Chapter 30: Twenty-Ninth Chapter: Sick (4)
"Will you do it or do I have to drag your ass to the clinic?"
Professor Bridgett lifted her brows arrogantly, taunting Kris with her smug face on.
And then, contrary to her expected stubborn act, Kris silently stepped back and turned around.
"...?"
Somewhat unexpected and disappointing, Professor Bridgett's sight followed Kris' departing back with a shrug, thinking how boring it was—
But that's when Kris stopped in the middle of the hallway and then positioned herself in a posture as if she was about to …
As if she was about to flip?!
Thud, Thud, Thud!
Giving herself a starting run-up, Alex firmly stomped the ground and swung her arms with her body leaping like a koi in a pond!
Swoosh! Swish! Bang!
Twisting and spinning in the air with ease and fluidity, Alex made it seem so easy that you would think it was something doable for any average joe onlookers.
But what she did was a complete three-consecutive flips!
She went over and beyond!
"F*cking hell!"
"Wha—"
"Sheesh!"
"Wowowowow!"
The other students, all clustered in front of the window at light speed, exclaimed one by one.
Jaws dropped and surprised expressions colored the faces of the students as they pushed against each other to find a better view.
"What happened?"
"???"
Some students further at the back, failing to witness a relatively entertaining scene, showed confusion and curiosity at the clamor around the window.
"Haaa … Haaa …"
In the hallway, Alex, standing coolly and silently after doing such an absurd thing, looked back towards Professor Bridgett, she uttered while trying to regulate her breath.
"Haa … Is this enough … Professor?"
Whoosh!
With her piercing sharp eyes staring directly at Professor Bridgett, an inexplicable gust of air hit Professor Bridgett right on the face.
"…"
And then, Professor Bridgett's face stretched into a smile as she let out a boisterous laugh, slapping her thighs in amusement.
"Hahahaha! Hahahahahahaha! This crazy kid!"
Professor laughed her face off.
"Hahahhahahahahahhaha!"
And while she was busy laughing … the other students started to make some absurd demands.
"Do a backflip!"
Kris did.
"Front handspring followed by a 360!"
She did.
"Side flip and a smile please!"
She flipped without smiling.
"A wall flip and someone who will treat me right!"
She did a wall flip.
Seeing Kris' capability to perform all their requests, the students got more excited and excited as they kept on throwing more demands …
After all, you rarely see such a sight in real life, especially for these bored greenhorns.
And with each flip, Kris' breath got more raggedy and laborious as she started to land more wobbly each time.
At this point, she might really truly faint …
"A dragon twist—"
Smack!
A crispy sound of a head being smacked resounded out.
"Ouch! The f*ck?"
"Stop messing with the sick gal. Assh*le."
Daria jokingly renounced the most excited and demanding one out of all the students.
"Ah? Dari?" the black-haired girl while clutching her head in pain, uttered in confusion.
"Yes, yes, the one and only~."
Hearing her whimsical tone, the black-haired girl smiled wryly as she kept on rubbing her head.
"Hahaha, I got carried away."
Dismissing it with a wave of her hand, Daria said: "More importantly, somebody get De Nayale over there. She's on her last breath. Probably."
Following Daria's fingers, people's attention gathered on the decadent figure in the hallway …
Finally settling down, the students now have the chance to truly appreciate the lady in the hall.
Focusing their gaze on her, the rise and fall of her chest as she tried to catch her breath looked so strangely enchanting … Especially, her natural cold eyes, even colder and deeper with her frail condition that it helplessly drew people's gaze into it as if it was a hypnotic spell …
And then, a sudden feeling of drowning in it somehow crawled into the back of their heads …
So rather than help the poor lad, they simply gawked at her in wonder.
Sigh, kids …
"Kris, are you okay?"
Fortunately, bursting their stupor was a pink-headed girl's concerned voice.
The students saw her speaking quietly with the black-haired beauty. After a few exchanges of words, they stood up under the gaze of the students while Rebecca supported Kris with her body.
They slowly vanished in the eyes of the many as Rebecca took Kris away.
"…"
"Welll, that was anticlimactic," Daria said in amusement.
Rubbing her forehead in exasperation, Irene said: "Ugh, this could have ended quicker if only you all acted like an adult."
"Fufu, you're just bitter since somebody got to De Nayale first," Felicia teased lightly as she covered her mouth while softly laughing.
"Ohh, you have a crush on De Nayale?" the instigator of the earlier events asked excitedly.
"For the last time, I do not have a crush on De Nayale!"
"Yes, yes, we hear you."
"And yet, you don't listen!"
As they continued to tease the stern Irene, the professor, forgotten temporarily in the sideline, continued to laugh like a maniac.
"Hahahahahahahaha!"
Certainly, this was a class of oddballs.
.
.
.
.
.
"Kris?" I called out quietly.
"…"
Maybe because of her poor condition, she didn't answer and simply leaned on me for support.
Involuntarily swallowing, my throat rolled in tension.
The warm close contact and the wafting cool scent threatens to overwhelm my senses.
