Chapter 26: Chapter Twenty-Six: Gathering the Forces
The Seekers' war room buzzed with activity. The Nexus map had expanded after Kael's integration with the fragment, revealing previously hidden dimensions. Each dimension glowed faintly, connected by delicate threads of energy that pulsated in rhythm with the Nexus.
Lira stood at the head of the table, her expression sharp. "The Shadow Lord is regrouping. If we're to stand a chance, we need allies—forces strong enough to counter his growing army."
Kael leaned forward, Ignis perched on his shoulder. "What about these hidden dimensions? If the fragment revealed them, maybe they're tied to the Nexus too."
Angelica nodded, her eyes scanning the map. "They might hold factions willing to fight. Or, at the very least, resources we can use."
Lira gestured to three glowing points on the map. "These dimensions are the most stable, but they're isolated. Reaching them will be risky."
Kael's resolve hardened. "Risky or not, we have to try. The Shadow Lord won't wait for us to be ready."
The first destination was the Verdant Expanse, a dimension teeming with vibrant life. The team arrived through a Nexus gate, stepping into a sprawling jungle of towering trees and shimmering foliage. The air was thick with magic, and the ground pulsed faintly with energy.
Angelica glanced around, her flames subdued to avoid igniting the lush surroundings. "This place is alive in every sense of the word."
Kael nodded, his light shield flickering to life as he sensed movement in the shadows. "Stay sharp. We're not alone."
They were soon confronted by the dimension's inhabitants—a race of sentient, plant-like beings with glowing green eyes. Their leader, a towering figure with vines weaving through their body, stepped forward.
"You are not of this place," the leader said, their voice resonant and melodic. "Why have you come?"
Kael stepped forward, his tone respectful. "We seek allies. The Shadow Lord threatens the Nexus, and your dimension could be next."
The leader regarded him for a long moment before responding. "The Nexus has protected us for eons. If it is truly in danger, we will aid you. But first, you must prove your intentions."
The trial set by the Verdant Expanse was a test of harmony. Kael and Angelica were tasked with navigating a maze of magical vines that responded to their emotions. Each misstep caused the vines to lash out, their thorns pulsing with energy.
Working together, Kael and Angelica relied on their bond with Ignis to guide them. The phoenix's flames illuminated the path, its warmth soothing the vines' aggression. When they emerged from the maze, the leader of the Verdant Expanse nodded approvingly.
"You have proven your worth. We will stand with you."
