The Cursed Talent

Chapter 10: The Shattered Mirror

**The Cursed Talent**

**Part 10: The Shattered Mirror**

Aki's footsteps echoed in the hollow void of the fractured space, each step marking his resolve as he moved away from the Creator's fading presence. The air around him felt lighter now, as though the oppressive weight of destiny had lifted just enough to allow him to breathe. But the silence that stretched out before him was thick, suffocating, and filled with uncertainty. The Creator's final words rang in his ears—*every choice you make will come with a cost*.

What was the cost? And more importantly, was he willing to pay it?

He stopped, his thoughts swirling like a storm in his mind. He couldn't ignore the gravity of what he had just done. Defying the Creator, the one who controlled the flow of time itself, was no small thing. He had chosen a path that was not only uncertain but dangerous. If he failed, it wouldn't just be his life that would end—it would be the end of everything.

Yet, a small part of him, buried deep within, still held on to hope. If he could change the cycle, even slightly, perhaps there was a way to save both himself and the world around him. But that would require more than just willpower—it would require answers. Answers that only one person could give him now.

He turned his gaze toward the horizon, where the fractured edges of time still wavered. The world he had known, the people he had saved, seemed so distant now. How much of himself had he truly lost in the process? How much of his soul had been given away, piece by piece, in the name of fixing the broken?

His mind drifted to those he had helped—those whose lives had been spared by his cursed gift. They had moved on with their lives, grateful, yes, but unaware of the true cost. His curse had saved them, but it had drained him. And with each soul he repaired, he lost a piece of his own. Would they even remember the cost once it was all over? Would they feel the emptiness he carried within him?

The thought was unbearable.

But he couldn't allow himself to dwell on it now. There was still work to be done. He had made his choice, and now he had to see it through. But where would he start? Where could he find the answers he sought?

His heart pounded as a thought struck him: there was one place where he might find the key to understanding the cycle—the Mirror of Souls. The ancient relic had been hidden away for centuries, its powers sealed by those who feared what it could reveal. Legend had it that the Mirror of Souls could show a person the truth of their existence, the threads of fate that bound them to the world. It was said to reveal not just the past, but the future—and the possibility of change.

Aki's mind was set. He couldn't waste any more time. The Mirror might hold the answers he needed to break the cycle. But it was not an easy relic to find. The Mirror was kept in a hidden temple, deep in the heart of the Forgotten Lands—a place said to be cursed, a place where time itself was unstable. It was a place where reality bent and broke, where the boundaries between the living and the dead were paper-thin.

But Aki had no choice. The mirror was the only way forward.

The journey ahead would be treacherous. The Forgotten Lands were filled with dangers, creatures twisted by time and memory, guardians of the ancient secrets that lay hidden beneath the surface. But for Aki, the danger was no longer a deterrent. He had faced worse in his quest to repair the world, and he had never backed down. Now, with the weight of the universe on his shoulders, he had to keep moving forward.

The first step was to leave this fractured space, this place between worlds. Aki focused, drawing on the remnants of his power, the last vestiges of his ability to manipulate time and space. The strain of using his gift was always immense, but this time, it felt different. His soul screamed in protest as he reached out, pulling himself through the rift, back into the world that had become so alien to him.

The world he returned to was one of desolation. The cracks in reality had spread, and time itself seemed to flicker in and out of existence. People moved through the streets like ghosts, their faces hollow and distant, as though they were trapped in some unending loop. The sky above was dark, an unnatural shade of violet that never seemed to shift. Aki's heart ached as he walked through the empty streets, feeling the weight of the broken world pressing on him. The cycle was unraveling, and he could see it with his own eyes now.

He pushed forward, determined to reach the Forgotten Lands. The journey would take him far from the familiar, into the heart of the unknown. But he was prepared. He had to be.

The landscape changed as he ventured deeper into the wilderness. The air grew thick and heavy, the ground beneath his feet sinking with each step. The land seemed to stretch on forever, an endless expanse of twisted trees and jagged rocks. The closer he got to the Forgotten Lands, the more distorted the world became. Time twisted, the past and future colliding in a chaotic dance. The sky above flickered between day and night, as if it couldn't decide which it should be.

In the distance, Aki could see it—the temple. Its silhouette was barely visible through the thick fog that clung to the land, but he could feel the power emanating from it, a force so ancient and powerful that it seemed to warp reality itself. He quickened his pace, his breath coming in short bursts, his body screaming in protest as the strain of his journey took its toll.

As he reached the entrance of the temple, a cold wind swept through the air, and the ground beneath his feet cracked open, revealing dark, shifting shadows. The temple itself seemed to pulse with energy, as if it were alive, breathing in time with the world around it. Aki hesitated for a moment, but then he stepped forward, crossing the threshold into the unknown.

Inside the temple, the air was thick with dust and silence. The walls were lined with ancient carvings, their meanings lost to time. Aki's footsteps echoed through the vast chamber as he made his way deeper into the heart of the temple. The Mirror of Souls was close now—he could feel its presence, a hum in the air that seemed to draw him toward it.

And then, there it was. The Mirror.

It stood tall in the center of the chamber, its surface shimmering with an ethereal glow. The glass was smooth, reflecting not just Aki's image, but the very fabric of his soul. As he stepped closer, the reflection in the mirror began to shift, showing not just his own face, but the countless lives he had touched, the countless choices he had made.

And for the first time, Aki saw the truth.

The cycle, the curse—it wasn't just about him. It wasn't just about the world. It was about something deeper, something ancient. The Mirror had shown him the true cost of his actions, the consequences that stretched beyond the limits of time. But more than that, it showed him a path forward—a way to change the cycle, not by breaking it, but by shifting it, realigning it, without destroying everything in its wake.

The cost, Aki realized, was not just his life. It was the very balance of existence itself. But if he could learn to walk the line between repair and destruction, between creation and sacrifice, perhaps there was still hope.

Perhaps he could fix not just the world, but the very nature of time itself.
