THE DESCENT OF EVIL GODS

Chapter 9: The First Awakenings

The Birth of Power

The training grounds of the military base trembled beneath an overwhelming surge of mana. Golden energy radiated from Su Chen's body, wrapping around the gathered soldiers and officers like an unrelenting storm.

A few fell to their knees, gasping for air. Others tried to resist the pressure but found their bodies frozen in place.

Su Chen stood at the center, his black eyes gleaming with an almost divine light.

"You have all been told that power is limited," Su Chen's voice rang out, cold and absolute. "That you are weak. That you are incapable of standing against forces beyond this world."

He raised his hand—and the golden energy expanded outward in a pulse.

Most flinched, but a few gritted their teeth and stood firm.

Good.

Su Chen nodded. "That ends today."

The golden energy pushed deeper into them, bypassing their flesh and sinking into something more profound—their very souls.

It hurt.

It felt as though something was breaking inside them.

And then—

A spark.

Something lit up inside them, like a flame that had always existed but had never been given air to burn.

The first awakenings had begun.

First Steps into Power

Gasps filled the air as the soldiers clutched their heads, their bodies trembling from the sheer force of what was happening.

And then—

Boom!

A surge of fire erupted from one man's body. His eyes widened as flames coiled around his arms, moving as if responding to his very will.

"I… I feel it," he gasped. "The power… It's real!"

Another soldier staggered back as his hands crackled with blue lightning.

A woman gasped as shadows coiled around her, wrapping around her body like a cloak.

One officer, older than the rest, found his vision sharpening, his body suddenly moving faster, stronger, as if time itself had slowed for him.

This wasn't a mere physical change.

They could feel it in their souls.

A connection to the world—a connection to power itself.

Some of them awakened elemental affinities like fire, lightning, or wind.

Others gained physical enhancements, their muscles surging with unnatural strength and speed.

A few awakened strange and unique abilities, their very presence shifting in ways no one could yet explain.

One man, silent and withdrawn, suddenly found the air trembling around him. When he clenched his fist—the ground cracked beneath his feet.

He looked at Su Chen, his eyes burning with determination.

And Su Chen simply nodded.

The Training Begins

The moment of awe passed quickly. Su Chen knew that power alone meant nothing.

"If you think this makes you strong," Su Chen spoke, his voice sharp as a blade, "you are mistaken."

His gaze swept over them. Many still stared at their hands, dazed by their newfound abilities.

"Awakening is only the first step," he continued. "Without control, you are no different than a wild beast."

A soldier grinned, flexing his arm, watching as flames flickered around his fingertips. "I don't know about that, sir. This power feels pretty good to me."

Su Chen vanished.

In less than a heartbeat, he reappeared right in front of the soldier.

Before the man could react—

Boom!

A single tap on his chest sent him flying backward, crashing into the ground ten meters away.

Silence fell.

"You are weak," Su Chen said coldly.

The soldier groaned, struggling to sit up. But when he looked at Su Chen again, there was no anger—only awe.

"Starting tomorrow," Su Chen continued, "you will fight. Real combat. No more drills, no more theory. You will be thrown against beasts and abominations—the first of many enemies before the gods arrive."

A few of them paled at the idea.

But the best among them—those who truly understood the situation—nodded.

Su Chen turned away as they processed his words.

This was only the beginning.

The first warriors of humanity had awakened.

And soon—

They would become gods' worst nightmare.
