The Beginning Adventure of the New Monarch

Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Seizure

Illuminated by the dancing flames, the silhouette of the man stood out with striking intensity. Cloaked in a dark coat, his face concealed by a dark raven mask he seemed to emerge from the shadows themselves.

A long sword rested on his back and an aura of cold, oppressive menace surrounded him, chilling to the core anyone who dared meet his unseen gaze. Ethan narrowed his eyes warily, his survival instincts on high alert.

— "Who are you? A mercenary? A royal agent?" he hissed, gripping the hilt of his dagger tightly.

The intruder remained silent. The quiet was heavier than the most explicit threat. Then, suddenly, in a flash, he drew his sword and lunged at his enemies.

His precision was relentless. Every movement was calculated, every strike delivered with perfection. In mere seconds several of Ouroboros' henchmen fell, disarmed and powerless against his extraordinary skill.

Diarfor, the warehouse's leader, watched the scene in disbelief. Initially frozen by shock, he instinctively stepped forward without fear. However his cunning mind, quickly took over and a contemptuous smile stretched across his lips.

— "You think you can intimidate me? You're just one man against my troops!" he sneered arrogantly.

He was about to give an order, but his voice died in his throat as fifteen masked individuals emerged from the shadows forming a disciplined line behind their captain. The man in black, impassive, straightened and pointed his sword at Diarfor. His deep commanding voice cut through the silence:

— "My name is Katran, Captain of the Shadow Raven, sent by decree of the royal family. Diarfor, Ethan, as members of Ouroboros, you are sentenced to death for conspiracy against the kingdom and alliance with the nation's enemies."

A shiver ran through the ranks of Ouroboros' soldiers. Panic was visible on their faces. Ethan felt his blood turn cold. How could this man know about Ouroboros? And why act now? Thoughts whirled in his mind, but he had no time to dwell on them. Diarfor, on the other hand, burst into laughter, shattering the palpable tension.

— "It doesn't matter whether the royal family knows or not. We have the power to crush them!" he roared.

With a swift gesture, he gathered a magnetic energy in his hands. A flash of adrenaline lit up his gaze as he shouted:

— "Firesphere!"

A massive fireball burst from his hands, roaring through the air like a hungry predator, hurtling toward Katran and his men. But the Shadow Raven did not falter. In a split second, Katran and his allies scattered with supernatural agility.

The fireball struck a pillar, exploding in a shower of burning shards and plunging the room into infernal chaos.

The battle erupted with ferocious intensity. Ouroboros' soldiers clashed with the Shadow Raven agents in a deadly dance.

Swords clanged, spells flew, and cries of pain were drowned out by the clash of weapons.

Ethan ever the strategist seized the confusion to slip away into the shadows. His survival instincts took over—this battle was already lost.

No matter the cost he had to preserve Ouroboros by informing the other leaders of the situation.

— "I need to get out of here…" he muttered to himself before vanishing into an adjacent alley.

Meanwhile Diarfor stood his ground, determined not to retreat.

But Katran advanced slowly, his sword emitting a cold glow. Panic began to crack Diarfor's confidence. He hurled several offensive spells, but none had any effect.

Katran deflected each magical attack with disconcerting ease, moving inexorably forward.

Just a few meters from his opponent, Katran stopped. Diarfor panting and out of breath, attempted one last desperate attack summoning his remaining strength. But Katran with a fluid and precise motion cut his adversary in two. Diarfor collapsed his eyes wide with disbelief, his arrogant laughter silenced forever.

Katran sheathed his sword without a word. Around him the Shadow Raven agents having dispatched the last of Diarfor's men, regrouped. The warehouse was plunged into a morbid silence, broken only by the crackling flames.

— "Search the area," Katran commanded firmly.

The agents spread out inspecting every corner. They uncovered incriminating documents, crates filled with stolen goods, and illegal substances. The scale of Ouroboros' crimes was overwhelming.

Katran observed the evidence with cold calculation. Then, he turned to his men.

— "Burn this place down. Let the ashes bear witness to Diarfor's fall and his crimes."

Without hesitation, the agents lit torches and set the warehouse ablaze. The flames spread quickly consuming the wood fabrics, and everything in their path. The building became a colossal inferno, casting a fiery glow into the night.

The members of the Shadow Raven left the scene in silence, their mission accomplished. Katran was the last to depart. He turned one final time to watch the burning warehouse, his eyes fixed on the stars shining above the black smoke.

— "This is only the beginning," he murmured.

He knew that although Ouroboros had been struck at its core, it was not entirely defeated. Other leaders would take measures to retaliate. The kingdom must remain vigilant but for now however they had achieved a decisive victory. The ashes of Diarfor would serve as a warning to all who dared conspire against the kingdom of Ednia.

As the team disappeared into the shadows, one word echoed in Katran's mind: justice.
