The Bodyguard King’s CEO Wife

Chapter 561: Return Home

Police station.

Ye Shikai never thought that there would come a day when he'd actually want to come here, especially since it was almost midnight, making the place feel somewhat deserted, aside from the on-duty officers. Today, however, a few "guests" were here.

Zhang Ting led Ye Shikai into an office, as there wasn't anything serious going on; it wasn't necessary to go to an interrogation room. As for Chen Ruoya, she was turned away by Zhang Ting.

"What exactly are you up to?" Zhang Ting poured a cup of water for Ye Shikai, asking curiously.

"Glug glug... It's complicated," Ye Shikai said, gulping down the water, showing a relieved expression as if he had narrowly escaped a disaster.

"Who is that woman, anyway? So rude," Zhang Ting complained with some dissatisfaction. Chen Yuxin's attitude wasn't very nice a moment ago, but who could blame her? Zhang Ting did interrupt something good for her, and with her status, she indeed had the capital to look down on Zhang Ting.

"She's my ex-girlfriend, from a long, long time ago," Ye Shikai said somewhat sheepishly.

"Ugh, what a jerk. Did you sleep with her, and now she's come looking for you?" Zhang Ting prejudged and mocked, "I always knew you were no good—truly a heartbreaker."

"Spit it out; I've been nothing but decent with her." Ye Shikai immediately retorted, "We haven't contacted each other for eight years. I didn't expect to run into her now."

"So, are you planning to abandon your wife and rekindle an old flame?"

"What are you talking about?" Ye Shikai couldn't understand why Zhang Ting always thought he was fickle. Was it just because he often had women around him?

"Alright, alright, continue," said Zhang Ting.

"Today, she almost kidnapped me," Ye Shikai whispered, afraid that Chen Ruoya outside might overhear. He had spent a long time thinking but couldn't come up with a more fitting word to describe Chen Yuxin's actions, so he settled for "kidnapped" for the time being.

"She can kidnap you, right on the main road? Do you think I'm an idiot?" Zhang Ting scoffed coldly.

"Really, I'm not lying," Ye Shikai hurriedly defended himself.

"So, what, are you planning to sue her?" Zhang Ting took a sip of her tea and said indifferently.

"Of course not, it's just some misunderstanding between us," Ye Shikai admitted, lowering his head sheepishly, "Take me home later, will you?"

"Ha, am I hearing this right?" Zhang Ting spat out her tea, "You think I'm your servant, to take you home?"

"No, just see it as serving the people, helping out a friend. At worst, I'll cover the gas money."

"Fine, fine, considering you helped the police with a case last time, I'll help you out this time," Zhang Ting said, resigned, as she took out a file from her drawer, "Take a look at this, it's about the recent murder case. Because of this case, the station has been all hands on deck, everyone's out except those on duty."

"Oh." Ye Shikai glanced at the victim's photo, feigning a calm demeanor, "With such a Big Formation from the police for a murder case, I guess the murderer will turn themselves in soon."

"It's like talking to a wall," Zhang Ting tidied up her desk and stood up, "Let's go, I'll take you home."

"Thank you so much."

.............................

All the way, Ye Shikai kept looking back at the traffic lanes on both sides. He was stopped in the middle of a main road just now, and it had left him somewhat traumatised, but after thinking it over, Zhang Ting was driving a police car, so probably no one would dare to stop them.

"What are you randomly looking at?" Zhang Ting sat in the driver's seat, casting a disdainful glance at Ye Shikai.

"Nothing." Ye Shikai closed his eyes and suddenly felt a wave of fatigue engulf his body, as if he had run a marathon. In reality, his body wasn't tired, but his mind felt tortured and exhausted.

Twenty minutes later.

The police car slowly entered the neighborhood. Ye Shikai finally breathed a sigh of relief—he was home at last. Glancing at his watch, it was already past eleven. He wondered if Su Qingyu had gone to sleep.

"Alright, you're home now. Your car has been towed away. Remember to come and pick it up tomorrow," Zhang Ting reminded him.

"Oh, okay."

"By the way, how are you going to deal with that woman from the police station?" The person Ye Shikai referred to was Chen Ruoya, who had accompanied him to the station.

"Of course, we let her go."

"Alright, goodbye then."

Ye Shikai fished out his keys and unlocked the door to the General's Family's residence. Sure enough, the living room was pitch-dark. The two women must be asleep by now. He tiptoed upstairs, slowly approaching the bedroom door, and gently pushed it open. In the tranquil environment, he could faintly hear Su Qingyu's breathing—she was already asleep.

Ye Shikai smiled slightly, chose not to turn on the light, and instead turned around to leave, quietly closing the door. He went down alone to the living room and lay down on the sofa. He didn't want to disturb Su Qingyu's peaceful sleep. Whether it was because of the many things that had happened today or the discomfort of the sofa, he tossed and turned for half an hour, unable to fall asleep. He turned on a weak light and lit a cigarette.

Chen Yuxin's appearance brought both surprise and shock to Ye Shikai, but her attitude and behavior were off-putting. With the wedding preparations underway, Ye Shikai had a vague sense of foreboding. Sometimes, he wished he could be a little more callous, so at least he wouldn't feel so guilty when rejecting a woman.

As these thoughts lingered, he gradually felt the heaviness in his head and drifted into a drowsy sleep…

"Brother-in-law, brother-in-law, wake up."

In a half-asleep state, Ye Shikai felt a touch on his cheek. It seemed someone was calling him. Struggling to open his eyes, he saw Su Ziqing leaning close, grinning at him.

"Qingqing, it's you." Ye Shikai propped himself up, having slept on the sofa all night. He looked at his watch—it was seven in the morning.

"Brother-in-law, why did you end up sleeping directly on the sofa?" Su Ziqing promptly poured a cup of warm water and handed it to him.

"I came back late last night and saw you were all asleep, so I didn't want to wake you up," Ye Shikai said, his complexion a bit pale, indicating he hadn't rested well.

"By the way, where's your sister?" Ye Shikai shook his head, curious.

"She's in the kitchen."

"Qingqing, come and have breakfast." At that moment, Su Qingyu just walked out of the kitchen. Seeing that Ye Shikai was awake, she quickly approached him.

"You really shouldn't have," Su Qingyu said, with a hint of complaint. "Aren't you afraid of getting a stiff neck?"

"You were sleeping so soundly last night; I didn't want to wake you."

"Seriously, go and wash up and have breakfast." Su Qingyu's tone carried a slight reproach, but most of it was happiness, as if she were a girl cherished by her boyfriend.

"Okay." Ye Shikai hurried to the washroom, planning to take a shower first. He took off his shirt. Just then, as he faced the mirror, he froze—there was a kiss mark on his neck.
