Chapter 3: Marry the Mayor's Daughter
The car Serena occupied came to a halt in front of a huge mansion and Serena sat until she was ordered to come down by Devin. Her madam had warned her to be on her best behavior and that was what she was doing.
She alighted from the car, her eyes searching around to find her father's business partner but he was no where in sight not even the car he was in.
"Follow me," Devin ordered and began walking without waiting for Serena. They walked through the entrance door, climbing flights of stairs that eventually led to a long hallway before they finally settled in a room.
Devin didn't enter, rather he made way for Serena to enter, "This will be your room until whenever." His tone was curt and before Serena could form a question he had already shut the door and stormed off, leaving her question to travel back to where the almost erupted from.
She turned away from the door, making her way further into the room as her eyes took in the masculines tones it was decorated in.
The room was dead with it's grey and brown colours. There was nothing in the room, except a single bed, a closet and a door she believed led to the bathroom.
Her legs had grown numb from standing at a spot since morning and she itched to rest for a while. She looked towards the bed arranged with white beddings. She had never had to sit and sleep in a comfy bed like that back at her father's house and she believed she shouldn't soil the bed with her body and clothes.
She opted for the floor, resting her back against the wall as she brought her knees up to her chest, burying her face between them.
*******
Marcellus was sitting in front of his old man. His eyes were red with anger, fist clenched beside him, his breath growing heavy furiously.
He was currently in his old man's study room. He didn't leave for his mansion after he left the Jenkins' mansion. He went straight to the mansion he hadn't once stepped a foot in since he had turned 18.
"What are you going to do about the matter, Marcellus? The media is slowly turning against you and the boards are starting to think you aren't the right person to be the chairman."
Marcellus knew that, he didn't need his old man to say it to his face. "You said you had a solution for the crisis and I have spent-" he paused, taking a glance at his watch for a second before looking back at his old man. "5 minutes in your study room and you haven't yet said a thing. You have five more minutes remaining before I stand and walk out of this place."
"You have only two options that can easily wipe off your current bad reputation. The first one is by stepping down from the chairman's position. It is clear that whoever is attacking you doesn't want you to be the chairman and also when you do so, the media will see that you are not a person that is hungry for power-"
Marcellus held up his hands, stopping his old man from spilling any more words.
"You see that's where you are wrong, grandpa. I am hungry for power and I will eliminate anyone that stands in my way. Even if it is you." He tired standing up from his seat before his old man's words stop him.
"Don't you want to hear the second option? It simple." He didn't wait for him to answer and told him what the second option was. He told him that he had to marry the mayor's daughter. At least he would have more power and the media wouldn't see him as someone who was inhuman and didn't care about his workers.
"Hell no! I'm not getting married to that fucking leech and trollop." If Marcellus was angry before, right then he was a million times madder and furious.
"That is the only way to solve-"
"That doesn't solve my problems grandpa. It doesn't reveal who wants to bring me down and stop me from inheriting my rights!"
"I never said it would, I said it would clear off the bad reputation you have from the media."
"I don't fucking care about my bad reputation. It doesn't matter as long as it doesn't fuck up my power and soon it will be cleared from the media. Coming here was a fucking mistake, I don't intend on making suck mistake again."
He walked away from the study room, shutting the door with a loud thud.
Right outside his old man's study room, he met Michael in front of the door.
"Ohhh, never knew you came back to the house, nephew. You should visit often. How have you been?" Michael, his uncle, tried touching his shoulders but he shifted, avoiding him like a plague and walking out without speaking to him.
Marcellus drove back to his office. He was determined to solve this problem within three days. Whoever that had been murdering his workers should pray he doesn't get to him,her or them. Whoever they are, they should be scared because Marcellus would get them and fuck them up in the worst possible ways.
*****
It been two nights since he had stormed off from the Molinero's mansion. He hadn't slept a wink and had been focused in his office, dealing and finding out who dared mess with his company workers.
For two days he hadn't eaten anything only staying hydrated with water. Since there was an inner bathroom in his office, even a little closet there, he showered and changed his clothes within those two days.
Today, was the third day and he was finally close to getting the person. The CCTV at his club was obviously destroyed even the one at his hotel. The killer was smart and moved past the guards smoothly without being caught. Thankfully, each of the workers carried a little camera attached to their name tag that caught a video of the killer but the problem was that the killer's face was covered with a ski mask.
Marcellus ran his hand over his hair as he waited for the last report from Devin.
They had not pinpointed who the killer was but they had observed that there was a snake tattoo that was on the killers neck. At first that was what it looked like and that was what it was until they found the same tattoo at the same place on some thugs. They had been arrested for smuggling drugs and trafficking little children.
It was pretty fucked up, but at least, they found out that the tattoo was an emblem for people who belonged to the 'snake gang.'
For a few months now, they had been making a lot of noise and causing a lot of problems for the police who had not been able to locate their location.
Marcellus had power, and people everywhere. As long as he had found out that the killer was a member of the 'snake gang' getting their location was like a piece of cake for him.
He glanced at his watch, it was past 5'pm. Everyone had left to their various homes.
Just as he was about pulling his phone to call Devin, his office door swung open revealing the devil.
"What the fuck kept you so long?" He shouted, collecting the report from his hands.
He opened the file, seeing the faces and information of each person that belonged to a member of the snake 'gang'. He flipped through the files, reaching the last paper that noted the location of their hide out.
"Hire some men. We leave tomorrow night." He ordered Devin, expecting him to leave and do as he had always done - obeying his words.
"Why are you still standing?" He quirked an eyebrow at him.
"It's the girl you took as collateral from the Jenkins'.
"What about her?" He wasn't interested to know what his collateral was doing in his mansion. He had no need to hire someone to look over her. She was a grown adult and can help herself back at his mansion.
"She hasn't left the room since the past two days and hasn't done anything since today."
"And how do you know that and why do you care? She isn't supposed to do anything by the way. Just eat, sleep and walk around the house waiting for instructions or waiting to be back at her house." Conversing with Devin about a female that was useless to him even as a collateral was infuriating him.
"I installed a camera in front of the door. I don't care about her in the slightest just telling you what I noticed about her. And when I said she hasn't left or done anything, I meant it literally. She hasn't eaten or left the room."
"When she is hungry or wants to leave the room she will. Nothing is stopping her from doing so. Now, get back to work, Devin, and don't report anything about her to me again." His tone sliced through the air like an icy wind.
Without being told twice, Devin scurried out of his office with long strides.
Marcellus mind kept on drifting to what Devin had told his about his female collateral.
'Why hasn't she eaten? She haven't left her room? Isn't she bored and hungry?' many questions rode his mind as he kept on thinking about her. But he wasn't going to care about her. He never cared about what happened to his opposite gender. Whether they were dying or not he didn't care and he wasn't going to start caring about his female collateral.
He walked towards the little bedroom in his office to rest a bit.
Despite pushing away the thought that Serena looked broken and fragile like a damaged porcelain, she never left his mind. Instead, it came back tormenting him twice as much until he fell asleep with her still in his thoughts.
