Archive of Origins, the repository of the Nexus's history."
Kael steadied himself. "What are these anomalies? Who is behind them?"
The voice responded, its tone grave. "The Nexus is a fragment of the Primordial Weave, the original construct that connected all existence. Long ago, the Weave was shattered by a force known as the Harbinger, a being of pure entropy. The Nexus was created as a safeguard, a way to preserve balance and prevent total collapse."
Angelica's eyes widened. "The Harbinger… is that who's behind the anomalies?"
The orb dimmed slightly. "The Harbinger's essence lingers, seeking to reclaim the fragments of the Weave. The anomalies are its agents, attempting to destabilize the Nexus and draw it into its grasp."
Kael clenched his fists. "How do we stop it?"
"The Ethereal Shard holds the key," the voice said. "It is a piece of the Weave itself, capable of countering the Harbinger's influence. But its power must be fully realized through the Nexus Keeper's bond with the phoenix."
Ignis let out a soft cry, its flames flaring. Kael felt the bond between them surge, a steady pulse of warmth and light.
Angelica stepped closer to Kael. "Then we'll finish what the Nexus started. We'll stop the Harbinger."
The Archive provided one final revelation: a location deep within the Nexus where the Harbinger's essence was strongest. Known as the Abyssal Core, it was a swirling void of pure entropy, hidden at the very edge of the multiverse.
Kael turned to Angelica, his resolve firm. "That's where we go next."
She nodded, her flames steady. "Together."
