The Diary of a Crazy Teenager

Chapter 9: Hell has frozen

Alice gripped her jacket in anger as she continued her short walk to school. She was certain that steam was coming from her ears.

Passerbys stared briefly at the petite teenager who marched angrily down the road with a sour expression and, wearing the shortest skirt known to man.

The morning had started wonderfully until her mom kindly told her that she would be following her to one of her book reading clubs after school. She had no choice but to say yes, she could not say no to the woman that birthed her. But deep down she knew someone had set her up and it was obviously, Alex. Who else would do such but her infuriating brother that still smelt of eggs?

Maybe the book club wouldn't be so bad.

Ha! Who the hell was she kidding? It was going out be miserable, utterly miserable. Being stuck in a room with a bunch of annoying, pestering mothers who tried to make it their sole mission not to mind their business but to help the "wayward generation" when their kids were probably worse.

Alice hurridely entered the school building, and searched frantically for her friends or at least the people who always suck out her attention but the corridor was empty.

This couldn't be right, she wasn't late for school.

She continued her search until she heard loud voices coming from the school's auditorium.

She walked inside and was shocked to see the entire school there, already seated and the principal on the stage addressing the students.

She managed to find a seat at the back and tried to hear what the principal was saying but it was quite impossible with the loud excited voices of the students and where she was sitting. She slumped hopelessly on her seat and looked sideways to ask anyone what the commotion was all about.

Beside her was a blonde guy whose name she didn't know and didn't care to know but she knew he was a senior and he looked like he'd give her answers.

Clearing her throat, she tapped his shoulders to get his attention. "Sorry to bother you.. "

The blonde guy turned his head towards her and his eyes lit up with recognition.

"Hey Alice"

Wait, he knew her name? How did he know her name? She never once spoke to him.

"Ehm hi?" She said rather awkwardly.

The blonde guy smiled and stretched out his hand which she shook.

"I'm Owen, I and your boyfriend are friends, same class"

"Ohh. I'm sorry I totally forgot" she said sheepishly.

"it's cool" shrugging his shoulders "I didn't expect you to remember me. We never talked plus Eric left the country two months ago. Not to mention that, you probably don't see me around."

Alice, almost told him that the real reason she didn't remember was because, he was not relevant to her but, she refrained herself.

"Well firstly, he's my ex, and he didn't move into another country, just visiting."

Why the hell was she still defending him?

"You guys still talk right? Your relationship was like the talk of the school. "

Now that was some news. She always knew people talked about her and when she got into a relationship with Eric, it spiced things up.

A popular sophomore dating a handsome senior, wasn't that some tea?

She nearly laughed at the thought but realized that she'd probably look crazy. And why the hell were they still talking about her former relationship?

She twirled a loose curl on her hair with her fingers as she thought of the best answer to give.

"We still talk of course. We didn't end on bad terms or anything. It just couldn't be helped"

"That must have been really hard for you "

She nearly rolled her at his statement. Did she carry a sign that stated she was heartbroken and needed comforting words?

"Well life goes on. It's pointless wasting time on the past when there's the present." She tried her best not to sound rude to him afterall, he was just curious.

He seemed to get the signal because this time instead of commenting, he just nodded and turned front.

Finally peace and quiet.

Wait a second, why was everyone quiet?

Few minutes ago, she was sure it was a madhouse until now.

She leaned forward to make out what the principal was saying but even with the students quiet, she could barely hear him but she was able to catch some words like; "audition...best team..."

She leaned back and pondered on what she had heard. An audition? What was it for? And what did he mean by the best team? She turned sideways to ask the guy sitting besides are.

What was his name again? Oh yeah, Owen. But he was far too engrossed with his phone. Probably chatting with his next bimbo.

She smirked in satisfaction when she saw him adjust his jeans.

Yep, she had been right.

She turned back and resumed her previous thoughts. What audition? Unless...

"That despicable worm!"

Owen looked at her in confusion, wondering who she was talking to.

"Excuse me?"

She didn't bother to answer him as she dismissed him with a wave of her hand and turned her attention back to the principal. He was about to say something important.

"Now I would like to introduce the person who came up with this brilliant idea. Miss Veronica!"

The school stood up and for cheered the blonde who was blissfully unaware of the impending danger.

Veronica smiled and thanked the principal for the wonderful recognition. Her eyes moved through the crowd and landed on a familiar pair of dark brown eyes who smiled evilly and moved her tumb across her jugular slowly.

Alice smiled at the fear that was evident in Ron's eyes. She had every reason to be afraid for in a few minutes, she will be minced meat.

Minced meat, will she be.

***

Alice marched like a woman on a mission while Laura tried to keep up with her.

"Ali, slow down! "

She ignored Laura as she continued her search. Her eyes landed on a girl with blonde hair wearing a short skirt and a plain tee-shirt with dark boots. Veronica.

"Veronica Rose Martins! Do you mind telling me, although you technically have no other choice, what possessed you to come up with such an idea as grievous as that?"

Veronica turned towards Alice while smiling cheerfully at her.

"Hey Ali boo" she looked past Alice and waved at Laura who had been forced follow her. "Hey Laura"

"Hi"

"Don't hi the traitor" Alice said angrily at her.

"Alice we're both wearing short skirts." Veronica said with excitement as she looked at their outfits.

"Nobody cares!" Alice snapped.

Veronica rolled her eyes as she turned around, facing the notice board.

"Stop being over dramatic Ali boo"

"Don't call me that, only one person is allowed to call me that, and she, died the moment she went to see the principal to give the most stupid suggestion ever known to man!" Alice said while folding her arms.

