Chapter 260: 260 Dislocated with One Punch
The boxing gym was located just outside the fitness center, in a separate area. Four sandbags hung at the corners, a boxing ring occupied the middle, and some simple equipment was scattered around. That was all there was to it.
"Let's make it more exciting. Let's not use protective gear," Zhou Yang suggested.
"Sure, I don't care. Just wear boxing gloves. Otherwise, if my hands get injured, I won't be able to work tomorrow," Liu Banxia said casually.
"Also, you need to explain the fighting rules to me: where I can't hit and where I can. I also need to get a feel for this boxing ring, or I'll lack spatial awareness."
"Sure, let's sign the liability waiver," Zhou Yang agreed readily.
"Yang, are we really doing this?" the gym manager asked.
"Manager Qu, we're just exchanging some pointers with Mr. Liu. Just a little fun," Zhou Yang said with a smile.
"My friend, the rules are actually very simple," Manager Qu said, handing over two liability waivers. "You can't hit vital areas like the neck, the back of the head, the eyes, or the groin. Also, you cannot use your head, elbows, or knees to attack, nor can you use any joint locks. As the saying goes, 'It's a friendly match, so just make contact and then back off.'"
"Alright, I get it. It's pretty much what I expected," Liu Banxia smiled, nodded, and immediately signed the waiver.
Qiaoqiao pulled him aside. "Are you sure about this? We've already won two rounds; it's okay to forfeit this one."
"Don't worry. Though the run didn't drain much of his energy, it must have affected him to some extent," Liu Banxia responded.
"I'm quicker. As long as I dodge his hits, I'll be fine. I'm not a professional at this; if I can't handle it, I'll just run around the ring. Plus, I have boxing gloves, so it's okay even if I take a few hits."
"You still need to eat dinner tonight. Can you do that with a bruised face?" Qiaoqiao asked with a frown.
"Relax, it'll be fine. I'll leave putting on my gloves to you. Man, I'm so envious of Yanzi!" Liu Banxia said cheerily.
Qiaoqiao shot him a glare but still helped him put on the boxing gloves, tightening them securely. Then, she put a mouthguard in his mouth.
This was Liu Banxia's first time using a mouthguard, and it felt a little uncomfortable. But it would only be for a short while; he could bear it.
Once he was ready, the situation became a bit awkward.
Zhou Yang was ready before him and now stood barefoot and shirtless on the boxing ring. Liu Banxia was still in the same attire as before, clearly a rookie with no experience.
Looking at his fully equipped opponent, Liu Banxia could only turn to Qiaoqiao for help.
Qiaoqiao was also distressed; she hadn't foreseen such things happening today. Not only did she have to help this guy take off his T-shirt, but now she also had to help him with his shoes and socks.
Still, Qiaoqiao's attentiveness made everyone around quite envious. Qiaoqiao was a beauty; regardless of this Sanda match's outcome, Liu Banxia was already a winner in their eyes.
When Liu Banxia finally stood in the boxing ring, Zhou Yang had a feeling he had been set up.
Although Liu Banxia looked somewhat thin in his clothes, once he took off his T-shirt, it was evident he had considerable muscle mass. He wasn't as ripped as some, and certainly not comparable to Zhou Yang, but he definitely didn't look like someone untrained. A regular person wouldn't have that kind of muscle definition, and everyone present could see it.
Liu Banxia was oblivious to this. His plan for the day was simple: overpower Zhou Yang with speed. He bounced around the ring to warm up, getting a feel for the canvas beneath his feet.
"Three rounds?" Manager Qu, acting as the referee, walked up and asked.
"One round to determine the winner, no time limit," Zhou Yang said, looking provocatively at Liu Banxia.
Liu Banxia nodded. "That works. It'll save some time. I have a dinner engagement tonight."
This sounded rather arrogant. Even the impartial Manager Qu looked at him with a hint of pity.
Zhou Yang came here often to train; fighting was all about technique. Even though Liu Banxia seemed physically fit, he lacked fighting experience.
TWEEET! Manager Qu blew the whistle.
Zhou Yang watched Liu Banxia carefully but didn't attack rashly. Having been tricked twice already, he felt he needed to probe first.
"If you're not going to attack, then I'm coming!" Liu Banxia mumbled before striding forward.
He exuded an aura of raw amateurism. The spectators recording the match were at a loss for words. Even if he didn't know how to fight, couldn't he at least emulate Zhou Yang's stance?
At the very least, he should have protected himself with his arms. Walking forward so openly, with all his guards down, wouldn't Zhou Yang just pummel him into a meatbun?
Zhou Yang didn't indulge him and threw a direct right hook. Liu Banxia, who had been walking forward, WHOOSH, immediately retreated.
Liu Banxia was also probing. He now had a little more confidence; it seemed his speed was just about manageable, so he wouldn't need to drink an Agility Potion just yet.
What was this called? A flimsy reed trying to beat a wolf—both sides were scared.
