The Dungeon's Worst Little Mistake

B2. Chapter 9.4- Friendship is Magic

Susan doesn't know what to do with herself.

Her current situation, her feelings, her thoughts, what she should do now. It's all a mess. One giant mess!

Right now, right before her eyes. So close that she is literally being held by her… is a little Elaine.

She looks like she could easily be anywhere from eight to ten years old, and she is such a small and delicate looking thing. Elaine had always been short, never growing any taller than five feet at the most. But Susan can remember back when she had first met a fifteen-year-old Elaine, malnourished after having ran away from the church and barely knowing how to survive without her parent's care. She had come to the Adventurers Guild as a last resort, and Susan had taken pity on the rail thin kid at the time.

And now… looking down at the little girl cuddled up against her. Susan can only see Elaine.

She knows it is her. Her very soul is screaming that this is her sister, laying right before her. She looks exactly the same, just much younger and with a healthy layer of baby fat on her face that gives her very squeezable looking cheeks. Those sapphire-blue eyes that she had seen. Those were undoubtedly Elaine's. And her smell! With Susan's nose practically buried in the little girl's golden-blonde hair as she cries, she can only smell the familiar sent of her sister!

But more than that…

She had called her, Sissy.

Only once. Only ever once had Elaine done that in the past.

It was on a night when the poor girl had been feeling especially homesick and questioning her life choices. She had had a rough day, spending hours on a messy beginner's quest, puking after gutting and skinning a deer for the first time, and having to walk for hours in the wood while hauling a heavy bag on her thin back. Adventurer life can be hard on someone who hasn't built up their body, and by the end of the day, she was exhausted and crying.

Susan, not knowing what to do with the girl, had ended up giving her a hug. A very awkward one. Susan wasn't used to consoling people back then.

She had helped the girl stop crying, helped clean up her mess, and listened to her story. By the time it was late into the night, Elaine had been too exhausted to return to her cheap inn on the other side of the city, and the streets were hardly safe enough to be sending her on her way.

Susan invited her to stay for the night and they shared her bed.

In a moment of weakness and loneliness, Elaine had curled up against Susan and given her a hug under the sheets, her face buried in Susan's chest much like it is now…

Through muffled words, a shocked Susan had heard a single word said in the dead of night. The word practically stabbing through her chest and piercing her heart.

"Sissy."

Something inside of Susan died that night and was replaced with something new and beautiful. With a single word, the aspiring swordswoman, with a dream of heroism and fame, had found something new. She had found a sister.

Susan had always hoped after that, that Elaine would call her Sissy again, but she was clearly embarrassed by having done that the next day and ever since. After all, calling an older woman that you aren't related to and hardly know, Sissy, is a little much. But they became close. They became friends. And on rare occasions, Susan would manage to get Elaine to call her sister, much to her joy.

But never, Sissy. Elaine was far too embarrassed to ever call her that again. After all, she isn't a little girl anymore! She is an adventurer!

And now, right here in front of her. Little Elaine had used that word again…

She's alive. Susan wishes that she could hold her, but she is still bound by too many ropes and hardly able to move a muscle.

The only thing she can do is cry with her face buried in this girl's golden hair. The Goddess had heard her prayer and returned her sister to her!

But…

That's the thing. She came back. But the how is still important.

All Susan has to do is look down and she will see something horrible. Past the beautiful little angel that is cuddled up against her, is the gaping maw of a monster.

Teeth like daggers, a massive grey tongue, and a pit of grey flesh coated in a layer of saliva is the insides of the chest. The Mimic that had eaten her sister.

Susan doesn't know how it is possible, but they had somehow, fused? Become one? Had the Goddess pulled Elaine back out from its stomach and she got stuck half-way?

But how is she a child now? Has the Mimic become Elaine, or has Elaine taken over? Susan doesn't know. None of this makes any sense to her, and quite frankly. Nothing has made any sense ever since entering this Goddess damned Dungeon.

But. None of that is important!

Susan forces herself to bring her emotions back under control, her tears still hot on her face. She needs to get out of here, and she needs to bring Elaine with her!

She's a monster now? Who gives a shit! They can figure this all out after they get away safely. If they have to, Susan will take her and go to live in the mountains, far away from humanity if they must!

She just needs to get out of here first…

The simplest way would be to get Elaine to untie her, of course. Then Susan just needs to get her sword…

Where is her sword at anyways? No, wait, Bug most likely took it, the little bitch. She will just have to steal one from one of the skeletons guarding her. At least three of them are holding weapons, that she can see, and two of them are swords.