She was not being dramatic.

Veronica rolled her eyes at Alice and attempted to place a paper on the notice board.

"Ali boo, would you mind helping me?"

Alice tapped her chin and pretended to think hard on it.

"I was about to say yes but on second thoughts, no!"

"I'll help you"

Alice turned back to see the backstabber. Laura smiled innocently as she sidestepped Alice to help Veronica.

"Thanks L"

Alice glared at Laura as she helped Veronica. If Erica were here, she would have supported her but Erica didn't come to school because she was at her grandparents house.

Alice counted to twenty before she spoke. "What in the world made you come up with such an idea?"

Veronica secured the pin on the billboard and faced Alice.

"You of course "

Alice looked at her in shock.

"Me? Was I crazy when I came up with such an idea? Was I intoxicated"

"Well..." clearing her throat, Veronica continued "You didn't say it directly..."

"Indeed"

"... But something related." Veronica continued. "You told me to discuss with the principal if I wanted to spice things up so indirectly, you're the brain behind this operation."

She couldn't believe what she was hearing. She turned her attention to Laura who had gotten bored of watching her friends argue and was currently watching a video.

"Can you believe her?"

Laura nodded absentmindedly and, continued what she were doing.

"What do you mean you believe her?" Alice said in disbelief

"Well, I may have told her about this before?" Veronica said guiltily.

Alice shook her head in disbelief, she couldn't believe what she was hearing. "And I'm the last one to find out? The same time with the whole school?"

"Ali boo, it's not like that... " Veronica began but was interrupted by Alice.

"Well it's like that, you obviously didn't tell me"

"I was going to"

"Really? And I pray, do tell when you were going to do such?"

"Well..." Veronica whispered.

Alice rolled her eyes at her lack of an answer.

"Probably never right? Cause you knew I'd say no for obvious reasons. Plus even if you went ahead with the idea, I won't participate in the competition but now it's official there's a chance I'd likely take part in such strenuous activity?"

"If you put it that way"

"Well do you want to know what my answer is?"

"Yes"

"Are you sure"

"On second thought's..."

She stepped closer and smiled cruely

"Hell would freeze before I participate in that competition"

Veronica opened her mouth in disbelief and tried to utter a word but was interrupted rudely.

"Well, well, well. If it isn't dumb, dumber, dumbest and then..." pointing her fingers at Alice. "The big dummy"

Alice cringed at whoever had spoken. They were only three at the moment and her counting was so off.

"Oops, you're only three. I must have miscalculated. Where did the last one go to?"

The girls turned their attention to the voice and sneered when the saw the obnoxious red haired.

Betty.

Alice counted to ten before looking at Betty. No matter how much she would love to push her from a cliff, she wasn't trilled about jail, orange was so not her color.

She stared at Betty after some seconds and was about to reply before she was interrupted by Laura.

"Hello Betty, it's a pleasure to meet you.." Laura said while smiling.

To others, it looked like Laura and Betty were long lost friends but Laura was always smiling and that made her the deadliest amongst them. She would literally smile at you while stabbing you in the back and then offer you a bandage. She was either your ally or your foe, there was nothing like in-between with Laura. It was no surprise that her mantra was;

"kill them with kindness."

"What brings you here?"

Alice rolled her eyes as she saw Betty place her fingers on her chin, pretending to think. But it would be impossible for her to do such brain work as one needed a brain to begin with and Betty, sweet jolly Betty was lacking in that department.

"Me?..."

No I... Dimwit.

She twirled her hair in her hand and smiled innocently. "I was just wondering how it will feel to not breathe the same air with..."

"Well, you could always die"

"Veronica! "

"What?" Veronica said, feigning ignorance as she looked at Laura.

Alice put on her fakest smile and looked at Betty.

"Hi Betts".

"Alice dearest, I definitely didn't see you there..."

Yeah right. The biggest lie of the century.

"What do you want Betty?"

Betty smiled deviously and looked at Alice with innocent eyes. She was definitely up to something.

"Well, I just wanted to ask how your boyfriend is as a wonderful person I am..."

Was her relationship the only thing everyone talked about? Why did everyone care so much? It wasn't as if Betty didn't know they'd broken up.

"Well my ex-boyfriend is great, thanks for asking"

"Anytime"

Betty smirked and was about to leave before she stopped and looked back.

"I never knew you had functioning brain cells Veronica, your idea was absolutely brilliant." She looked at her nails before continuing "it's a shame you guys won't be auditioning... "

"And why is that?" Laura asked.

Betty shrugged and acted nonchalant. She was good, good at acting and she played her role perfectly because she knew people were watching.

"Well isn't it obvious..."

Betty looked deeply into Alice's eyes as she continued "You're all talentless and the last time one of you tried, you ended up breaking a leg... Literally "

"Shut it." Veronica sneered.

Betty placed her hands on her hips and smirked. "Exactly what you washed up version of me has been doing all your life, shutting it up."

"Excuse you?" Veronica, stepped forward, with every intention to smack Betty in the face.

That did it, this bitch was going down.

"Now that's where you're wrong Betty love."

"Firstly..." Alice walked slowly towards Betty. "The audacity you have to speak as though you are below us is mind-blowing. Just because we give you the time of the day doesn't mean we can't make your little life more miserable than it is. Secondly, don't you dare utter nonsense about my friends or I'll make you regret ever coming to the school"

Alice stopped in front of Betty and looked at her with disgust.

"And lastly, we're auditioning and we're going to take your ass down."

Hell had truly frozen.
