Chapter 105: tril
Xane asked Zayn, [So are we just going to sit here?]
Zayn shook his head and took out the ID from his pocket. <Nope, it's time to find the solution to our problem.>
Xane asked in a serious tone, [And how are we going to do that? Do you know any way to resolve the problem?]
Zayn shook his head. <I do have some leads, though I'm not sure if they're going to work. Just wait, let me read a few things.>
With that, Zayn's hands started dancing on the ID.
Xane just stared in shock as the single screen split into multiple screens before his eyes.
It was like those screens on some of those advanced smartphones. He asked in shock, [How the hell do you do this stuff?]
Zayn continued to look through different screens and said, <Oh, the writer of this novel had this weird obsession with overexplaining how this ID works.>
<They spent like three chapters just explaining different functions of the ID, and the main character never even used most of them. I'm just trying a couple of the ones that stuck with me.>
Xane didn't know what to say to that. He just quietly waited for Zayn to choose.
Not long after, Zayn zoomed in on one page.
Xane read the title: [The Cursed Property of Mental Corrosion.]
<This is the cursed property that those from the Cursed Land of Chaos have to deal with.>
Xane looked at the massive page and complained, [Don't tell me you've read this entire thing.]
Zayn shook his head. <No, just focus on how the cursed property works.>
Xane's eyes moved around as he tried to find the relevant section, but there were just so many foreign terms that it all went over his head.
Not long after, Zayn leaned back. <So that's the case.>
Xane stared at the page and asked, [Okay, explain to me what we're dealing with.]
<Look at the fifth paragraph. Basically, every time we use our hex energy, it creates this chaotic fog. This fog then travels to our brain.>
<Once the fog surrounds our brain, it starts messing with our memories and creates horrible visions and stuff. It destroys the Hex Master psychologically.>
Xane read it through and asked, [Oh, so we just have to stop this fog from entering our brain?]
Zayn shook his head. <Good thought, but no. Look at the seventh paragraph—it explains that the chaotic fog is made of chaotic visions and emotions. That means this fog isn't something physical.>
<The more Hex Energy we use, the more of this fog enters our brain. After a certain point, the concentration becomes so high that we'll either be mentally dead or become mindless beasts.>
Xane quieted down and just stared at the half-empty classroom.
He saw a few students glancing at him, but he didn't care and just read through the rest of the chaotic fog explanation.
After going through the final details, he asked, [Okay, so how can we deal with this?]
Zayn tapped on the table and said, <Well, in the novel, most of the Hex Masters from the Cursed Land of Chaos used either a combination of the Core Art of Hex Delirium or the Core Hex Art of Somniomancy.>
Xane asked in surprise, [Wait, we can use multiple hex arts?]
Zayn rubbed his head. He switched to the introduction of hex arts. <I think you're misunderstanding something. You see, these 11 types of hex arts are theoretical concepts that complex hex arts are built on. You can think of them as the building blocks that form the actual complex hex arts.>
Xane just stared at the list blankly. [That went all over my head.]
Zayn paused for a bit and then looked toward the empty podium.
<Okay, let's take Miss Luna's blue fire hex art that she just used. That's a one-star hex art, which basically converts her hex energy into a fire glove that wraps around her hand. The name of that complex hex art is "Fire Glove.">
Xane asked in confusion, [Okay, then what is this Art of Hex Invocation that she talked about?]
<That's the category this hex art falls under. Most Hex Masters also call them the core hex arts. So, the Core Hex Art of Invocation is all about converting hex energy into an element.>
Xane asked in an uncertain tone, [Is it like the difference between the type of martial art and a specific martial art? I mean, like in martial arts, there are blade arts, sword arts, spear arts, and so on. Then within them, there's something like slashing martial arts.]
Zayn tapped on the table. <Spot on. It's just the same. If you combine different kinds of weapons, then that would fall under the Core Hex Art of Cursed Weapons.>
<If we focus our hex energy on the body with no weapon, then it becomes the Art of Fleshcraft.>
Xane said in realization, [In that sense, the martial art of slashing would be the complex hex art you're talking about.]
Zayn smiled. <That's perfect. Now, at the top, we have 11 core hex arts, and under each of them, we have major hex arts. I'm talking just about theoretical knowledge here.>
Xane thought for a bit and said, [Okay, so if we talk about the Core Hex Art of Cursed Weapons, then learning how to use hex energy with different types of weapons—like swords, spears, and so on—should be the second category, right?]
Zayn smiled. He really didn't know if he was just an excellent teacher or if Xane was naturally smart.
He mentally patted himself on the back and said, <That's great. So now, within each major type, there will be different minor types—like using a sword for different actions: stabbing, slashing, blocking, and so on.>
Xane glanced at the door as he saw both Liam and Samuel walking out of the class. [Well, if we're talking just about theoretical concepts, then sure. There are 11 core hex arts → their major arts → minor arts.]
<So what I've told you so far is a kind of knowledge base that includes all the possible ways we could use hex energy. The complex hex arts are just using this knowledge to form chants and spells to create actual hex arts.>
Xane thought for a bit and said, [Okay, by that logic, this Fire Glove should be based on the Core Hex Art of Invocation. Then the major art should be fire-related arts, right?]
<Nah, it would be more appropriate to say the major art is her Element Art. Even with the Hex Art of Invocation, you're still limited to the element of your hex energy.>
[In that sense, we can only use chaos-type attacks.]
Zayn nodded, <And yeah, the minor art category for Fire Glove is fire manipulation. So you're clear on what hex art is now, right?>
Xane paused for a bit, <I meant to ask you this—so Luna had the fire element, but what about the blue color of her fire? Was that related to her element, or is there something else involved?>
Zayn shook his head. <Nah, it's actually because of the property of her hex energy.>
<You see, her energy is more suited for freezing—that's why her fire is blue. In the novel, she's famous for her cold fire. It's very rare to find a fire-element Hex Master linked to the Ice Desert Cursed Land, you know.>
Xane mentally nodded. He was starting to understand what she meant by the five things that affect hex art. Just to be clear, he asked, [Zayn, what would happen if we were to use the same Fire Glove art?]
Zayn shook his head, <No, we can't. This hex art is built to support the fire element, so we can't use it.>
Xane cursed, [Oh fck. Don't tell me we're also going to face trouble finding suitable hex arts.]
<Oh, don't worry. There are like a million-plus hex arts. We're not going to face many problems with that.>
Xane sighed. [Oh, that's a relief. By the way, I was asking—let's say we do have the fire element, and then we use the same Fire Glove art. What would be the result then?]
Zayn thought for a bit and said, <Well, visually, we'd probably produce black fire. As for what other effects it would have, I'm not sure. Though one thing—when it comes to fire arts, no one matches those from the Cursed Land of Explosive Volcanoes.>
[Is that the one the House of Zenaris Master belongs to?]
<Yup. Their cursed property boosts the temperature of fire. If they use the same hex art, it transforms from a gimmick into a lethal hex art.>
Xane thought for a second and asked, [In that sense… is Luna weak? I mean, fire isn't suitable for freezing. Her element contradicts her hex property.]
Zayn waved his hand up and down. <I mean, you could say that—in terms of lethality, sure. But hey, the cold property of her fire makes it more suitable for other hex arts. It's all about what type of hex arts you use.>
<Also, don't worry. Her second basic element is water, and she also has the advanced element of death. If she were to use either of those, it might hurt the people sitting in the front row.>
