Chapter 348 Childhood Friend
Song Moxin returned to her grandmother's house, which was located in the Health Bureau compound.
As soon as she entered the courtyard, she saw her good friend Wu Fei.
"Wu Fei, you've finally come back for the New Year. I'm telling you, my elder brother is getting married the day after tomorrow, you must come."
Actually, Wu Fei was several years older than her. They weren't supposed to be childhood friends, but the Wu family was different from hers.
Both families were giants in the medical field, but in the Song family, it was only the old lady.
The Wu family was different. The whole Wu family, from the old man and woman, uncles and aunts, to the younger siblings, were all in medicine.
And each one of them was a leader in the medical field.
Wu Fei had a natural sense of superiority. When they were kids, who didn't look up to Wu Fei in this courtyard?
Following behind Wu Fei, she slowly transformed from a little tagalong into Wu Fei's good friend, not without a bit of her own ingratiation.
Seeing Song Moxin, Wu Fei wore an unhappy expression.
She pinched her little nose.
"You, when inviting me to your brother's wedding, you're still wearing this unhappy look. What, you don't want to invite me?"
Song Moxin sighed, venting her bitterness.
"Sister Wu Fei, it's not that I'm unhappy to invite you to my brother's wedding. You don't know how much it means to have you there. Wouldn't it bring honor to my brother? What's bothering me is that Song Moting is back again.
Whenever he comes back, as you know, he takes away all the affection from the grandparents. I'm completely dissatisfied with him."
Wu Fei was stunned, Song Moting is back?
Then Jiang Xiaoxiao should also be back.
"So Song Moting is back, seems like he should have brought his wife with him, right? Is he back for good this time, or just for a holiday? Is he going to attend the wedding?"
Wu Fei returned home to find herself harshly lectured by her parents, understanding well that her own temper was truly spoiled.
That day, Song Moting and Jiang Xiaoxiao were really kind to her, yet she still threw a tantrum. Why bother?
One must consider whom they act superior to.
That day, even though Song Moting and Jiang Xiaoxiao snapped at her, upon reflection, the only people who could help her then were them.
They helped her without holding grudges, which indeed deserved her gratitude.
There were moments she couldn't overcome her pride, everyone tried to curry favor with her.
Yet, Song Moting, who grew up with her, didn't acknowledge her at all.
He even brought back a wife with the same bad temper as his.
Sometimes it was merely her spoiled temper acting up against them.
In truth, she wasn't a bad person.
Now hearing that Song Moting was back, she really wanted to meet Jiang Xiaoxiao.
After all, she owed Jiang Xiaoxiao an apology.
Moreover, from the bottom of her heart, she admired Jiang Xiaoxiao, who possessed a pride and confidence she never had.
Jiang Xiaoxiao didn't have a prestigious family background, yet she managed to live like her.
Living in a way everyone adored, became everyone's darling.
In this respect alone, Jiang Xiaoxiao was more successful than her.
"Who knows if Song Moting will show up? You should know his bad temper, liking to go against my dad and my brother. I bet he won't come. How could someone with his character bow to us?
Attending my brother's wedding would be the death of him."
Song Moxin and Wu Fei went their separate ways, their families not in the same building.
Wu Fei waved with a smile, "Come over in the afternoon to shop with me, let's pick out a wedding gift for your brother. Knowing your brother is getting married, I certainly can't go empty-handed."
Song Moxin was moved, if Wu Fei attended, it would represent the Wu family's stance.
It would only benefit her brother, not harm him.
"Who are you? You're a childhood friend of my brother and me, even if you come empty-handed, it's still an honor for him. If he dares pick on you, I'll deal with him. Also, why don't you ask your parents to come along too? I'll bring over the invitation later."
The Wu family wasn't easily swayed.
Only the Wu family judged others; they were proud people.
Uninterested in such social niceties.
Wu Fei shook her head, "I don't even know if my mom and dad have the time, you can bring the invitation over, but if they have surgeries lined up, they probably won't make it. You know how busy they are, appointments have already been scheduled into next year. They make every 24-hour day seem like 48."
One's own parents, one surely knows them.
Song Moxin laughed, "I'll send it over anyway, if they're busy, that's that, but if they have time, it would be an honor."
They bid farewell.
Wu Fei entered her house to see her grandpa in a daze.
"Grandpa, what happened? Why are you sitting alone in the living room lost in thought, where's grandma?"
The old man saw his granddaughter and smiled, "Old age makes one think of past events. I'm just sitting here daydreaming. Your grandma is sulking in her room. You should go comfort her."
Wu Fei smiled and agreed.
Surely the old man and old lady had another argument, the two of them acting just like children at times.
She went upstairs and opened her grandma's room door.
Sure enough, grandma lay on the bed, back facing the door—a classic sign of being angry.
Quietly sneaking in, she approached grandma from behind, extending her hand, trying to spook the old lady.
"Feifei, don't scare your grandma, her old heart can't take it."
The old lady had long recognized her granddaughter's footsteps, and knew the old man had surely sent her up to coax her.
Sitting up, Wu Fei was taken aback by her grandma, such a robust old lady, yet she had been crying.
Why was grandma crying?
What did grandpa say or do to offend grandma so?
"Grandma! What happened? What did grandpa do? Tell me! I'll stand up for you."
Since her childhood, she was closest to grandma, who had raised her, so she was always willing to confide in her.
The old lady shook her head, "This is something you can't help with. Your grandpa's stubbornness won't change. He won't stop until he's driven me to death."
Wu Fei consoled her grandma until she smiled again.
Wu Fei finally breathed a sigh of relief.
After lunch,
Song Moxin came over to see her, bringing the invitation.
Her parents weren't home, and she wasn't sure if they'd be back that night.
The two of them went shopping, spending a good half the day picking out a gift.
Wu Fei generously bought a pair of watches as a wedding gift for the couple.