I wasn't one to shy away from physical touch unlike Kris … however, every single time I almost lose my composure just from a casual touch.
Mou, this is all Kris' fault!
But I knew it wasn't the time nor place to prioritize those things.
Kris seemed to be in pain and burning up so I took a breath and immediately pushed all this embarrassment aside.
Softly knocking on the door of the clinic, I opened it and politely said:
"Excuse me."
"…"
An empty room entered my sight.
As much as possible, I carefully placed Kris on an empty bed.
"Pwah!"
Though, Kris' heavy frame made it a bit difficult …
"What are you made of?" I exasperatedly complain, heaving from heavy labor.
Dropping on a seat beside the bed, I gathered my breath and waited for the nurse to come back.
Ticktock. Ticktock.
Time ticked and about half an hour had passed but not a single shadow of the nurse were to be seen.
Having nothing to do, I lazily leaned on my hand and rested my gaze on Kris' peacefully sleeping face.
Staring intensely at her jawline and sunken cheeks, I suddenly had the urge to touch it.
"No, no, Rebecca, it's rude to touch someone without permission."
I held back my reaching hand from working on my intrusive thoughts.
.
.
.
"Or maybe a little is fine?
"One poke would harm no one, right?
"Hmm ….
"It'll be just one quick poke, hehe."
Poke.
"Oh, it's softer than it looks," I commented as I continued to gaze at her cheeks.
"Maybe one more time?"
Poke.
"Hmm …"
Poke. Poke.
"Hmmmmmm …."
Poke. Poke. Poke.
"Hehe, this is fun."
"Sure it does."
"Riiight?"
"…?"
Eh? That's weird.
There were only two people here—me and Kris.
Kris is currently sleeping, and I'm awake, so … who said that?
"....."
Slowly turning my head back, my sight was filled by a dominating white get-up, moreover, at the top of it, I saw a smiling face calmly staring at me!
"Ma'am?!"
Jumping on my feet, I exclaimed with widened eyes.
The woman's smiling eyes deepened even more as she laughed at my over-the-top reaction.
"Calm down, I wasn't scolding you."
"I-I wasn't doing anything wrong!"
"Yes, and I wasn't scolding you."
Probably trying to ease my tense nerves, the woman said that but as if to betray my thoughts, her next words—
"Though, you should probably ease up on the poking over there, sweetie."
My face immediately turned red in embarrassment at her frank words. I can't help but wordlessly bow my head in shame.
Seeing me like that, the woman let out a sigh and gently patted my head.
"I was just joking, but next time, let your sick friend rest up peacefully, okay?"
"… Yes, ma'am."
She nodded with a satisfied expression.
Seeing her going back to her station, I kept my distance and asked carefully:
"Umm … how long have you been here, ma'am?"
"Me? Hmmm, almost 9 years now, I think? I've been everywhere, and I think this school finally lets me settle down and …"
Oh, so ma'am is the school nurse.
However …
That's not why I'm asking!
I'm just curious how long you have been standing behind me, ma'am!
But it's certainly quite interesting to hear …
Soo …
.
.
.
"Ehh, oh my gosh! You met your husband here, ma'am?"
"Fufu, yes, he was quite a looker and a gentleman so it didn't take that long~."
Our shoulders huddle up together as we gossip about the madam's life—it started from her working life to talking about the madam nurse's love life.
Which I wasn't against at all. Mmh-mhm.
Hehe, it was so exciting! Meeting your destined one at school, getting to know each other, being friends, dating, and getting married …
That's such an ideal romance, I'm so jealous …
I wonder if I'll also get to experience that one day …
Having that thought, my eyes drifted unconsciously to Kris' sleeping figure.
"Uhh …"
And I saw her groaning and scrunching her brow in discomfort.
Were we too noisy? Or is she hurting?
Hurrying, I immediately checked up on Kris.
I put my hands on her forehead and she seems to be much hotter than earlier.
"Help her drink some paracetamol and it's best to take her home, sweetie."
Madam nurse came from behind also touching Kris' head to feel her temperature.
"Umm, that's perfect but is that okay? Class is still ongoing."
I hesitantly said, but she just waved her hand at us casually as she said:
"It's okay, I gave you permission. I'll send your professor a letter, let's see if anyone dares to write you up absent."
Getting her assurance, I laughed at her words and thanked the madam nurse wholeheartedly.
"Thank you so much!"
"No worries about it. Take care~."
"Yes!"
Without wasting more time, I helped Kris drink some medicine and woke her up to take her home.
Still out of it but complying, Kris leaned on me again for support as I said my goodbye to the madam nurse.
"Goodbye, ma'am!"

Afternoon, after class.
"Yo," Lia greeted.
"....."
And yet, no one responded back.
Lia was standing at the door, blankly staring ahead into the empty clinic.
"Where's everyone?" Lia said in a pitchy voice, question marks popping above her head.
"Where's Alex?
"Where's the nurse?
"Where's Waldo?
"Where am I?"
Scratching her head in confusion, she turned back and walked away.
"Ah, f*ck it, whatever."
She gave up.
