The Dark Fairy King

Chapter 86: Summary

✅ Chapter 1: The Forgotten Prisoner

Scarlette, the narrator, reveals that she was once part of the Love Fairy Kingdom but was locked away in a dungeon for believing in a different, more intense kind of love. She spent centuries in isolation, forgotten by everyone. When guards from the new king—Baltimore—accidentally open the prison gates, she escapes. Shocked to find the kingdom changed and blooming with the "Hundred-Year Tree," she realizes a century has passed. No one remembers her, not even the King. Scarlette, once Queen of the Love Fairies, vows revenge.

✅ Chapter 2: A Charade

Scarlette blends in with young fairies undergoing training, pretending to be one of them. She fakes a fall into a puddle to get access to the changing room and disguises herself. A kind young fairy named Doverel befriends her. Scarlette dyes her hair with the Hundred-Year Bloom so Baltimore won't recognize her. Elder Arisa tries to confront her, but Scarlette defuses the situation with sarcasm. Baltimore fails to recognize Scarlette when he hands her a wand—this confirms to her that her legacy has truly been erased. She swears he will remember her soon enough.

✅ Chapter 3: The Queen of Hearts and the Emerald

Scarlette recounts her past. She was the first Love Fairy—born from magic itself—and mentored others. She opposed Baltimore, the second Love Fairy, who turned love into obedience through wand-based enchantments. During a war with Dark Fairies, Scarlette saved Baltimore. But while she was weakened, he created the Baltimorean Emerald, a reality-altering artifact. He used it to make his words law, erasing Scarlette from memory. However, because of her origin, the magic couldn't affect her. In prison, she altered the Emerald's magic so it would only work with a Light Guardian from another world and a hidden scroll. She sacrificed nearly all her magic to do this—and it worked. The Emerald now resists Baltimore. Her legacy may be gone, but she is still alive.

✅ Chapter 4: Nothing like the Present

Scarlette walks the new world and is shocked to find that 500 years have passed. Many things she knew—people, perfume, traditions—are gone. She learns that Baltimore may have used the Emerald to keep himself young. He remains king. Scarlette, unchanged in age, blends into this future world but vows to find the Emerald and restore truth. She tries to adjust by following the young fairies into their school, and for the first time in centuries, she sleeps in a real bed.

✅ Chapter 5: New Friends and Old Lessons

Scarlette awakens to Doverel inviting her to training. Doverel uses a clever mix of Light and Love Magic—something rare. Scarlette sees great potential in her. In class, they're taught regressive ideas: love is only for preserving species, inter-species bonding is discouraged, and offensive magic is forbidden. Scarlette challenges these rules. Doverel also questions them but is clearly scared. The young fairies are told to go out and match couples—quickly. Scarlette sees that love is now a system of control, not choice. She feels a flicker of hope that Doverel may one day see things as she does.

✅ Chapter 6: Gone Too Soon

The Love Fairies begin their field assignment to match couples. Scarlette stays close to Doverel, who is surprisingly successful and cheerful. Scarlette uses real communication—not just magic—to help a quarreling couple reconcile. Doverel quietly reminds her that quantity, not quality, is what gets rewarded. The tension between Scarlette and Doverel grows when Doverel starts prioritizing numbers and leaves to work alone.

Soon after, Scarlette spots Edna—a competitive Love Fairy—wandering too close to the Dark Fairy forest. Despite Scarlette's warning, Edna is attacked and dragged into the shadows by a Dark Fairy. Scarlette is too late to save her and watches Edna disintegrate into red dust. It shakes her deeply. She returns to the Kingdom filled with guilt, afraid that Doverel may have been next.

✅ Chapter 7: Forgotten Fairies and Spells

Scarlette finds Doverel safe, surrounded by admirers praising her 98 successful matches. When Scarlette informs her about Edna's death, Doverel responds coldly—saying choices have consequences. The crowd mocks Edna for her carelessness. No one seems to care she's gone. Even Elder Arisa is dismissive, suggesting Scarlette should get her name on the "golden board" before complaining.

Scarlette is horrified by the loss of empathy in her kind. That night, while others rest, she practices magic near the edge of the woods, motivated by the memory of Edna. A silent Dark Fairy watches her from the trees—unmoving, calm, and observant. Scarlette continues her practice in secret, determined to protect her people in ways the system refuses to teach.

