Chapter 267: 267 Tang Feifei Seeking Help
Work in a hospital is like that; it can really swing your mood. The patient who didn't make it last night cast a pall over everyone. Now, with someone bringing him a commendation banner, his mood has brightened considerably.
It's not that doctors are heartless or always indifferent. The truth is, after losing more and more patients, you have to learn to numb your heart somewhat. It can affect you, but that impact absolutely cannot last long. Adjusting one's mood is almost a passive skill for a doctor.
Liu Banxia rewarded himself with a chicken drumstick for lunch. He didn't buy any for the interns; after all, it was his reward. If they wanted one, they could buy it themselves.
Liang Xiaolin and Qing Kewa were already immune to Liu Banxia's occasional childishness, but the other interns still needed time to adapt.
After lunch, they strolled back to the emergency department, only to find Zhou Shuwen in his office, signing documents while eating a boxed meal.
Liu Banxia couldn't remain calm and quickly rushed in.
"The way you handled that patient last night was well done," Zhou Shuwen said, glancing at him.
"Director, don't worry. Situations like that don't affect me anymore," Liu Banxia said quickly.
"I wasn't talking about you. Those four interns also performed well. Faced with such a scene, they were merely stunned for a moment, not scared into inaction," Zhou Shuwen chuckled.
Liu Banxia felt incredibly awkward; he had completely misread the situation.
"Director, why don't you take a day off when you have time? I was exhausted after working for ten days straight. How long can you keep going like this?" Liu Banxia asked.
"There isn't much left. At the very least, we need to finish all possible surgeries before moving to the new building. Did you need something from me?" Zhou Shuwen asked, taking a bite of rice.
"Director, please eat first. I'll tell you slowly," Liu Banxia said, then went to the water dispenser to get Zhou Shuwen a glass of water.
"Two of my patients came to see me today and presented me with two commendation banners. That reminded me of something I'd forgotten to do: popularize medical knowledge in the community to prevent the harm caused by counterfeit health products."
Zhou Shuwen nodded. "Tell me, what do you have in mind?"
"Director, could I find some time to take the interns to some older residential communities to do some outreach?" Liu Banxia asked.
"Many of these health product outlets, like 'health centers' or 'wellness pavilions,' are often storefronts in older residential areas. They usually lure in seniors with the promise of free services and then push their products."
"For seniors, the most common ailments are typically hypertension, diabetes, and rheumatic pain. Some with an actual conscience might mix in Western medicinal ingredients to lower blood sugar or blood pressure, but many are simply scams."
"My initial idea was to do community outreach. Today, I reconsidered it. Our hospital alone isn't enough; we need to collaborate with community clinics to make this work."
"Our hospital is too busy for us to go out and do this every day. We'll need to scout locations first, see where these health product shops are concentrated, and then focus our efforts there."
"Alright. Draft a detailed plan later, and then you can find time to implement it," Zhou Shuwen said.
"As long as it's not just a spur-of-the-moment idea, it's worth doing. Even if it incurs some costs, that's fine; it will also serve as good publicity for our Second Hospital."
"However, you need to be mindful of one thing: some community clinics collaborate with other hospitals. So, if you're crossing into different areas, you must coordinate properly."
"Yes, Director, don't worry. I've considered all of that. Please, finish your meal. I'll show you the plan once it's ready," Liu Banxia said.
Zhou Shuwen smiled and nodded, then paid him no further mind. He can do whatever he wants.
His management style was just like that. Want to do something? Fine. But starting strong and finishing weak is unacceptable. You must persevere and achieve results.
"What did you tell the Director?" Liang Xiaolin asked curiously.
"I've taken on a side project. Later, I need to find out which hospital's catchment area Uncle Jiang is in, and then plan the activities to campaign against counterfeit health products," Liu Banxia said.
"I'd been meaning to do this for a while, but then our emergency department suddenly got swamped. I couldn't spare the attention, and it slipped my mind."
"I knew it. When the time comes, you're definitely going to make us go," Liang Xiaolin said, feigning frustration.
"Haha, my initial thought is once a week, for half a day each time," Liu Banxia said.
"It's mostly just measuring blood pressure and handing out leaflets. The main purpose of going is publicity. But it should also be somewhat helpful for you to practice basic physical exams and auscultation, right? After all, people love free things."
"However, you'll all need to pass an assessment before you can go. Also, the focus will primarily be on internal medicine. Surgical interns will just be there to observe and learn; they can only participate actively once they're capable of handling things independently."
"But by then, you might not be able to participate," Liu Banxia said to Liang Xiaolin. "Once I'm done with the preparations, we'll probably be moving to the new building. At that point, you won't be under my supervision, so I wouldn't dare order you around."
Liang Xiaolin rolled her eyes. While other interns might be afraid of Liu Banxia, she certainly wasn't.