Zhou Yang feared Liu Banxia might actually know how to fight and was just playing possum. As for Liu Banxia, his only combat experience was that brawl in the emergency department. Stepping onto the platform for a real fight, he was naturally a bit apprehensive.
He wasn't truly arrogant; his earlier actions were simply to probe and provoke. Although he knew Zhou Yang wasn't using his full strength, he believed his own speed gave him an advantage.
After the brief exchange, Zhou Yang felt somewhat reassured. Liu Banxia wasn't pretending; he truly didn't understand combat.
What more was there to say? Just go for it and take him down in one fell swoop!
His calculations were perfect, but Liu Banxia didn't give him a chance to realize them. Liu Banxia was now like a nimble monkey, dodging left and right. Not only did Zhou Yang fail to hit him, but Liu Banxia even landed a few punches on him.
There's a saying: "A gentleman can be killed, but not humiliated." Zhou Yang had already been disadvantaged in the previous two matches, and his anger was pent up. Now, with Liu Banxia right in front of him, not only had he failed to land a blow, but he had also been hit. This fanned the flames of his anger even higher.
After catching his breath for a moment, his next offensive was much fiercer. Zhou Yang, if not using his full strength, was close to it. He was willing to take a few hits if it meant landing some on Liu Banxia.
In this exchange, Liu Banxia suffered a small disadvantage, taking two punches to his arm and chest. Zhou Yang's strength was significantly greater than Liu Banxia's. Even with the boxing gloves, he now felt a hot, stinging pain.
Among the spectators were some true connoisseurs of the sport. Their perspective differed from Zhou Yang's cheering friends. They felt Zhou Yang might actually lose today because Liu Banxia had appeared remarkably composed throughout.
Liu Banxia was a genuine novice. Zhou Yang could have used his experience to wear Liu Banxia down slowly, but instead, his attacks had become chaotic as he rushed for a quick victory.
Boxing is extremely tiring. Zhou Yang's movements were now noticeably slower than before. If this went on for a few more minutes, while it might be an exaggeration to say he'd be completely at Liu Banxia's mercy, if Liu Banxia could maintain his current speed, Zhou Yang was bound to lose.
Liu Banxia wasn't having an easy time either; everything required an adaptation process. Seeing Zhou Yang's fist coming towards his head, he instinctively closed his eyes.
It was thanks to the Qi Nurturing Potion that he was holding up. Otherwise, amidst the nervous tension and such high-intensity dodging, he probably would have collapsed from exhaustion.
After punching for a while, Zhou Yang, feeling tired, changed his attack. He threw a middle whip kick at Liu Banxia. This kick had been planned for a while and was very fast.
He was fast, but Liu Banxia was faster. He retreated slightly, then brought both fists down hard on Zhou Yang's right shin.
Liu Banxia was a doctor, a surgeon to be specific. He had been the lead surgeon in many emergency and major operations, so his psychological resilience was exceptionally strong.
He was nervous at first because he didn't understand Sanda, but now he didn't know what nervousness was. As a result, his speed was fully unleashed.
Even though his own thigh was grazed by the kick, his fists landed solidly.
This was a pure amateur move, but it worked. Zhou Yang was brought to one knee. Liu Banxia seized the opportunity, raising his right fist and smashing it into Zhou Yang's jaw.
His strength was considerable. Liu Banxia didn't know if Zhou Yang's teeth were loose, but his mouthguard had definitely been knocked out, and it was stained with blood.
Zhou Yang, half-kneeling on the canvas, swayed his head dizzily.
Liu Banxia also spat out his own mouthguard. "Manager Qu, let's call it here. Who wins or loses doesn't really matter anymore. Count it as my loss."
Manager Qu nodded. If Liu Banxia had thrown another punch just then, Zhou Yang would certainly have been K.O.'d. He hadn't expected Liu Banxia's punches to be so powerful; ordinary amateurs wouldn't have this kind of power.
Barely able to stand, Zhou Yang let out a string of muffled, pained sounds.
Liu Banxia chuckled. He really hadn't expected his punch to dislocate Zhou Yang's jaw.
"Don't move him yet. I'll reset his jaw; it's just dislocated," Liu Banxia said with a smile.
"You know how to reset it? No need to go to the hospital?" Manager Qu asked.
Liu Banxia smiled and nodded. "I'm a doctor. My bone-setting skills are quite good. Help me take off these gloves, please."
Manager Qu didn't hesitate and quickly helped Liu Banxia remove his gloves.
After removing his gloves, Liu Banxia flexed his fingers, walked over to Zhou Yang, grabbed his jaw, gently rocked it twice, then with a sudden upward thrust, successfully reduced the dislocation.
DING! Mandibular dislocation successfully reduced.
Obtained 100 EXP, +200 Bone-setting Skill Proficiency.
This treatment was rated: Perfect. Obtained an additional 100 EXP, +300 Bone-setting Skill Proficiency, +5 Glory Points.
Liu Banxia was momentarily stunned. It seemed low-level skills really did give a lot of experience during treatment. Such a simple mandibular dislocation had actually awarded 200 skill proficiency points, and even a Perfect rating!
