Chapter 870: Troubled Heart
The newcomer tilted their head slightly, easily dodging the three darts from the female bodyguard. Luo Shiqi focused her gaze, realizing it was Nightmare.
Speaking of which, this was also the second time Nightmare had saved Luo Shiqi. Just like the last time, when she was attacked by Cheng Yi's betrayal and a group of gunmen barged in, it was Nightmare who saved her alone.
Ever since the attack on Su Qingyu and An Lan by the Mothman, Ye Shikai had ramped up protection for the women. Although Luo Shiqi had quite a few bodyguards around her, she couldn't let her guard down. After all, cultivators had already surpassed the limits of human capacity, and if it were a group of cultivators, then no matter how many bodyguards there were, it would be like a mantis trying to stop a chariot.
"Nightmare, how could it be you?" Luo Shiqi immediately recognized the young man in the white robe in front of her. She also knew he was a close confidant of Ye Shikai.
"The Netherworld King sent me to protect you. Didn't expect to stumble upon an attack," Nightmare said hastily. Gunfire continued, though it was obvious the guns were silenced. Fortunately, there weren't many pedestrians around; otherwise, accidental injuries would be inevitable.
"Be careful." Luo Shiqi nodded, pressing herself tightly against the sofa as bullets whizzed overhead.
Bam.
Suddenly, a dull sound came from under the car, causing it to shake violently.
"Miss Luo, the tire has been blown out. Please get out of the car immediately," the female bodyguard driving the car said at once, using the last bit of inertia to push the car forward some distance. Just as the car started losing momentum, she swiftly turned the steering wheel, guiding the car into an alley.
"Miss Luo, quickly get out." The female bodyguard rushed out, opened the car door, and escorted Luo Shiqi out of the vehicle.
"You both leave quickly, I'll cover the rear," Nightmare also got out of the car. They were at a corner, and the gunmen behind couldn't shoot over, but surely they had more tricks up their sleeves.
"Alright, you be careful." Luo Shiqi nodded, knowing staying would be futile and she would only be a burden to Nightmare. With a glance, she and the female bodyguard fled down the alley.
"Get them, they're right there." At this moment, shouts came from behind. Nightmare peeked out to see dozens of assassins armed with daggers charging towards them. As expected, they were here to assassinate Luo Shiqi.
Wielding two tridents, Nightmare stretched his body, preparing for another "warm-up fight."
"Chase them; they're in that alley." The lead assassin turned into the alley, colliding with Nightmare, who stood just a meter away.
Truly, 'a rendezvous at the corner.'
"Hello." Nightmare smirked disdainfully, said coldly, then thrust a trident forward.
"Kill him." The assassins froze momentarily, seeing Nightmare as a God of Slaughter standing in the alley.
"Kill." Nightmare sneered, moved swiftly, disappearing from sight. The tridents, like the scythes of the Death God, struck like lightning, felling four assassins who ceased breathing, deep blood marks on their necks, staining his white robe with blood. Nightmare was incredibly powerful, and most of the assassins in front were of Spirit Silence or Nascent Soul Stage strength, no match for him.
"Come again." Blocking the alley alone, Nightmare prevented the assassins from advancing, and soon more bodies littered the ground. Before long, the commotion would alert the police, and once they arrived, the assassins' plans would fail entirely.
"Block him, I'm breaking through." One assassin said coldly.
"Yes."
A group of assassins charged simultaneously, Nightmare parried with his two tridents. Meanwhile, an assassin slipped from the side, stepping on the wall to quickly break through past Nightmare, heading towards Luo Shiqi.
"Trying to escape?" Nightmare called out coldly, shouted loudly, and blasted the assassins before him away. He swung his arm wide, hurling a trident like an arrow, piercing through the fleeing assassin's back.
"Courting death." The trident pierced through the assassin's body entirely. Nightmare stepped back, kicked the assassin's corpse aside, and picked up the trident from the ground.
Just then, the sound of police sirens reached them from outside the alley. Apparently, the gunfire had been noticed and reported by a passerby, which might be for the best, as it meant the assassins would now have to retreat.
"Damn it, retreat." The lead assassin cursed vehemently. The others turned swiftly and leaped over the alley wall.
"You run fast." Nightmare remarked calmly. He too would find it difficult to deal with the police, so he quickly vanished from the alley.
....................................…
In Europe, near a manor, a man sat alone by the river fishing. Upon close inspection, it was none other than Ye Shikai. He hadn't lied to Su Qingyu; he truly was here to relax these past few days. After coming to Yanjing, he encountered many things, becoming too restless. Clearing his mind here was a good choice.
The manor housed only a few servants and chefs, specially arranged by Ye Shikai, as after all, "too many people mean too many eyes."
Ye Shikai had invited Ji Qian to join him. Perhaps due to previous issues, Ji Qian was hesitant, worried Su Qingyu might "catch" her again. Eventually, thanks to Ye Shikai repeatedly reassuring her it was to talk, and Su Qingyu's consent, Ji Qian came over.
"Are you facing some trouble? I don't recall you being someone who would easily fall." Ji Qian held a fishing rod. She didn't particularly like fishing, but she accompanied Ye Shikai.
"I had some conflict with Qingyu, but it's fine, we reconciled." Ye Shikai said lightly. Speaking of reconciliation, it was his personal feeling. After sending a message, he took a private jet back to Europe without even seeing Su Qingyu again, and was unaware of her current stance.
Looking at Ji Qian and at the scenery around, Ye Shikai recalled the time when he and Ji Qian were dating. There seemed to be fewer disputes then, perhaps because of their similar backgrounds as rulers in the Underworld, there were fewer conflicts between them.
"Couples quarrel at the head of the bed and reconcile at the end, it's nothing to fret over." Ji Qian gently advised. As Ye Shikai's "ex-girlfriend," her saying so might seem unsuitable, but Su Qingyu seemed not to mind her comforting Ye Shikai.
"Qian, I feel like a mess inside." Ye Shikai's troubled look made Ji Qian worry about what had happened in Yanjing.
"Then take a good rest." Ji Qian gently patted his shoulder and pulled out her phone to send Ghost a message, inquiring about the specifics.