✅ Chapter 8: Practice Makes Perfect

Scarlette distances herself from Doverel, who is now surrounded by fans. She reflects on how Doverel once had potential but is now just like the rest—obedient and obsessed with numbers. Alone, Scarlette throws herself into training, pouring her rage and frustration into building her magic back up. She finds strength in her isolation.

The same Dark Fairy still watches her from afar—calm, silent, and unreadable. Though they've never spoken, his presence becomes part of her rhythm. Back at the Kingdom, Elder Arisa scolds Scarlette for having no matches, but Scarlette responds coldly. Her refusal to obey only strengthens her resolve: she will not bend. She is preparing for something much bigger.

✅ Chapter 9: Make Sure You Do It

Two days have passed since Edna's death, and no one talks about it. Scarlette notices Edna's empty bed and how easily the others have erased her. Even Doverel, now close with the top scorers, says nothing. Scarlette cannot sleep. The next morning, Arisa storms in, announcing she will follow the only fairy who hasn't made any couples—Scarlette.

Rather than panic, Scarlette walks out early and watches a bickering Light Fairy couple. She is sarcastic and uninterested in fixing shallow drama. Arisa confronts her, demanding she do her job. Scarlette feigns enthusiasm and casts a love-sick spell on the female Light Fairy, who starts sobbing uncontrollably. Her partner comforts her, and the couple reconciles. Scarlette mocks the performance, both amused and disgusted.

The watching Dark Fairy chuckles again, confirming he's still observing. Scarlette isn't sure whether she's becoming stronger or just darker—but she knows she's being noticed.

✅ Chapter 10: The Baltimorean Emerald

Back in the Kingdom, the golden scoreboard reveals Doverel is now ranked #1 with 450 matches. Scarlette remains last. She decides the scoreboard doesn't matter and instead targets what truly does: the Baltimorean Emerald.

To access it, Scarlette uses pheromone-based Love Magic—subtle and infectious—to manipulate Arisa. Under the spell, Arisa begins spreading the influence to others like a chain reaction. Guards and staff forget what they were doing and begin helping Scarlette unknowingly.

By the end of the chapter, Scarlette's plan is working. The palace begins to shift, doors opening for her as she makes her move toward the Emerald—her true objective.

✅ Chapter 11: Fragile Harmony

Scarlette attends a palace court session with Doverel, where Love Fairies report the number of couples they've paired. Doverel mocks Scarlette for only creating one couple, and their tense exchange reveals Doverel's transformation into a rule-following elitist. Scarlette questions the morality of the Love Fairy system, prompting Doverel and the others to distance themselves. When Scarlette publicly challenges the system, King Baltimore confronts her, not recognizing her despite their shared past. Scarlette realizes she has no allies, not even among her own kind, and resolves to reclaim her power.

✅ Chapter 12: Treason

Scarlette directly confronts King Baltimore, accusing him of controlling love and erasing her from history using the Emerald. Despite her impassioned speech, the court mocks her. As red mist magic seeps from her, Scarlette reveals her power and uses it to subdue the guards and shatter Elder Arisa's mind. She declares herself the rightful Queen and the first Love Fairy. When Baltimore tries to resist, Scarlette wounds him fatally and reclaims the healing she once gave him. As the King dies, the guards, under her spell, worship him obsessively. Scarlette vanishes in shadow, consumed by isolation and betrayal.

✅ Chapter 13: Escape Into Darkness

In the aftermath of Baltimore's death, chaos erupts. Scarlette's red mist spells cause madness and narcissism among the fairies. Doverel is trampled, begging for help that Scarlette withholds. Scarlette escapes the palace, her powers waning, and is nearly caught by guards. Exhausted, she collapses into the arms of a dark, silent figure—Veravos, the feared Hunter of Villains. He does not attack but watches her with eerie calm. As the guards close in, Veravos offers Scarlette a choice: fight with him or against him. She realizes she's outmatched and uncertain about his true motives.

✅ Chapter 14: Yes, Destroy Their Hearts

Veravos presents Scarlette with a dark contract—his protection in exchange for future payment. She initially refuses, demanding he prove himself. As guards attack, Veravos unleashes his devastating powers. Scarlette's own powers return just in time, and she conjures a destructive "Love Pentagon" spell that causes guards to turn on each other in emotional chaos. Veravos watches her with growing respect. Scarlette, recognizing their power together, signs the contract. Moments later, she faints from exhaustion and is carried by Veravos into the cursed mangrove forest. As she fades into unconsciousness, Scarlette reflects on their strange bond, hinting that their shared story has only just begun.
