Chapter 27: The writer must love plot twists
Alice didn't think she was cruel. If not for anything, she believed that she was among the kindest people to exist. Asides the fact that she regularly made snide remarks or, laughed when someone wore a bad wig, but come on, who wouldn't? If not for anything, the fact that she had not bashed Betty's face on a wall or pushed her brother off a cliff said enough of how gracious she was. So with all her good deeds, why was fate adamant on punishing her?
Was it because of all the people that she had hurt in the past? Was this karma? Or had the devil set his eyes on her?
Alice sucked in a breathe and took several steps back.
"Breathe, breathe, breathe." She whispered to herself. But her words contradicted her actions. She stumbled backwards and Eric rushed to her side.
"Stop!" She yelled as she stretched her hand to stop him. "Not here Eric." She muttered, her voice losing all the confidence.
"Is everything alright?" Miss Medley asked, looking concerned as she stared at Alice's pale face as though she had seen a ghost.
Alice, looked at Miss Medley and smiled brightly. "Yes ma'am. I merely tripped on my own steps, silly me!" She exclaimed as she giggled and walked back to her seat, ignoring Eric that still stood beside her, waiting to approach her.
Alice, sat on her chair and glanced briefly at Erica ad Laura who sat at her side. "What? I'm fine." She assured them before she faced forward.
She was fine, she had to be fine. That was the only way she could live through this sick joke.
Whoever was writing her story, deserved a raise because they had one hell of a way of turning her life perfectly upside down. The only thing constant in her life was probably plot twists.
"Alice, do you want to step outside and have fresh air?"
Alice gasped as though Erica had said the most impossible thing in the universe. "Why would I need that? The meeting isn't over."
"I know, and that's why we should probably step out."
"She's right Alice, we should step outside." Laura chipped in, feeling concerned.
"Why? If someone is determined to make my life a living hell, I might as well give them one hell of a show." She grinned and fixed her attention to the drama director.
The woman rambled, oblivious to the girl that was slowly turning into ice and the boy, whose gaze begged to melt her icy heart.

"This is obviously a sick joke? What's going to happen next? Will the President come to our school?"
"That happened last week Ronnie."
"What? How come I wasn't aware?"
Laura giggled at the horrified expression on her face. "Because you were too busy dancing in Ryan's arms."
"Ew, as if." Ronnie gagged in disgust at the thought and folded her hand. "But on a serious note guys. This is too coincidental."
Laura brighted in excitement at the thought of a force that could most likely be involved. "This sounds like something from a Sherlock Holmes case file."
"Lau Lau, you read too many crime books for your own good." Erica drawled as she glanced at Alice who seemed to be in another world of hers. "Whether it's coincidental or not, I'm more worried about how Alice feels."
Alice shrugged as she sipped on her iced coffee. "I honestly don't know how to react anymore. I literally have no tears left to cry."
"Do you want to leave the play?"
"Erica, you shouldn't suggest that to her."
"Laura, I'm only being reasonable here. Didn't you hear when the drama director said that he would be playing the King of the fairies and she'll be his queen? This is definitely a recipe for disaster."
"And you think avoiding him forever isn't?"
"Well, It's definitely the best strategy."
"And for how long is that exactly supposed to work for? For all eternity? Come on, he's just one random dude that broke her heart, isn't it about time she, I don't know, moved on?"
"Laura!"
Ronnie cleared her throat, interrupting their argument. "Can you guys quiet down? I might as well hand you a mic so you'd give the whole school a reality show." She sat beside Alice and placed her hand on her shoulder. "Ali, what do you want?"
Alice shrugged. "I can't deny that they're both right. It'll be best to avoid him but at the same time, for how long? It seems as if no matter how hard I try to be rid of him, he comes crashing into my life. I told myself the last time that I would never show any weakness in his sight again. I'm done."
Veronica raised her hand and smiled brightly. "Problem solved then, you're not leaving the play and you'll continue on the path you've been on."
"Alice, don't be offended but is like your ex a stalker or something cause why is he everywhere that you are?"
"Who knows Erica, I probably have a thing for weird guys. Or that's how my character is written."
"What do you mean by that?" Laura questioned, her curiosity piqued. "You're talking like this isn't reality."
"Maybe it isn't? Who knows, I'll probably wake up tomorrow and forget everything that happened today. This might even be a dream."
Veronica smiled brightly and stretched her hand out to Alice. "Well, if it's a dream, can I take your channel bag?"
Alice stopped sipping her drink and glared at Ronnie. "Not in this life." She removed her bag from the table and placed it on the bench, away from Ronnie's reach.
Erica's eyes, followed Alice's movement as she went back to sipping her drink. Her eyes widened in horror as she realized what she was drinking. "Alice, what's that in your hand?"
Alice blinked and raised her cup. "This? Coffee, why?"
"Coffee?!" Ronnie shrieked and snatched the almost empty cup from Alice's hands. "Are you mad?! Why the hell would you take coffee? Aren't you allergic to it? At least tell me that it's the diluted one?"
"Well." Alice stretched out her hands and counted how many spoons she requested for. "This is the strongest one."
"Are you trying to unalive yourself?"
"Like I'd do that in front of you guys. I just needed something that was would wake up my senses."
Erica rolled her eyes at her stupidity. "More like send you to the ER."
"Thank heavens Erica saw that in time. We're going to the nurse now!" Veronica motioned for Alice to get up and she rolled her eyes in annoyance.
"I'm fine guys, the headaches haven't started yet. I'll live."
Alice gave them a reassuring smile but when she realized that they weren't having it, she reluctantly stood up. Her vision became slightly blurry once she was on her feet and she gripped onto the nearest table.
"Alice!" Her friends screamed in unison.
She stretched out her hand, indicating for them to stay away from her as she adjusted her breathe. "I said I'm fine. This is nothing."
Alice was lying. She felt like absolute crap and she felt like collapsing. But she knew that it would only make them fret and that was the one thing she didn't want.
She'd made them worry too much these last weeks. It wasn't like she was the main character or anything.
"Do you ladies need help?" An unfamiliar male voice asked but Alice was too weak to look at who it was.
"Oh, you! You're really going to this school." Erica said excitedly.
"Did you think I was lying?" He laughed and said something incoherent.
Why was Erica sounding chippy? And who was this guy that the girls seemed to know.
"Girls meet Liam. He helped me the other day and he's a transfer student."
"Hey."
"Hey."
"Hello."
"Nice to meet you guys. And you too."
Alice nodded, guessing he was referring to her since she was the only one that didn't acknowledge him.
From her side view, she noticed that he had stretched his hand for a handshake. With the last strength she had, she clasped her hand around his and looked up at him.
"Nice to—" Alice stared in horror as she looked at the familiar electric blue eyes of the boy that she had met some weeks ago. Wasn't he the guy that she had unfortunately met and broke his swing? What the hell was he going here?!
He looked at her, also utterly surprised at seeing her. "You! The trespasser!"
This was the final straw, Alice had definitely had it.
The side effect of the coffee kicked in and she slowly began to lose consciousness. As she collapsed on
the floor, the last things she saw were her friends running to catch her and a pair of electric blue eyes that lit up in mischief.
