Chapter 902: Ji Qian's Thoughts
"You already said it earlier, are you treating me like a fool." Dongfang Lian seemed convinced that Ghost was the culprit, determined that he was behind it. After all, Ghost mentioned before that Netherworld Palace had once suppressed Dongfang Jing's forces. To outsiders, Ghost's earlier words sounded more like an excuse to shirk responsibility in a critical moment.
He said he had oppressed her father just now and then claimed he didn't kill her father, which indeed sounded like evasion.
"Wait a minute, we really didn't kill him." Ghost hurriedly said, seeing that Dongfang Lian seemed ready to kill...
"At that time I just led people to suppress him a little, but didn't kill him." Ghost quickly said, but it seemed Dongfang Lian did not believe him at all.
"Now that my father is dead, of course whatever you say is what happened, and you still want to argue."
"I really didn't... what I said is absolutely true," Ghost said seriously, though it seemed only those from Netherworld Palace would believe him. Ji Qian appeared to have prepared everyone to defend themselves since it was an operation from two years ago; no one was in the mood to keep every detail—without evidence, merely words mean nothing. With Dongfang Lian in a rage, how could she believe it, and the fact she didn't charge forward immediately was already fortunate.
"Do you have any evidence?" Dongfang Lian's single question left Ghost speechless. Of course, he had no evidence. Even if he showed Dongfang Lian the operation log from the Netherworld Palace headquarters, she would suspect it of being "faked" unless there was video or photographic evidence of some kind.
"How could there possibly be evidence?" Ghost said helplessly, "Back then, I saw that your father was from Huaxia and showed some courage, so I spared him and let him go."
Surely, you can't let an enemy go and take a photo for memory's sake, right?
"Then just die." Dongfang Lian moved her body, dashing instantly in front of Ghost, swinging a dagger, fiercely slicing towards Ghost's neck, aiming for the kill. Ghost was taken aback, not expecting Dongfang Lian to strike directly, even less expecting such a seemingly frail woman to be so strong. He rapidly stepped back and just evaded the deadly strike, but Dongfang Lian took the opportunity to leap into the air and struck Ghost's chest solidly with a kick, instantly making him spit out a mouthful of blood.
Ghost was kicked away, and several Hidden Guards immediately protected him. Dongfang Lian's action shocked everyone present.
"Crazy woman, Hidden Guards to me." Seeing Ghost struck, the Short-nosed Crocodile couldn't tolerate it. He flared up at the fact that a proud advisor and the second-in-command of Netherworld Palace was hurt by the leader of a "revived" faction. The Hidden Guards were already poised to retaliate when Ye Shikai suddenly stood between them.
"Everybody stop!" Ye Shikai shouted loudly, separating the parties.
"Dongfang Lian, the matter isn't clear yet, isn't it a bit reckless to strike without distinguishing right from wrong?" Ye Shikai first addressed Dongfang Lian, then waved his hand to signal the Netherworld Palace people to withdraw.
The rain started with a few drops falling from the sky, turning into a torrential downpour within minutes. Everyone was now "drenched" in the rain; except for Su Ziqing and Wuyan, none had umbrellas. Ye Shikai and Dongfang Lian didn't have umbrellas either, so how could their subordinates?
"Cough, cough, this situation is a bit awkward, isn't it?" Ye Shikai lightly coughed twice, "Why don't we find a place out of the rain to talk?"
.......................................
"Boss, you have to believe me, I really didn't kill that Dongfang Jing." They found a cave where perhaps the chilling rain had gradually calmed both sides down. Ghost reiterated while proving his point to Ye Shikai.
"I believe you, but she may not." Ye Shikai said indifferently. Due to the weather, he instructed Wuyan and a few Hidden Guards to take Su Ziqing back to the base first. In the worst case, if they couldn't agree and it turned into a fight, at least she wouldn't witness any bloody scene.
"Come here for a moment." At this time, Ji Qian approached, speaking seriously to Ye Shikai while Ghost, understandingly, retreated.
"Is there something?"
"You've changed," Ji Qian's "stern" words caught Ye Shikai off guard.
"What do you mean by that?"
"Do you know how much trouble that woman has brought you? You clearly have the power, why not use more straightforward methods to resolve it?" Ji Qian's words were both understandable and perplexing to Ye Shikai.
"You're suggesting I should just eliminate them?" Ye Shikai replied with a wry smile.
"Isn't that correct? Qingqing almost got killed by her, and I heard from Wuyan that you were nearly killed too, right?" Ji Qian's words made Ye Shikai uncomfortable. Such a simple, brutal method, although effective, seemed indistinguishable from "indiscriminate killing" to Ye Shikai.
"This... might not be appropriate. It's all just a misunderstanding after all." Ye Shikai understood that lingering here with Dongfang Lian was futile. The best way to deal with someone wanting to kill you was to eliminate them first, and Ji Qian's thinking was correct; not just hers, possibly everyone in Netherworld Palace thought so too.
Dongfang Lian wasn't weak, and there was a possibility she could kill Ye Shikai. Ji Qian would never tolerate anyone posing a threat to him, even if it was all a misunderstanding.
"Dongfang Lian is not a bad person; she might want to kill me just because of a misunderstanding," Ye Shikai tried to persuade. If a misunderstanding could be avoided, he wouldn't start a fight, especially since it would result in more deaths on either side. Such revenge led nowhere; wasn't that exactly what Dongfang Lian was experiencing?
"Why can't you understand, why must you reflect and regret only after bad things happen?" Ji Qian seemed somewhat exasperated. Being the Main God, she could be ruthless and decisive when necessary.
"I won't regret it," Ye Shikai firmly said. If he just killed Dongfang Lian, there might be no immediate threat, but would someone come for revenge in the future?
Ye Shikai's idea was that if he could clear the air and find the real murderer of Dongfang Jing, it would be ideal. This way, he could turn enemies into allies, resolve a misunderstanding, and ease Dongfang Lian's mind. She could retain her current status at Yanjing University—since only Su Ziqing knew about this—and if she kept silent, Dongfang Lian would remain the popular, beloved teacher. Considering these points, Ye Shikai decided to take a chance and have a good talk with Dongfang Lian.
