The Aura Ascendant: A Knight's Unbroken Path

Chapter 68: The Missions

Headmaster Mensa then placed the two pendants on the desk—the bronze Squire's insignia and the silver Aura Initiate's mark.

The two looked so enticing but Hayden held his urge to take them... In the end, he simply used his Ocularis Lens to observe them.

'They have strange energy within them… Is it enchanged by magic?' Hayden curiously thought.

This wasn't just a random guess since even if they couldn't use magic, they could still use items that were enchanted by magic. As a matter of fact, many powerful Knights would actually hire Magic Crafter to create their swords or gears.

Of course, that would be extremely expensive, but once you become an official Aura Knight, it will be easy to obtain such items.

"You've earned both titles, Hayden… I won't be asking the details but I know that it's related to the Aura Crystal we gave you…" Mensa said with a low voice…

"But before you can take the two, you should know what each one entails."

Hayden nodded at this as he didn't have a full idea of what responsibility he would take once he obtained them. He only heard a few things about them.

Seeing Hayden's nod, Mensa pushed the bronze pendant forward first.

"As a Squire of Dawnspire Academy, you will receive a monthly stipend of 8 Dawn Points. You could use the points to access some advanced combat training that Apprentices could not have. You could also have the right to take on some special missions for the academy, and some others."

Hayden's nodded slightly as he heard this…

'Eight points a month? I didn't hear any of that from Henry.'

In any case, that was certainly a lot considering Apprentices could only earn 2 or 4 Dawn Points. They even had to do some missions. He certainly liked this benefit since even without doing anything, he would be able to earn Dawn Points he could spend on various things.

"Ahem… What kind of missions will be available, Headmaster?" Hayden asked.

Mensa smiled as if he had been waiting for that question.

"There are three tiers of missions—each with increasing difficulty and rewards. The first tier is the lowest tier and that is the only tier an Apprentice could take. The second-tier and third-tier are for the higher-ranked students.

'So there's actually a higher tier. It wasn't mentioned by the administrator before.' Hayden thought, referring to when he was promoted to an Apprentice.

Then, at this time, the Headmaster simply gave Hayden a paper with a list of information.

Well, it certainly made sense since this way, they wouldn't have to repeat the same matter to the students.

Hayden was then given some time to read the paper.

The first tier was actually Academy Duties where you could earn 1 to 10 Dawn Points depending on the type of mission.

[ Academy Duties ( 1-10 Dawn Points ) ]

[ Guard Patrols – Protecting the academy grounds from intruders or rogue beasts.

Training Assistants – Helping instructors supervise younger students in combat drills.

Library Archiving – Organizing and transcribing rare combat manuals or Aura theory texts. ]

It was quite straightforward. However, with so many students willing to take on these missions, it was understandable why the reward was low.

Hayden also remembered that Phoebe was actually an assistant of a professor helping with some paperwork.

Hayden then continued to read for the Tier 2 missions

[ Regional Assignments ( 15-30 Dawn Points ) ]

[ Escort Missions – Safeguarding merchant caravans or noble envoys traveling through dangerous territories.

Beast Hunts – Eliminating monsters that threaten nearby villages.

Supply Retrieval – Gathering rare herbs, ores, or enchanted materials for the academy's alchemists and blacksmiths. ]

"Escort missions and hunting beasts?" Hayden repeated as he read the paper.

"Yes… They can be accepted by Squires and Aura Initiate…" Headmaster Mensa replied.

"Oh? Then how about Knight Candidates?" Hayden asked.

However, at this question, the Headmaster looked at him like he just said something ridiculous.

"If you're already Knight Candidate, you have most likely spent more than a decade reaching that amount of Aura to get to that level. You should've graduated already."

"Ah…"

Hayden paused as he realized that this was indeed the normal case for Knight Candidates.

Even Roan, his eldest, wasn't able to become an Aura Initiate at 20 years old. Of course, Roan might've awakened already after being here for a couple of years, but he was still more than twenty years old already.

This time, Hayden was only nine years old!

It should indeed be normal that Knight Candidates should be at least in their twenties.

After that, he finally glanced at the highest tier which was restricted to Aura Initiates only.

[ Knightly Trials ( 30+ Dawn Points )

[ Dueling Champions – Representing the academy in sanctioned matches against rival schools or wandering warriors.

Ancient Ruin Expeditions – Retrieving lost relics or knowledge from forgotten Aura Knight strongholds.

Aura Mastery Quests – Investigating disturbances in the land's harmony, often linked to dark cults or rogue knights. ]

'These quests looked interesting.' Hayden mused as he read them.

The Dueling Champions must be related to the upcoming tournament or competition. There could be other events and it was quite exciting to think about it since he was curious about the trainee knights of other academies.

To be specific, he was curious about their sword techniques and breathing techniques. After all, the foundations of knights could be entirely different depending on which school they attended.

Perhaps, he would be able to gather more information if he watched or participated in some of them with the help of his Lens.

Seeing that Hayde already finished reading, Mensa spoke.

"Completing these missions will not only earn you Dawn Points but also a reputation. The more you prove yourself, the more privileges you'll unlock—private training with special Aura Knights, restricted weapon techniques, even political favors from noble houses."

Hayden nodded at this as he could easily imagine the opportunities it would open up for him.

A lot of things could happen.

As he was considering these things, the Headmaster slid the silver pendant forward.
