Chapter 103: The two villains
Only the constant tapping was audible in the silent classroom.
Xane just tapped on the bench.
Inside his head, Zayn had already stopped thinking about all the possible teammates and just stared at the empty seats around him.
Even though there was no one present in the class, he still focused on the center seat where Liam and his team members sat.
After a long time, he sighed. [Dude, if it were only Liam, then maybe it might be possible, but with the addition of Samule, there is no way for us to compete with them.]
Xane nodded his head. <What about the second slot?>
He was not brain-dead. When he heard about the top team and the 5 classes, he had his suspicions. But now he was sure that the 10-team slot was just an illusion. In reality, there were just 2 slots for each class.
Zayn smiled. [Well, if it were just the second slot, then I do have a few possible candidates in my mind. It's just that this entire team would only be possible if we manage to bring in both the death villains.]
Xane raised his eyes. <Death villains? You mean deadly villains.>
Zayn mentally shook. [Ah, well, they sure are deadly, but I am not talking about their strength, but the enmity they carry.]
Xane rubbed his chin. <Interesting, so who wants them dead?>
Zayn took his time as he was still not sure if he should involve them. But as the saying goes, beggars can't be choosers.
He knew without them, the chance of success would drop by 50 percent. He suppressed his urge and decided to leave the decision to Xane. [The first guy is wanted by one of the leading organizations, the Ashen Pact.]
The moment Xane heard that, he instantly thought of Uzino.
Zayn did not say the name, just continued. [Getting involved with that guy would lead to enmity with that big organization.]
Xane understood the danger of this hot potato, but he asked. <What about his strength?>
Zayn paused for a bit, then said, [During the first year, he could compete against Liam.]
Xane's mouth just dropped. <Wait, really?>
Zayn did not say further, just nodded. [Yes.]
Xane thought about all the information Zayn told him earlier, and he realized the scope of those experiments couldn't be limited to the physical body alone.
After all, for a hex master, Uzino without hex art was just a slightly stronger ant.
He also realized that all those experiments must have some effect on Uzino's ability to use hex art; otherwise, those from the lab wouldn't be that desperate about their failed lab rat.
He also realized another point: that while the difference between the potentials was huge, the same could not be said about the actual strength.
Right now, Liam was just a bit stronger than other first-year students.
It wouldn't be harsh to say that Uzino, who had a head start because of all those experiments, could compete against Liam. Though whether he could maintain that was another matter.
Xane shook his head. He instantly made up his mind that if possible, he would try his best to be part of the same team as Uzino. As for that enmity with the lab, he did not care.
He asked, <What about the second guy?>
Zayn shook his head when he saw Xane almost instantly moving to the second guy. He realized that Xane did not even bother to think about the consequences of having Uzino with them.
'Sigh, will there ever be a day when I could make a decision instantly?' Zayn stopped lamenting and said. [The second guy is wanted by the crown prince of one of the top Elven noble houses.]
<Crown prince?>
[Different houses have different inner systems. This noble house followed the royal lineage system. You can say the crown prince is the same as the position of young leader that Melina was competing against.]
This time, Xane grabbed his hair. <Wait, so the crown prince wanted to kill a guy from his family, despite that, this guy survived?>
[Oh, their situation is a bit special as this second person is the third prince of the same household.]
Xane shook his head. <What the fck!>
He rubbed his eyes as he thought about all the red-ear elves from the House of Blood Moon in his class. A couple of faces flashed through his head, including the guy who pointed out the flaw in Melina's potential, but then he instantly shook his head.
Something was not right. After all, if the House of Blood Moon followed the royal lineage, then others from the house should have to show respect to them.
It hit him that members of Blood Moon were more like the House of Zenairs. They respected high-potential individuals from their house, but it was the same as how those from the House of Zenair treated Melina.
There was respect, but it was for the potential, not the family lineage.
He sighed and asked, <This third prince is not from the House of Blood Moon, right?>
Zayn nodded his head. [Yup, the House of Blood Moon had a different hierarchy system.]
Xane nodded his head, but then he suddenly thought about the dwarf noble family. What interested him was that, unlike other families, there was only one dwarf from that family in their class.
He suddenly realized that there were actually descendants of 4 different noble households present in Class 2.
He asked, <At least give me a hint.>
Zayn just said with a smile. [Let's say you have seen this guy.]
Xane rolled his eyes. Didn't he just look around at everyone in the class before? This was the same as giving no hint at all.
He did not push further and decided to play along, as there must be some reason why Zayn was not revealing the names of these people.
So he asked the second important question. <What about his strength?>
Zayn did not think long and said. [Peerless talent with massive versatility. His potential was not high, but when this guy goes all out, he could compete head-to-head with everyone in the class. It's just in the novel he was a bit of a late bloomer.]