Her body is still a mess of bruises and injuries, but if she pushes herself… Yes, she can do this. Going to have to assume that Elaine can't use her magic anymore though. She doesn't have the Field of a mage around her anymore, but that was probably lost as a result of coming back to life in the body of a monster. Susan will make do.

Just need to wake up Elaine first.

"Elaine, wake up. Come on, please! I need you to untie me, come on, come on, come on and wake up already!"

Susan tries shaking and jostling around, getting louder to try and wake the girl. This gets the skeleton's attention, and they all turn to look at her, but thankfully don't move to do anything yet.

The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.

"Elaine, please! Wake up!"

All her shaking manages to do is to shift the little girl's sleeping head to the side, revealing a big dumb smile and drool spilling from her lips.

"Hehe~ Sissyy, wai for meh… Mm'I wanna ea tha one~ Heahe…"

Parting from her pillow that is Susan's chest, she gets this cute, angry look on her sleeping face and then tightens her hug even further, pulling herself in tighter. When her head returns to its spot, she goes back to smiling.

"Oh, that is just so fucking precious. So cute- Wait, ah! Not important right now! Elaine, pleaeaease wake up~! Please!!!"

She doesn't.

Susan just droops her head in defeat, forced to remember another detail about younger Elaine that only serves to further cement her belief that this is the real one.

Elaine, back when she just started off as an adventurer, was a very, very, deep sleeper. A dragon could be burning down the city around her and she would probably sleep right through the entire thing! It took a while to train her to be able to wake up at a moment's notice, which is a skill that is necessary in their line of work. A skill, which had apparently been lost and long forgotten in Elaine's resurrection…

"Just fucking great… What do I do now?"

Susan looks around, and then finally down at the body of the Mimic itself. She obviously prefers to not look at Eleane's monster half, it isn't as pleasant of a thing to look at… But those teeth…

Inching forward, wiggling as much as she can, Susan tries to get her body closer to those big sharp teeth. Luckily for her, Elaine is more than happy to cuddle even closer and tightens her grip, dragging her lower half closer as well.

"Oof, she's got a strong grip. How are these little arms so strong?" Susan grunts as the little girl's arm actually start to hurt her some.

But regardless, she did it. She managed to get close to those teeth. Now she just needs to-

The moment her body touches the tooth, it starts to retract into the jaw of the Mimic's mouth, its surface transforming as grey flesh turns back into just a regular treasure chest. In a matter of moments, all the teeth are gone, and Susan is left with nothing but a little girl that is somehow growing out of a box…

Had Elaine subconsciously gotten rid of the teeth to keep from accidentally harming Susan? Well, isn't that just precious. How kind. Truly, she is an angel!

But, now…

No way to cut herself free… and Elaine won't wake up…

"Well, shit! What now?"

Looking around, she tries to find anything. Maybe a sharp rock laying on the floor? Nope, Bug just had the minions sweep the floor yesterday. She likes to keep her home nice and clean.

With nothing else to try, Susan does a final hail marry. The only thing she can think of!

"Billy, could you please untie me?"

The cute little skeleton turns and gives her a look, and then, it crosses its arms in front of its chest to make an X shape.

Nope.

"Well, was worth a try… Can I have some water?"

That, the skeleton is more than willing to do. It fetches her a cup and then helps her drink before stepping away to a safe distance.

She wanted to see if she could maybe grab him or something, steal a bone and… anngh! It wouldn't work anyways! The moment she'd try to get the ropes lose; the other skeletons would have just jumped on her…

Susan just looks down at the little girl, sleeping happily against her big sister. Her, Sissy… and sighs.

I got her back… Nothing else matters. Nothing.

Another sigh, this one much more tired than the last. And with a kiss on little Elaine's forehead, Susan finally allows herself to give up.

"Fuck it! You win! Kill me, turn me into a zombie or a Ghoul, or whatever! Just as long as I get to stay with Elaine… with my sister… that's all that matters. W-we can be monsters together for all I care."

She gives her another kiss on the forehead and then buries her nose in that golden hair. The scent brings back so many memories, and Susan can't help but to start crying again as she cuddles against her little sister's warm, living, breathing body.

Nothing else matters. Not even her own humanity.

It is some time later that Susan would find herself being woken up by a presence, a familiar Field of Death lightly poking at her soul. Even restrained to being near her body, Bug's presence is impossible to mistake.

Opening her eyes, Susan looks up to find the little Necromancer staring down at her, a look of shock and repulsion and other things mixing to leave her with a pale face as she looks down at Susan like she is an insect discovered under the furniture.

"What?" Susan asks.

"Wha-what do I do in this situation? Do I call someone? Are there some authorities I can contact. Guards, police?"

