The Enhanced Doctor

Chapter 104: What other abilities does 104 Shoutian have?

Kidney stones are like toothaches. You might feel fine most of the time, but when the pain hits, it can be absolutely unbearable.

When Qiu Mingyuan first arrived, he was writhing in pain. Now that the stones had been crushed and his urinary tract was no longer blocked, everything was flowing smoothly. He was back to being an energetic young man.

However, this energetic young man became flustered again when he returned to the Emergency Department and heard that Dr. Liu had also scheduled his father for an MRI.

"Don't worry, it's just a routine checkup. Even if there is a clogged blood vessel, it's likely a minor one. Go to the radiology department and check; it should be about your turn now," Liu Banxia said with a smile.

"Oh, Yue, what are you doing here?" Just then, Xu Dan walked out of the treatment room.

"Sis, I was wondering where you were! Our classmate here has kidney stones, so I came along with him," the girl who had initially spoken when she arrived with Qiu Mingyuan interjected.

"TSK TSK, so you're relatives? Dandan, is she your cousin?" Liu Banxia asked curiously.

"Xiao Yue, she's my aunt's daughter," Xu Dan replied casually.

She said it casually, but Liu Banxia frowned. "You little rascal, you've got some nerve, leading me on like that."

"Uh... what's wrong?" Xu Dan asked, puzzled.

"What's wrong? I finally know who your uncle is," Liu Banxia stated helplessly.

"HA... HA HA HA... Just pretend you didn't hear anything. Yue, let's have lunch at the hospital today. The cafeteria's chicken drumsticks are delicious." Xu Dan gave a nervous laugh and pulled Xiao Yue aside.

There were two physicians surnamed Xiao in Neurosurgery: Director Xiao Zhaoqiu and another attending physician. The connection became clear considering Xu Dan had directly contacted Xiao Zhaoqiu about a baby previously. This young woman really knew how to hide things. It seemed anyone in the hospital with some background couldn't be underestimated.

When lunchtime arrived, Liu Banxia didn't hold back. Xu Hui had insisted on treating him, so Liu Banxia naturally complied.

Their relationship was quite good now; one genuinely wanted to treat, and the other saw no reason to refuse. So, they had a wonderful meal together that noon.

However, Liu Banxia's current appetite startled Xu Hui. Could Chief Residents really eat this much? It was simply incredible.

Upon returning to the emergency room, he saw the Qiu father and son waiting there.

"Dr. Liu, the scans are out. I asked the doctor in radiology, and he said three capillaries are blocked. What should we do? Will he need surgery?" Qiu Huaili asked anxiously.

"Please don't worry, it shouldn't be serious. I'll call a neurologist for a consultation right away. They understand this better than I do," Liu Banxia reassured him with a smile.

He didn't dare to overconfidently claim he could handle everything; his professional knowledge in this area wasn't up to par, so he couldn't give the patient the correct advice.

The attending neurologist on duty from Internal Medicine today was Zhang Ping. After examining the scans, he also stated there was no significant problem and that taking aspirin would suffice. However, since Qiu Huaili had hypertension, he would need to be more careful in the future.

These two cases today, though seemingly simple, were the kind often easily overlooked by admitting doctors.

Usually, when doctors diagnosed kidney stones, they would prescribe stone-expelling medication for mild cases or perform extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy for severe ones. If the stone's location was more complex, they would proceed directly to surgery.

For the first two treatment methods, the consultation would typically be considered complete. If Liu Banxia's hands hadn't been so sensitive, he wouldn't have been able to detect Qiu Mingyuan's gouty tophus.

Qiu Huaili's case could also have easily been missed. After all, it came up during a casual chat, and not all doctors would focus their full attention on someone in that situation. But Liu Banxia had noticed his brief eye deviation and the subsequent rubbing of his eyes.

Often, paying just that little bit more attention allows you to notice something abnormal about a person.

It's the attention to detail that reveals true professionalism.

Even in the Emergency Department, most patients were trauma cases or individuals with sudden minor symptoms. It wasn't as if earth-shattering cases lined up every day.

An intracerebral capillary obstruction isn't a major illness, but if ignored, it could lead to a major vessel obstruction or a large-area obstruction, which would then be dangerous.

Shi Lei was very satisfied and pleased with Liu Banxia's performance today. At the very least, not all doctors possessed the meticulousness Liu Banxia had displayed.

It might be manageable for one or two patients, but how many did the Emergency Department see daily? Not everyone could maintain constant, focused attention.

He had mentored many resident doctors, and so far, Liu Banxia was the most outstanding. His only flaw was his occasional excessive playfulness, which could be quite exasperating.

Usually, when not attending to patients, Liu Banxia would read or examine the model skeleton. But today, he wasn't in the mood; he felt somewhat restless.

Just as he was lost in thought, Qiu Mingyuan and his small group returned.

"Finished with the gout consultation?" Liu Banxia asked with a smile.

"They prescribed some medication and said it can be managed with that," Qiu Mingyuan said cheerfully.

"That's good. Don't forget to jump around regularly. Playing basketball is fine, but make sure to do some general jumping exercises too," Liu Banxia nodded.

"Dr. Liu, could we take a photo with you?" Qiu Mingyuan asked.

"What? A photo with me? Are you sure?" Liu Banxia was a bit bewildered.

"Yes! You're so amazing, please take a photo with us," Qiu Mingyuan insisted.

Liu Banxia was amused. "Alright, I'll humor you this once. You have a beautifying filter, right? Don't make me look too old."

The youngsters were overjoyed when Liu Banxia agreed, though Xiao Yue seemed a bit less enthusiastic.

"SIGH... Watching them really makes me feel old," Liu Banxia remarked after they had left.

"Alright, you've been outstanding enough today. Go on, continue with the dressing changes. I'll rest here for a bit," Shi Lei said, walking over.

"Boss, you must rest well so you're ready for your shift tomorrow." Instead of heading to the treatment room, Liu Banxia went behind Shi Lei and started massaging his shoulders.

At first, Shi Lei paid little attention, thinking Liu Banxia was just fooling around again. But after a few moments of the massage, he felt his entire shoulder area become wonderfully sore and relaxed; it was incredibly comfortable.

"Have you actually mastered Tuina massage?" Shi Lei asked in surprise.

"I know a thing or two. It's basically about understanding muscle distribution. Relax the muscles, and the person will feel comfortable," Liu Banxia said with a grin.

Liu Banxia didn't linger for long before dashing off to the treatment room; his daily tasks still awaited.

Shi Lei rubbed his chin, feeling somewhat perplexed.

I've been mentoring Liu Banxia for almost eight months now. Why hadn't this kid shown his capabilities before? Just how much skill was he actually hiding?

Liu Banxia was telling the truth; he had indeed just recently figured out these massage techniques. But Shi Lei found it hard to believe. Mastered them just by studying for a few days? Impossible! He must have known these techniques all along; it had to be from his existing repertoire.

And so, he grew even more curious. Just how much more was this kid hiding? What other abilities did he possess?
