Chapter 45: The fear come true
Xane walked to the center of the plaza, where he had first teleported.
He spotted Senior Kion, who was standing near the city plaza.
The senior waved to him. "Oh, you are one of the newcomers from the morning, right?"
Xane nodded his head. "Yes, Senior Kion."
Kion nodded to him and said, "You don't have to come here. If you want to go back, just open the map on your ID and select the black castle anywhere in the city. It will open the portal outside."
Xane followed Kion's instructions, and sure enough, a similar portal appeared next to him.
He bowed to Kion and then moved toward the portal. The next moment, he was back in the hall.
This time, he found himself in the hall with ten doors.
It took him ten minutes to walk back to his room. The only good thing was that he found his room to be empty.
He checked the time on his ID and noticed that it was 1 p.m. lunchtime, so those guys should at least spend an hour or two outside.
Not wasting this moment, he just plopped onto his bed, and soon enough, he drifted into dreamland.
…
Inside a three-room dorm, Melina sliced into her meal with surgical precision.
She took her first bite and then looked at the bulky guy with slightly red hair who was standing at her door. He had similar red hair and blue eyes, except his eyes were a lighter shade of blue.
She took a sip of water and asked, "What's the matter, Jake? Why do you want to see me?"
Jake stared at the beauty before him with respect and handed her his ID. "Miss, he still hasn't applied to Mentor Lizami."
The fork paused halfway to her lips. She turned to Jake and asked, "Viyron?"
Jake nodded. "Not only that, but one guy from the family even saw him enter the castle this morning—"
Jake froze mid-sentence as he felt massive pressure on him.
Even though he had dark gold potential, he felt like an ant against Melina Admant's potential. It was like one command from her would be sufficient for him.
Thankfully, the pressure stopped immediately.
He sighed in relief and looked up only to see Melina smiling at her food while mumbling, "Interesting."
Jake gulped in fear. He'd seen that smile a couple of times before, and it always resulted in someone's life getting doomed.
Jake asked in a soft tone, "Miss, should I send someone to investigate?"
She set down her fork and leaned back. "Leave him be, Jake. Let's see what my dear brother is up to. I'll handle this myself."
Jake gave a quick bow and walked out.
He knew that being in the academy was the only thing stopping her, but it wouldn't be long before her patience ran out.
He stopped thinking about that and just closed the door as he rushed out of Melina's dorm.
If Xane were here, he would have recognized Jake as one of the elite who stood behind Melina during the contract signing ceremony.
Both Zayn and Xane's worst fears had come true while they were still snoring on top of their beds, unaware of anything.
…
After a couple of hours, Xane finally woke up from the shouts of his roommates.
He looked at them in irritation and was about to say something when Zayn's voice buzzed in his head. [Xane, leave them. We don't have time to deal with any of their nonsense right now.]
Xane looked at them one last time and just sighed. <Yeah, you are right. At least I don't have a headache, so it's fine.>
Zayn mentally nodded and switched to serious stuff. [Our first exploration of projection space was a complete disaster, man.]
<Yeah, I never imagined that all nine worlds would have dim colors. I think the very first planet we saw might be the best one.>
[Dude, not only that. Let's say if we start in the same place, then there will be just four grey dots that he didn't check this time.]
Xane rubbed his chin. <I don't think finding grey dots is that big of an issue. Some of the grey dots could be behind some other colored planets. It's just going to cost us a little extra time.>
Zayn corrected him. [Much extra time.]
Xane sighed. <Yeah, but the big problem was that we were only able to visit just nine worlds. At this pace, it might take us an eternity if we just blindly search all the grey dots.>
Zayn said in a dejected tone, <But what can we do? Didn't you hear Sir Xenor say that there is no other way to check the element purity of those worlds?>
Xane just rolled on the bed and stared at the ceiling, lost in his thoughts.
After thinking for a few minutes, he suddenly sat up and said, <Hey, I do have a theory that might work. You remember the time when both of us went in different directions?>
[Don't tell me you want to try that again and have us look separately.]
Xane shook his head. <No. Listen to me first. I clearly remember that from the first moment to when you came and merged, our soul ball had decreased the least at that moment.>
<Whereas whenever we moved closer to planets, there was a significantly bigger decrease.>
[Okay, but even if that's the case, it's not like we could tell the difference between two gold-sized balls. We still have to move close to those planets.]
Xane shook his head. <You may not have noticed it because you went in the direction with no grey balls. But I clearly remember that in my case, I could sense both the attracting force from the balls and the repelling force from the bigger dots.>
Zayn became silent for a bit and said, [Go on.]
Xane clapped his hands. <You see, not only that, I also sensed the pulling force of those balls was much higher than before.>
It hit Zayn as he said, [Wait a minute. So you're saying we can tell the purity of the world by measuring its pulling force?]
Xane nodded his head. <Yes. We already know that the size of the world has a minimal effect on the attractive force.>
<I mean, now imagine if we got in the same situation and one of those planets had mid-tier purity. I'm sure it would have much higher attractiveness than a low-purity one because—>
Zayn cut him off as he said the reason. [Because in the projection world, attractiveness is an element-based effect. You know what, Xane, this might work.]
Xane also added, <I mean, from our first exploration, I didn't find any way to stop midway while we were connected. So our ability to divide into two balls might help us in a big way.>
Zayn sighed. [Yeah, it's better than nothing. Let's try your method tomorrow.]
With that, both of them started discussing the nuances of how to execute that method while completely ignoring their other roommates, who were still going for each other's throats.