"What are you going on about?"

"Susan, I-I didn't think that you were into this sort of… thing? I misjudged you. I thought you were a good person!"

"Seriously, what the hell are you going on about? If you are going to keep being stupid, I'm going to go back to sleep."

Bug just points down at the little figure lying beside Susan.

She looks down.

"Yeah, what?"

"Why are you sleeping with a naked child? Pedo? Pervert? Are you a degenerate? Do you like them small!? Are you planning to target me next!?"

Susan just looks down at Elaine again, and yes, the little girl is as naked as the day she was born… or technically reborn? Which shouldn't be too surprising. If anything, it would be weirder if she somehow managed to come back with clothes on.

She honestly doesn't see what the issue is here. It's not like there is anything to see. She is literally a child and doesn't even seem to have hit puberty yet. In fact, she is so flat that the idea of breasts hasn't even become a thing on her yet. She might as well be a boy for all it matters.

But, more than this, there is one big issue.

"I am clearly tied up here. How could I have possible of done anything? Are you an idiot?"

Bug goes from being shocked to suddenly laughing.

"Haha, naw. I'm just messing with you. I read a scene like this in my book, and I just had to play along. Ended with the guy getting yelled at and stuff getting thrown at his head. Wasn't his fault though, the little girl climbed in his bed while he was sleeping."

"You read some weird books…"

"Yup! But they're entertaining, and that is all that matters." Bug says with a big smile and a shrug.

"Now then… Seriously, why is there a child growing out of my Mimmie, and why is she in your bed?"

"This is not Your Mimmie. This is my, Elaine. She's, my sister! She came back from the dead…"

"Bullshit."

"I don't want to hear that from you, the Necromancer, calling it bullshit. It happened, she's back, and she's mine."

"No, Mimmie is my pet. Not your sister. You are clearly confused and delusional. Now, I just need to figure out why this happened… I should really buy a book on Mimics already; these creatures are just confusing."

"I know she is my sister, because she called me, Sissy!"

"What!?" Bug asks, looking totally shocked!

"Hah! See, mine!"

"Wha- No! It doesn't work like that! Mimmie was mine first!"

"But Elaine was my sister longer! So, mine!"

"I think you are forgetting who the prisoner is here! And Mimmie is my pet. I raised it from a little brick! You can't just-"

As the two of them are bickering, the girl wakes up and yawns. It takes a bit of effort, but with her new arms and the use of her lower half's big grey tongue, she is able to right herself back onto the bottom of her shell.

The two stop arguing, both watching the girl as she rubs the sleep out of her eyes and yawns. It is easily the cutest thing either of them has ever witnessed and they both nearly lose their breath.

Then, looking around, the sleepy child spots Bug and smiles. With both arms up in the air she cries out, "Mommy!"

Bug just looks down at this adorable creature. It's, no, her arms outstretched for a hug. The word Mommy bouncing around in Bug's skull like a flaming Ping-Pong ball and searing itself into her memories for as long as she may live.

Her half-dead heart skips a beat, and she has to put a hand to her chest. Is she about to have a heart attack or something!?

What is this? Is this… is this love?

"She… she called me, Mommy?"

"Mommy?" The little girl asks with a slight tilt of her adorable little head. A bit of confusion filling her gorgeous blue eyes as she sees Bug start to cry a little.

"She called me… Yes! Yes, I'm your Mommy! Oh, sweet baby angel, I love you!"

Bug can't stop herself as she moves forward and wraps up the little girl in a big hug, much to Susan's shock as she is forced to watch from the background.

"I'm a mommy!"

"Mommy, hungry."

"Mhmh, that's ok. Mommy brought back lots of food. Mommy will get breakfast cooking in just a moment, so be a good girl and-"

*Crunch!*

Bug pulls back a bit and looks down at the child in her arms. The adorable little shit is currently munching on one of Bug's hands, the entire fist somehow being in her little mouth despite the fact that it clearly shouldn't fit... When Bug pulls her arm back, her wrist comes away as a bloody stump. A very familiar sight…

"Yup… still Mimmie…"

"No, Elaine, spit that out! You shouldn't eat hands."

"Buh Sisshy, is yuhmmhe…"

"Ignore her sweetheart, you enjoy your hand. Mommy is going to get breakfast started~ Told you she was mine! Hahahaha, I'm a mommy now! Best. Day. Ever!"

"Yay, breakfast!"

"Oh, Goddess. What the fuck is my life?"

All Susan can do is collapse back into her bed as Bug skips off to start prepping breakfast, humming the entire way with her tail wagging behind her.
