Chapter 98: Cured
Hayden placed his palm over her sternum, channeling his Aura in a controlled pulse.
Of course, he was still incapable of releasing his Aura outside his body… However, he could still affect her physique if he channel his Aura into his palm and press it on her with a controlled rhythm.
"Ghk—!" Her back arched as his energy disrupted her Mana Veins. This disruption caused some reaction and it clashed with the toxin, forcing it to concentrate in one area—her left arm.
It was also thanks to Hayden's acupuncture skills as the needles helped him guide the flow…
Soon, the veins there turned black and swollen.
"Last step," Hayden warned. Then—
He sliced her forearm open, letting the poisoned blood drain out…
"Aacckk…"
She finally gasped in pain, before collapsing… She was completely motionless for a few moments as it was a very painful experience even for her. She wasn't used to this kind of pain at all.
Nonetheless, her breathing was now steadier and the violet hue of her skin had faded.
"Haa~ You'll live…" Hayden said with a sigh of relief.
He then wiped his hands and removed the needles from her body…
"But you've lost too much blood. You need rest."
The magician stared at him in disbelief. She couldn't help but be impressed at the kid since aside from consuming the antidote or a strong potion, she had no way of removing that potion.
Perhaps, if she was a three-circle Mage, she might be able to do something about it with Mana but at this time, it was impossible for her.
"You're… weird… You're not a random Squire. Who are you?" She said after realizing that Hayden's skills weren't something a kid who was ten years old or so, should have.
Hayden chuckled at this since he knew how awesome he was. Perhaps, he would also have the same reaction if he saw a kid capable of curing someone from a deadly poison. Furthermore, the Aura he had shown was definitely sensed by the Magician.
"I'm just a student aiming to become an Aura Knight. And you're not just a fugitive, right? Now—about that reward you mentioned."
She then considered for a moment as she didn't think of any reward just now and just blurted it out.
"Do you have any talent as a Magician? Even just a little?" She asked.
She noticed that Hayden was practicing with the sword after seeing his callouses, physique, and the sword he was carrying.
If Hayden had a slight talent to sense Mana, she could probably help him a little to become a Magic Swordsman.
It was a profession that most Magicians with terrible talent in Mana would attain to have. They may be incapable of releasing large amounts of Mana but with the sword and other weapons, they could become a perfect Close Combat Mage.
"I was tested before… I was told I don't have any talent. Uhm… About that result… Do you think that result could change?" Hayden asked as he really considered being tested again.
After all, the test came before he had entered this body. Perhaps, he would have a different result if he got tested again.
However, the Academy doesn't have any method to test him and it was quite expensive, so he couldn't do it even if he wanted to.
This time, however, he had already saved up enough money and if he wanted, he could visit a Mage Tower to be tested.
"I've never heard anyone getting a different result after getting a second test. Unless you consume some kind of miracle medicine, then you'll be stuck on that." The woman replied as she reconsidered the reward she'd give. After all, she didn't want to send her savior empty-handed.
She didn't want to just promise to help him in the future as it would eat away at her conscience.
"Fine…" She had finally decided.
She then reached into her robes with trembling fingers. What she pulled out made Hayden's breath catch.
It was a beautiful crystalline orb. It was small and inside the core was like a swirling liquid lightning.
"Beast Core… From a five-horned Storm Vole…" she whispered. "Rare. Worth a fortune. And… Ahh… Since you're in school. You should know its value."
She then tossed it to Hayden, as she thought that Hayden would be very happy to this core.
Of course, Hayden was definitely glad to have it. It was from a five-horned Magic Beast after all. Though he couldn't imagine a vole having five horns and a fist-size Beast Core, he knew that the magician didn't need to lie to him.
"This is great… But if this was found on me, I might get involved in your matter. Is this the thing your enemies were looking for?" Hayden asked.
The magician smiled weakly and shook her head.
"It's a great item but not worth mobilizing five Aura Knights. The poison used on me is probably more expensive than that core… Just consider it… a down payment. I'll find you again once I recover and settle my matters."
"You don't even know me… How can you find me?" Hayden asked.
"You're a student at Dawnspire Academy, right? I can tell from your emblem, Elite Squire…" The magician said as she started feeling comfortable speaking.
"I owe you my life. When the time comes… I'll repay it. My name is Louella... Remember it."
Then, before Hayden could react, she vanished—not in a burst of magic, but just in a cloud of smoke…
"Louella, huh…"
She didn't even bother to ask his name!
Hayden stared at the empty space where she'd been while holding the Beast Core…
What the hell did I just get involved in?
But as he pocketed the core, a smile spread across his face.
A magician's favor.
A rare core.
And another reward in the future. It was definitely not a bad result.
For now, though, he had an Academy to return to. He no longer wanted to stay in this city.
