The Crazy Adventures of Kevin

CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE: MYSTERIOUS MAN.

The group overlooked a cornfield with intricate patterns that seemed extraterrestrial. And as Gwen surmised earlier, they looked like circuit boards.

“Like I said, these aren’t crop circles. They are circuit boards.” Gwen said observing the field.

“I think this whole place is some kind of giant machine.”

And poorly made at that. ‘Well, I can’t say it’s all that bad, because of that orb, I know better ways to do this inconspicuously.’ Kevin commented in his thoughts.

“Hey, check it out.” Ben gathered the attention of the group as he pointed to a certain spot below them that was creating sparks.

“See, told you I didn’t do it.” The young Pyronite voiced his innocence.

“Let’s go down and take a closer look.” Ben asked as his hero senses began to tingle.

“Yeah… down is good.” The young Pyronite agreed since he wasn’t a fan of heights.

The group eventually got down and took cover from the crops and decided to scope the scene… all but the young Pyronite of course!

“What do you think they are doing?” The Pyronite asked out loud without bothering to take cover.

‘For goodness sake, you are walking lantern. How do I always end up with people that have zero stealth skills?’ Ben asked himself in thought as he couldn’t believe what was happening right now.

Kevin could only laugh and jest quietly about how the Pyronite was not only thirsty for his first kill but suicidal at the same time!

The group soon silenced his tomfoolery and got him to take cover.

They observed a person clothed from head to toe in highly protected and sophisticated gear that covered every part of their body as if they were looking for an unknown virus. The person was using something that looked like a metal detector that was sending sparks to create a foreign material that covered the ground wherever this person wanted it to cover until the person signalled to another wearing the same gear that the job was done.

The areas covered by this material soon lit up brightly after the signal which caused the group watching to widen their eyes in surprise, Gwen was correct!

A tower with disc layers broke the surface and began to extend to the sky to reach great heights. It would seem that whatever was behind this contraption wasn’t planning on hiding anymore.

Soon afterwards, sparks spread from the top of the highest building and into the sky causing snow clouds to form and gather.

The group walked out of their cover now to check things out properly, snow had started falling immediately and was pilling up on the floor. The Pyronite crouched to feel the snow on the floor but the snow in the path of his fingers melted. Kevin took the opportunity to lay another joke on the Pyronite by rubbing his hands over the Pyronite's head, which had a ball of flame as its hair.

“Cut it out!” The Pyronite exclaimed.

“My bad, it's cold out here. Learn to share, haha.” Kevin joked.

It was now the Pyronite knew Kevin was going to be doing this the entire time and wished for the mission to be over as soon as possible.

“The tower is some kind of weather machine.” Ben said remembering an event about a weather machine when he was ten years old.

As if on cue, the sheriff and his officers pulled over in front of the group.

“Alright, FREEZE!” The sheriff demanded, coming outside of his car.

“No kidding, we already got that covered.” Kevin saw another potential victim for his sarcasm. In truth, his body is constantly rebuilt after every cultivation session especially after his skeletal reconstruction using super dense crystals from his Crystalsapien transformation. So such things as this cold were nothing for him.

“I took it easy on you Alan, out of respect for your folks,” The Sheriff started as he made his way to the group.

“You built this machine! You’re stealing all the heat to feed your powers!” The sheriff finished his theory but the Pyronite still came forward to meet him to prove his innocence again.

“It’s not like that!” The Pyronite tried to explain but an officer stepped forward and showed him the end of his shotgun barrel.

“Trust me, you are giving the kid too much credit! If he could build this, he would… you know what, never mind.” Kevin added with a smile but gave up halfway.

“Stay away from the sheriff!” The officer demanded, training his gun on the Pyronite.

Sensing a murderous aura, Gwen looked around to find out where it was coming from and found out that Kevin was no longer standing alongside them and wondered when he left.

“I am getting tired of this.” Kevin said with narrowed eyes, as everyone present traced where that voice came from since it carried a heavy aura.

Everyone was surprised to see him floating above them with one outreached arm. With that sudden movement, the gun from the officer began to squeeze itself and the officer left it gun to take cover as it exploded.

“He’s one of them! They are all freaks!” The sheriff sounded panicked as he looked back to make sure his officers were okay.

“I didn’t know you could do that. Why didn’t you fly when we were checking out the place?” Ben asked, curious as to how Kevin could fly but still chose to drive as well.

“Yeah, is that the only secret you are keeping from me?” Gwen asked with a raised eyebrow.

“The ladies love a mysterious man.” Kevin replied, choosing to answer Gwen to flirt for a bit.

“Oh really?” Gwen asked but Kevin suddenly raised his arms and a dense dark purple crystal wall formed a defensive cover in front of the officers, breaking the ground in the process.

“Wha…?” The Sheriff wanted to ask but saw shots fired in the direction of the crystal wall that served as a good shield for them.

He protected us. How did he know we were about to get shot? Is he that fast? Is he one of them? An insider?

’ Thoughts went through the sheriff’s mind but was brought back to reality when an officer asked about him.

“What are you?!” The sheriff asked the intruders as he walked out from the crystal wall, but was met with more fire which Gwen intercepted this time with a shield of her own.

“I can’t take too many of these.” Gwen said as she looked up at Kevin who looked bored.

“You don’t have to,” Ben said as he switched the dial on his watch.

NEXT CHAPTER PREVIEW:

" Unknowingly, a murderous aura seeped out of Kevin as he picked out his targets. Even Ben could sense how heavy this aura was and leapt to Kevin’s side immediately and grabbed his arm even though it hurt him.

"Restrain them, do not kill them!" Ben commanded loudly and firmly.

"No one tells me what to do, especially you," Kevin responded calmly as he looked up at Ben in his Swampfire transformation. "
