The chance of a Lifetime

Chapter 4: Chapter 4 - Memories

--Kai POV--

Ever since I can remember, life was difficult for me. Perhaps if mother was with us then it would have been different. According to my Nana, my mother was a semi-famous model and could have been very successful today if she was with us. According to her, that's where I get my love for acting and the entertainment industry.

I never knew who my father was though. I could never ask mum as i could never speak to her and my Nana did not know anything about him either. According to her, whenever she asked my mother about my dad, my mother would just smile in a painful way and just say that he'll never be part of our lives. My grandma always hated him for it and maybe I do too in a corner of my heart.

But I was lucky to have such a strong parent figure in my life in the form of my grandmother. She taught me most of the things I knew and always preached the importance of being kind to everyone. Whenever I got bullied for my old clothes or my quiet demeanor, I used to repeat those words to myself. But one day when I was 10, things went too far and Tony, one of the bullies insulted my grandma. I don't know what happened to me but the next thing I knew, tony was cradling a broken arm and his lackeys were running away from me. The look of disappointment that Nana gave me broke me more than any other word and I swore to be better from that day.

Days were tough. Especially when she got sick and couldn't move around much. I did whatever possible to make due and keep the house moving. For me Nana was my whole world. I still remember the last conversation I had with her.

Flashback

Heather Jones, 68 held her grandson as he wept in her arms. She knew it was her time to join her beloved husband and her sweet daughter but leaving her precious grandson made her laugh at the cruelty of this world. "Kai. Look at me son." she urged him.

Young Kai just buried his face on her shoulder further. "Look at me. C'mon." The quiet of the night brought solace to both of them at this moment.

Kai slowly extracted himself from her embrace. Deep aquamarine met honey brown and Heather kissed Kai on the forehead with a motherly pat on his face. "Whatever happens, I want you to live your life the way you want to okay? Whether I am here or-" "You're not going anywhere Nana. Please don't go." whimpered the young boy with tears in his eyes.

Seeing this even Heather couldn't stop herself from shedding a few tears. She hugged him tighter and wished she could see him grow up to be the amazing man he could become but alas time wasn't on her side. "Whatever happens, promise me one thing Kai." Heather stated seriously. "Life is difficult. You'll go through a lot of challenges and there will be times that you will want to give up. But you need to keep moving forward child. Keep moving forward. Promise me that you won't ever give up on yourself."

Kai just hugged her tighter and sobbed. He felt that if he let her go, his Nana will be gone forever. Throughout his sobs he managed to nod his head agreeing to what she said.

Seeing this Heather smiled and held him close and she could see that young kai was exhausted from the entire ordeal. "Whatever you do in life, just know that I am proud of you my son." That was the last thing Kai heard before he fell asleep.

That was also the last thing his Nana had ever told him.

--Back to Kai POV--

Life got worse after Nana but I always persevered knowing that Nana was watching me. I became a model student, studied various languages including Spanish, French and basic Korean and worked as much as possible to gather the most money so that I could try and get into the entertainment industry. Never partied, never hung out with people because I wanted my dreams to come true and live how I wanted. Just like Nana wanted.

But now...

I don't know what to do
