Chapter 272: A Great Foe Gone
"Fuck this, I'm not wasting anymore time." I yelled louder than I intended, I suppose I couldn't subside how I truly felt. My negligence had made this match longer than it ought to be, I should have ended things when the opportunity presented itself, and though that opportunity itself was gone, things would only get worse if I didn't act now, and so, I took upon myself to do just so.
I zoomed, my trusty shield still encompassing me like a capsule, protecting me from the multitudes of energy attacks Suphas spammed.
ZTT ZTTT ZTT!
The blasts tore through the air, creating a whistling and vibrating sound as they passed by, rending and burning the landscape even further. I cared not for the landscape, I cared about leaving here and ending things.
When I saw that I got close enough, about fifteen meters away from it, I undid <Haven> at a miniscule period, it was so short that it might seem like I didn't undo it at all, and in that tiny timeframe, I swung my blades, and the dark flames held on them took shape and zoomed at my intended target: the gut of the ethereal strange being.
There was a boom, and I want to say that I was surprised by this, but frankly, I wasn't. The creature stopped thrusting one of its tridents, and instead used that to stop the fiery blades I sent its way.
Seeing that I was close by, and that the energy attacks weren't phasing my energy shield, it employed another move, and that was stretching forward to hit me with its two tridents.
I was caught off guard, the tridents struck my <Haven>, and for the first time, ever since modifying it, did my haven crack, and I was thrown backwards.
"Oh God…" I watched the shards spill out as the piercing force spread.
I was able to then stop and I found my footing, but my breathing was hurried from the adrenaline and fear. I could have been a goner there.
'I don't want to die.' I thought. My eyes wide-eyed much more than they had ever been.
Visionary picked a linear future, for seconds forward. Suphas stepping forward, thrusting its two tridents, my haven stained by my blood, my demise as I am squashed by the force of the tridents.
That was not my future, not if I could help it. I already knew of how it would come, where it would come from and how it would attack, what else did I need to fear? Nothing. And so I persevered, and moved.
In the present, I could see Suphas moving, while I was still transfixed in the spot.
My mind and body sprung to action, undoing <Haven>. It may seem rather foolish to undo my ultimate defense card at that moment but I knew there and then, that I had to go on the offense, and besides, what better defense was there other than offense? None.
I narrowly escaped the thrust of the tridents, and I came atop one. I didn't fly nor levitate, I simply stood on it and ran down the weapon. It was surreal, it was reckless.
A naked man holding two blades, yelling and running on a Trident seems like a scene from a largely imaginative fantasy movie, but here I was, flailing my arms holding two blades that seemed more like torches than blades in that instance.
"Yahhh!"
I could see that Suphas was a little shaken by this strange and sudden move of mine, I would be surprised too if I wasn't the one doing the act, but the creature had an answer of its own.
Linear red beams burst forth from its eyes to strike me and end me like the bug I was in the eyes of this monster. However, I was in peak condition save for my lack of clothing, I easily reacted on time, diverting the blasts away with swings from my blades. I did more, running and sending blades of the dark flames to the creature's chest. It stopped them with more laser beam attacks, and I got to my destination.
Once I got to the end of the trident, I jumped. My eyes fixed on the white pulsing flesh which was its chest. I fell and dug in my blades. They easily sunk in, and without hesitation, I sent a rush of the dark flames into it.
Yes, I was going to roast this unnatural mess alive, and put it to its final rest once and for all. Experience more on empire
It screamed, wailed. Its trident disappeared, and it struck its hands at me, wanting to hit me and throw me off its body, and maybe somehow quench the flames I had set on it. I know the last part was impossible for it, but it was welcome to try.
I disappeared from the spot my flames burned and I watched it strike that with its many hands, trying to quench or at least stop the flames from spreading.
It was to no avail. The hot hungry flames I had created burned through anything and everything.
And I smirked, watching the flames take root within it. I didn't need to use dragon eyes to see the flames spreading and eating through it. The white and transparent body contrasting against the dark of the flames made the sight quite vivid.
From just about the length of my arms, the dark flames had grown and burned, that almost the entirety of its chest swole with it. Its eyes shot open as if they would fall off the sockets at any given moment, and then it came. The shrinkage.
It fell. There was no boom, no quake, just a little ruffle. And from above, I watched it wheeze and shrink, its eyes tearing.
It too was going to join the others that had gone.
The dark flames crept across every part of it being, and the great foe I knew as Suphas was gone, the powerful boss of the first floor.
