Chapter 74: Choice
After coming back to his senses, Xenor coughed.
Xane covered the tattoo on his neck and asked with interest, "Teacher, what should I do about this mark?"
Xenor waved his hand. "Oh, don't worry. It's because you have recently formed the mark that's why it has those mysterious properties. In a day or two, it will become normal."
Xane nodded his head, not showing any emotion whatsoever.
After everything that happened, he also decided to drop his act.
He casually took out the unused sixth hex art and placed it on the table.
Xenor removed the mirror and walked back to his seat.
Before he could sit, Xane smiled and asked, "Teacher, what should I do next?"
Xenor sat down and stared at him. Xane could sense that, from time to time, his gaze kept going toward his neck.
Though he kind of liked the grey tattoo, he found its influence on others extremely annoying.
For some reason, the tattoo had an allure that trapped others in a stupor.
Zayn sensed Xane's trouble and explained, [Xane, don't worry. While the tattoo on our neck is a bit over the top, its effect will soon fade away.]
Xane just mentally nodded, not giving much importance to the matter. Instead, he stared at Xenor, who seemed to be thinking about something.
After some thought, Xenor tapped on the table and asked him, "Before anything, can you tell me what purity of the small world you left the mark on?"
Xane stared at Xenor, not sure if this was some kind of test or if Xenor truly could not find the purity of the world.
He asked Zayn, <What do you think?>
Zayn thought for some time and said, [I am not sure if there is a method to find the purity level of a mark. But Xane, remember when Soren formed his mark? The hex master was pretty confident about it back then.]
Xane remembered that when Xenor revealed the purity of the world Soren left a mark on, he looked pretty confident.
But then Xane asked, <Hey, tell me one thing. Does the type of mark have anything to do with the purity of the world we form a contract with?>
Zayn took his time and said, [Ah, I think there may be something about the complexity of the mark that might show the difference, but as for the size and design, I don't think it would reveal that.]
<Oh? How can you be so sure?>
[I mean, Xane, in the novel, there were mentions of hex masters who casually showcased their marks. If just looking at those marks really revealed such information, I don't think they would do that.]
Xane was a bit confused, then wondered why Xenor was so sure about Soren. <Wait, so after a few days, the mark loses its special effect. Maybe during this time, there could be some hidden runes that might reveal information about the world.>
Zayn did not deny it. [Ah, could be. So you think Xenor knew about the world we formed a contract with?]
Xane stared at Xenor, who was still waiting for an answer, all while lost in thought.
As he looked at his teacher, he got the feeling of looking at a confused gambler who had recently suffered a big loss.
Another possibility emerged in his mind. <It could be that this method of devising a world rank is based on comparison.>
It hit Zayn, and he said in realization. [ If that's the case, I don't think Xenor knows anything about our mark. After all, for a hex master to have a chaos element is already super rare, and for that hex master to learn the summoning hex art, it would be even rarer.]
Xane mentally nodded. The only reason he was thinking so much before responding was that he understood that, while at the current moment Xenor might not know the purity of the mark, who could say if, later down the line, the output of their hex art might reveal some flaw.
Xane knew that if others found out about Mythic purity, it would be equally dangerous as them finding out about his hex core potential.
But what about Adamant, or even Dark Core level purity? Wouldn't the scarcity of chaos-element hex masters who used summoning as their main element also turn him into another hot commodity in the eyes of others?
Xenor tapped once again on the table. "What are you thinking so long about?"
Xane decided to be vague and said, "Teacher, it's just that I'm not sure about the purity of the world myself."
Xenor raised his eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
Xane scratched his head. "You know the conditions I was in when going into the projection plane. I don't even remember what I did in the projection plane after the third attempt."
"It was like an automatic response where I moved around the projection plane, looking for any grey dot that had the same color or even slightly less color than my soul projection."
Xane rubbed his forehead. "I'm sure I left the mark on a medium world, because in my earlier two attempts, I did find a couple of grey dots that were super white that I avoided."
"It sort of became an automatic response for me."
Xenor raised his eyebrow, staring intently at him. "Is that all you have to say?"
This time, Xane decided to pass the ball and removed his hand from his neck. "Teacher, this is why I came to you. I didn't even know I had this mark on me. Can you please tell me what kind of world I formed a mark on?"
Xane looked surprised because Xenor's eyes were once again involuntarily drawn to the mark when he removed his hand from it.
It was like a flame attracting a moth. He sensed that from the moment Xenor had seen the mark on his neck, he seemed to be lost in his own world.
It was truly a fascinating ability, but Xane quickly covered the tattoo again, not wanting the hex master to once more grab his neck.
This once again pulled Xenor out of his stupor as the hex master rubbed his eyes.
Xenor wasted no time and tapped on the table. "Well, don't worry. With time, we will find out its exact purity. But with how intricate the mark on your neck is, I am sure you have found either an upper-mid purity or even a high purity."
Xenor said the last part a bit low, as Xane suddenly felt a shiver down his spine. He even saw Xenor's eyes flashing for a moment.
But the hex master shook his head and pulled two books from his robe, placing them before Xane. "Now it's time for you to decide what path of summoning you want to pursue."