Just then, Liu Banxia's phone rang. He took it out and saw it was an unknown number.
"Hello," Liu Banxia said after answering.
"Hello, Dr. Liu," a somewhat familiar female voice replied.
"Hello, how can I help you?" Liu Banxia asked, a bit puzzled.
"This is Tang Feifei," the woman on the phone announced.
"Tang Feifei? Uh... Sorry, the name doesn't ring a bell," Liu Banxia said.
Tang Feifei, on the other end, was stunned. Her small fists clenched. What did he just say? He doesn't remember me?
"Hello? Is there something I can help you with?" Liu Banxia asked again.
"Yes, I need to bring a friend for a check-up. Can you see her? And can you ensure maximum confidentiality?" Tang Feifei asked.
"Confidentiality? Ah, now I remember! It's you. You're not planning to bring a whole entourage again, are you?" Liu Banxia asked, frowning.
He now truly remembered: it was the celebrity from last time who had a deviated septum.
Liu Banxia didn't usually pay much attention to such things. If she had mentioned the "silver-haired man," Liu Banxia's memory might have been jogged more easily.
"No, just the two of us. She's also in the entertainment circle and is feeling a bit unwell. Can you help ensure confidentiality?" Tang Feifei pressed.
"My answer is the same as last time: I honestly can't promise anything. There are too many departments involved. Even getting an X-ray means other people will see her," Liu Banxia said.
"Why are you like this? Couldn't you at least pretend to agree?" Tang Feifei said, exasperated.
"You already know it would be a pretense, so what's the point in me saying it? If you want to come, then come quickly. By the way, what department is it for? Internal medicine? Surgery? Obstetrics and gynecology? I'm a surgeon. I can handle a bit of internal medicine, but obstetrics and gynecology are beyond me," Liu Banxia said.
"Internal medicine, internal medicine! We'll be there in about twenty minutes," Tang Feifei said hastily.
"Alright, we'll talk when you get here," Liu Banxia said and hung up.
"Teacher Liu, who was that?" Qing Kewa asked, her large eyes blinking.
Liu Banxia glanced at her, then at Liang Xiaolin, who was pretending to be engrossed in practicing tying knots. It was obvious what they were up to.
"It's that minor celebrity from last time. She's bringing a friend over. You two can assist me later. I'm heading to the treatment room first to help with some of the waiting patients," Liu Banxia said casually.
After all, she did call me. While I can't let her cut the line, I should at least give her some consideration. There are still patients waiting in the internal medicine consultation room, so I'll have to keep using the treatment room.
Liang Xiaolin was thrilled. She had vaguely overheard something earlier, and now it was confirmed. She didn't follow many celebrities, but Tang Feifei happened to be one she knew.
Tang Feifei was a little indignant. My name should carry some weight! But to Liu Banxia? He completely forgot who I was!
If I didn't need his help this time, I'd give him a piece of my mind!
"Over here, over here!" Liang Xiaolin waved when she saw two figures, bundled up and disguised, approaching.
"Hello, where is Dr. Liu? Should we register first?" Tang Feifei asked.
Liang Xiaolin nodded. "Yes, please register first. Dr. Liu is currently seeing patients in Treatment Room Two. He'll be able to see you once he's finished with the current trauma patients."
"Ah... there are still several people ahead of us. How long will we have to wait?" the girl beside Tang Feifei asked, sounding disappointed.
"It'll be quick, about twenty minutes. Dr. Liu should be able to get through them all by then," Liang Xiaolin said with a smile.
Liang Xiaolin's words startled Tang Feifei. There are several patients. Can he really finish with all of them in twenty minutes?
Then they witnessed the "Liu Banxia speed" of the Second Hospital. Patients were indeed moving in and out with remarkable speed. With Treatment Room One also handling patients, it took less than twenty minutes for their turn to come.
Liu Banxia came out and waved them over.
"So, what's the situation today? Let me take a look at your nose, see how it's doing," Liu Banxia said to Tang Feifei once they were inside.
Without a second thought, Tang Feifei removed her glasses and mask, tilting her nose up for him. Her companion looked on, slightly astonished. What's going on here? Are they that close?
"Not bad, you've taken good care of it. But you still need to be careful and avoid bumping it. What's wrong with your friend? Looks like nasal congestion and swelling. Please take off your mask," Liu Banxia said, frowning slightly as he looked at the other girl.
The girl beside Tang Feifei hesitated for a moment but then removed her sunglasses and mask.
Both Liang Xiaolin and Qing Kewa gasped. The girl's nose was red and swollen, her cheeks were puffy, and the alar grooves at the edges of her nostrils were almost invisible.
To put it bluntly, her face was so swollen it almost resembled a pig's head.
