The Earth After Rebirth

Chapter 416: Into the Train

That night nobody could sleep. They instead spent the entire night devising all sorts of plans and creating continence plans in case the ones they chose didn't work.

Without giving away the location, Wilfred was able to draw up the mine and every possible entry around there. They studied it like it was an exam final, Wilfred had told them the map would be destroyed and nobody could have a copy, so they were burning the copies into their minds.

"Are you guys sure you want to do this? I mean sure Jon Scott has given us a lot of advantage, but can you two even defend yourselves?" Sekani asked, understanding that if they couldn't do anything by themselves they would only serve as burdens to them.

"I-i can fight..." Sekani wasn't asking him at all but Nikolai answered nervously.

"Me too, I can do it too." James found his voice and finally became part of this little team.

Grey laughed heartily, "I may be an old man to you, son of Eldric, but these old bones can still take a beating."

If it was before, Sekani would've been angry to be called Eldric's son but he felt something he'd never felt before, he felt pride in being his son. It was refreshing.

"Can those old bones take bullets?" Sekani mocked because the guards up there were loaded with guns, so it would be idiotic for them to just drop the guns and started fighting with fists.

Grey's laugh turned into a frown and then into a smirk.

"Well, we have these vests sent by that fella for bullets don't we?"

Sekani nodded briefly he didn't mean to be negative but he wanted to make sure they wouldn't need to hold their hands while fighting heavily armed guards.

"You don't have anything protecting your head, so make sure you can move those old bones." He advised the old Dean.

"You don't need to be worried about me, I can take care of myself."

"Yeah I can too," Jesús said, "you're worried about us but what about you? You look like a really big softie you know?"

Sekani's lips cracked into a thin smile, "you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. I'll be going to bed now, I know we have two hours until we leave..." He left the room, he wasn't really going to sleep, he just wanted some time alone.

Nobody said anything, they understood the need to be all alone, after all, some of them may not be coming back alive. That thought alone would make anyone despair.

"Let's get ready."

There were many showers in the building complex and they used them, most of them used cold water to wake themselves up, not from sleep or anything, but to the reality of their situation.

Nikolai had a simple tracksuit on with sneakers, he preferred being comfortable. Underneath there was the laser gun proof vest Jon Scott had given them.

Wilfred noticed that most of the guards guns were old guns, and everyone there was confident that they could dodge those kinds of bullets, laser guns were a little different.

They were lasered guns as the name suggested but they were also faster and much better. They were yet to be mass produced in Sanctauri, they simply needed more resources including what they were mining there.

Most of the produced guns were obviously given to police officers, not a single normal citizen had a gun, well a laser gun so to speak. But the old guns were common.

It was already a lot that the guards at the slave mine had a laser gun each, with how rare these were. But thanks to Jon Scott, they would be able to defend against any gun now, unless the laser gun would be aimed at the head, in which case it would be too late.

Once the gun was on the person, it was capable of paralysing them until the laser bullet reached them. That's why dodging them was next to impossible.

"You look really weird..." Nikolai said when Wilfred walked into the room.

Nobody had ever seen Wilfred out of his suits. He also felt unnaturally weaker in anything else, he took a single look at the army clothes he had on and went back into the room. He couldn't do it, he came out minutes later looking like he always did.

"That's truly better."

"Will you even be able to fi—" James was just about to ask when Sekani came into the room.

He was strangely also wearing a suit, tie and everything. They all had confused looks, all except his butler. Wilfred knew he would wear this, it was him who prepared it after all.

"Uhm, you know where we're going right?" Jesús asked him.

"Of course. Let's go." He said a smile plastered on his face, it was still dark outside as they left the premises, Raul was waiting with a bus outside.

Sekani only wore this suit to throw off the guards. Even a single second was important enough to turn the tides in the battlefield. Seeing someone wearing a suit, they would no doubt think twice about shooting.

But he also needed some of the people he was going with to wear casual clothing, so even if they communicate with each other through a radio, the clothing wouldn't be simply "suits" it would be a variety.

James and Nikolai were wearing tracksuits, Grey and Jesús were wearing combat army clothes, Sekani and Wilfred were wearing suits. It wasn't planned, it just happened. And so Sekani used it to his advantage.

They didn't poke him further for answers.

"Will you two be able to fight in those?" James couldn't help himself. The last time he fought in a suit his body was sore for a week.

"Of course." Sekani answered him simply, it didn't matter what he wore, he was trained well. Whether he was naked, wearing strings, tied up, he could fight. There was nothing Eldric didn't prepare him for.

They arrived shortly at the station.

"Take care of them while we're gone, alright?" Sekani told Raul.

"Of course sir, there's no greater pleasure."

Jesús spoke to the people there and it didn't take long before he waved them into the train. Sekani walked in and straight into the control room.

"Let's go then, shall we."
