The bully's redemption

Chapter 20: Detention!

Zelda leaned in with a playful grin. "You're just saying that because Xavier and Patricia are a thing."

Kamsi shook her head, her eyes narrowing. "It didn't seem like that to me. Patricia was clearly into him, but he just slammed the door in her face."

Zelda's laughter bubbled up, her amusement clear. "I wish I'd seen that. You look way too interested in his drama."

Kamsi shrugged, a hint of a smile on her lips. "Forget about it. Let's change the topic."

Later, in the midst of a dull class, Kamsi's struggle to stay awake was evident. She excused herself, heading to the restroom. A splash of cold water on her face revived her senses. As she stepped out, she collided with Patricia.

Patricia's eyes were sharp as she hissed, "Don't mention what you saw, got it?"

Kamsi's tone was casual as she replied, "It's none of my business. You don't have to worry about me."

Patricia's lips curled into a smirk. "Good. " But kamsi turned and added,"Maybe next time, show a bit more self-respect." Leaving Patricia gape.

Kamsi walked away, a frown forming as she thought, "Who does she think she is?"

Turning down the hallway, Kamsi nearly bumped into Xavier. His unmistakable scent and confident smirk made her pause.

Caught in his gaze for a moment, she was jolted when he teased, "Step aside, nudist."

Kamsi snapped back, irritation in her voice. "I told you not to call me that!"

Xavier chuckled, clearly enjoying her reaction. "Does anger suit you?"

Kamsi shot back, "Maybe other girls think you're cool, but not me."

Xavier raised an eyebrow, amused. "Other girls? What other girls?"

Kamsi rolled her eyes, thinking, "Such a self-absorbed jerk."

Xavier's amusement didn't fade. He glanced at the hallway monitor, Mr. Ralph, who was about to round the corner, and then turned to leave. "Let's see how you handle this," he said, before jumping out of the window.

Kamsi's eyes widened in shock as Mr. Ralph appeared, his voice booming. "Skipping class, Miss Chibuike?"

Before she could respond, he declared, "Detention, after school."

Kamsi's shoulders slumped in defeat. "But..."

Mr. Ralph cut her off with a stern look. "Back to class, now, or else..."

Kamsi hurried away, her mind racing. "This is all Xavier's fault. He made me linger in the hallway, and now I'm getting punished."

Zendaya's eyes widened as she took in Kamsi's glum expression. "You got detention? Why?" she asked, her tone a mix of surprise and concern.

Kamsi groaned, her frown deepening. "It's all because of an annoying monkey," she grumbled, her frustration clear.

Zendaya's face brightened with a reassuring smile. "It's not that bad, believe me! I've had detention a few times myself," she said, trying to lighten the mood.

Kamsi sighed, her shoulders slumping. "Ugh!"

At that moment, a wave of excited screams erupted from the hallways. "Aaaaaaaaaall! It's the star players!" The shrill cries echoed as Xavier, Damon, and Gilbert strode through the corridors in their sleek basketball uniforms, flanked by their teammates. The group commanded attention, heads turning as they moved with an air of effortless confidence.

Xavier's eyes caught Kamsi's, and a mischievous smirk spread across his face. Her own expression darkened, and she shot him a sharp glare, her frustration palpable.

Zendaya, clearly caught up in the excitement, exclaimed, "Today's basketball match is going to be epic, Kamsi!"

Kamsi forced a smile, her irritation barely masked. "It's fine. Enjoy," she said, before turning on her heel and heading towards the classroom.

As Kamsi sat through detention, her thoughts drifted to the much-anticipated basketball match between the Washington DC International Basketball Players, known as the Red Devils, and the Bellevue School District Wolverines. Xavier, the Red Devils' star player, was set to face off against Domino, the Wolverines' ace.

The gym was electric with energy as the game began. The stands were a sea of cheering fans, their roars rising and falling with the ebb and flow of the game. The Red Devils and the Wolverines clashed with intensity, each team pushing hard for victory.

Xavier was a whirlwind of movement on the court. His agility and precision were unmatched as he wove through the Wolverine defense. With every dribble and shot, he seemed to glide effortlessly, his teammates Gilbert and Damon working in perfect sync with him. They played with a rhythm that was almost musical—Gilbert making sharp passes and Damon providing crucial rebounds, setting Xavier up for a series of spectacular shots.

The commentators' voices crackled over the speakers, their excitement building with every play. "And Xavier takes the ball! Look at that move—what a spectacular drive to the basket!" The commentator's voice was filled with awe as Xavier made another flawless shot, the ball swishing through the net.

The crowd erupted in cheers, the stadium vibrating with the collective roar. The Wolverines fought back fiercely, but every time Domino tried to seize control, Xavier and his team shut him down with seamless teamwork and strategic plays.

"Xavier is simply unstoppable tonight," the commentator declared as Xavier scored yet another three-pointer. "The Red Devils are dominating, and it's all thanks to their star player!"

The game was a nail-biter, with the lead changing hands several times. But Xavier's determination and skill proved too much for the Wolverines. His final, decisive basket, made with mere seconds left on the clock, sealed the Red Devils' victory.

As the final buzzer echoed through the gym, the Red Devils erupted in jubilation, their fans celebrating their hard-fought win. Xavier was hoisted onto his teammates' shoulders, his grin broad and triumphant.

When detention finally ended, Kamsi gathered her things and trudged home, her mind still buzzing with the day's events.

"You're home late, kamsi," her mom said as Kamsi walked in, a hint of concern in her voice.

"Good evening, Mom," Kamsi replied, her tone weary. "I had detention."

Her mom's eyebrows lifted in surprise. "Oh, okay. What happened?"

Kamsi shrugged, trying to downplay her frustration. "It's nothing, Mom. Just a little misunderstanding."

But as she settled into her evening routine, Kamsi couldn't shake the mix of annoyance and grudge she felt for Xavier.
