Chapter 5: 4 | MnM
Kaiza was completely absorbed in the game, his mind solely focused on every move in Dominion. The sounds of the café faded into the background as he honed his strategy, fingers gliding across the keyboard. The thrill of each calculated move felt like it had its own rhythm, and Kaiza was riding it, determined to improve with every play. It had been hours since he'd entered MnM Café, and time seemed irrelevant as he immersed himself further in the world of Dominion.
His heart raced as he executed another move, not realizing just how deep he'd gone into the game. He wasn't aware of anything around him—until a voice cut through his concentration, startling him to the core.
Pulse: Yo! Kaiza! What brings you here?
Kaiza jumped, his heart leaping in his chest. His fingers slipped on the keys, and he nearly knocked over his drink. Spinning in his chair, he saw Pulse standing there, grinning.
Kaiza: Pulse!? What are you doing here?
Pulse: Thought I'd drop by. Didn't expect to find you so locked in.
Kaiza, still trying to shake off the shock. How had he not noticed Pulse walking in?
Pulse was one of the main players at MnM Café—a familiar face who had earned his reputation as one of the top contenders. Not just any player, Pulse was actually the second strongest player at the café, standing right below the reigning champion. He could hold his own in Dominion like few others, and his sudden appearance here made Kaiza feel like he'd just been caught in the act.
Kaiza: I was so focused... didn't even hear you coming.
Pulse chuckled, crossing his arms and glancing at the screen.
Pulse: Well, I can tell. Didn't think you'd be this into Dominion, though. You're already looking pretty serious about it.
Kaiza: I've been playing for a bit now. Just trying to get better.
Pulse: Seems like you're getting pretty good already. Who would've guessed?
Kaiza rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, a small flush creeping up his neck.
Kaiza: Still a lot to learn.
Pulse raised an eyebrow, clearly impressed. He seemed to take a moment to assess Kaiza's screen before speaking again.
Pulse: So, how'd you find MnM anyway? Didn't think you were into places like this.
Kaiza glanced around the café, realizing that there was something special about the atmosphere here—something he hadn't fully appreciated before.
Kaiza: I was just looking for a spot to play. Didn't expect it to be so close to where I live.
Pulse grinned, clearly enjoying the fact that Kaiza had stumbled upon this local gaming haven.
Pulse: Well, now that you're here, you might as well check out the real action.
Kaiza blinked, his curiosity piqued.
Kaiza: What do you mean? Pros? Like, people who really know what they're doing?
Pulse: You bet. You might even know a few of them.
Before Kaiza could ask more questions, another voice interrupted them.
Yuki: Who's the new kid?
Kaiza turned around to see Yuki standing there, her arms crossed and a sharp, assessing look in her eyes. Kaiza instinctively straightened up—Yuki was known for her tactical mind and fierce competitive edge in Dominion.
Pulse: This is Kaiza. He's a friend of my younger brother. Kaiza, meet Yuki.
Kaiza: Uh… nice to meet you, Yuki. I'm still pretty new to all this. Just trying to catch up.
Yuki gave him a cool, almost amused smile.
Yuki: Well good luck with that.
The energy around them shifted as Kaiza took a glance around the café. People were gathering in small groups, prepping for something. The low hum of conversation and the occasional clink of cups told Kaiza that something was about to happen. He felt the buzz of excitement in the air and couldn't help but be drawn in.
Pulse: What's going on here? This place is buzzing.
A staff member, overhearing their conversation, answered.
Staff: There's a match starting soon. V's group is up against MM's team.
Pulse's eyes widened slightly.
Pulse: Wait, what? There's a match going on?
Yuki: What, you didn't know? You're slipping, Pulse.
Pulse: My bad. I guess I've been distracted with other things. But hey, now that we're here, let's show them who's the best.
Yuki: You'd better show up, or we'll leave you behind.
Kaiza's eyes widened as he realized what was going on. This wasn't just some casual hangout—this was a serious match between two of the best teams in the local Dominion scene. The energy in the room had shifted, and Kaiza could practically feel the anticipation building.
The staff began moving quickly, getting everything in place for the match. Kaiza watched the players as they prepared. "V's," a team Kaiza didn't recognize, were getting set up on one side of the arena, while "MM's"—the team led by Yuki and Pulse—was on the other. The crowd around them was starting to gather, whispers and murmurs spreading like wildfire.
Pulse: You're in for a real show, Kaiza. This match is going to be intense.
Kaiza: I can't wait to see it. This is huge, right?
Pulse: You have no idea. Trust me, it won't be easy for anyone.
As the countdown began, the excitement around Kaiza grew, and his heart raced in anticipation. This wasn't just another friendly game—it was an event, a battle between two of the top teams. The players lined up, and Kaiza's mind couldn't help but race as he wondered what would happen next.
The staff made one final announcement.
Staff: The match between V's and MM's is about to start. Please get ready!
Pulse: Here we go.
Kaiza: This is it.
The crowd erupted into cheers, and Kaiza felt a surge of adrenaline. The match had begun.
