Chapter 141: The Wind Magician
Perhaps because Van wasn't rich, he felt that the materials they left behind were wasteful. No matter how rich the Archmage Family was, they shouldn't ignore the resources they could easily get on the road.
'Is this a noble thing? Are they too proud to collect those resources?' Van mused.
In the end, he could only shut his mouth, even though he would be willing to collect the cores and their parts if he were ordered to do so.
After all, they were trained by the Obsidian Tower to do so. Although the training was theoretical and they were only using dummies, he felt like he could do it easily with his Ocularis Lens helping him.
Nonetheless, as Van was still thinking about the wasted resources, the Butler glanced elsewhere as if he had detected something outside.
It was at this time that Van also started paying attention.
'This…' Van realized something was off.
The carriage had barely traveled another mile when the horses reared again. They also felt something dangerous coming their way, and the coachman had to calm them down.
There was strange pressure coming from afar that made Van's skin prickle. It was definitely a stronger threat this time…
'Are we being targeted?' Van couldn't help but frown.
Butler Judge's eyes narrowed as well.
"This is no coincidence." He muttered.
Before anyone could react, the trees at the edge of the path splintered… It was torn apart by two creatures charging into the open.
They were Three-Horned Magical Beasts.
This time, they were unlike the Lynxes. These creatures were larger, furred titans with hides like steel. They had three distinguishable horns, their claws destroyed their path, and their saliva was dripping from their fangs.
'They're hungry…' Van thought as he saw the two Magical Beasts.
Julia's eyes went wide as she recalled these creatures from the books she read.
"Those are—"
"Stay inside," Butler Judge said as he was already prepared to help the coachman if he ever needed help…
Van's Ocularis Lens, on the other hand, already started scanning the creature to find it in any records he had browsed before.
Soon, his Lens found a fitting image of the creature from the records.
[ Three-Horned Ursa Beasts.
Mana Signature: Earth/Fire Hybrid.
Threat Level: Extreme.
Recommended Action: Immediate Evasion—]
The recommended action was only if he was facing it alone. However, since he wasn't alone, there was no need to escape, as he believed that the Coachman and the Butler had tricks up their sleeves. This shouldn't be their first time encountering such a problem…
"I'll take care of it." The coachman said before he started moving.
He leapt down from the driver's seat, rolling his shoulders as if loosening stiff muscles.
The Ursa Beasts were obviously unafraid, seeing the lone man coming at them. Their horns even started pulsing as if they were charging up their energy..
The first Ursa swung a claw the size of a short blade…
Bang!
The coachman sidestepped, and the ground where he'd stood exploded into rubble.
Before the beast could recover, the old coachman covered himself with Mana Barrier to block the rubble flying at him... Then, he used a Wind Spell, and it seemed to have been cast by his leg…
Van witnessed how the coachman kicked the air, and it created a blade of wind slicing deep into the Ursa's arm!
'Whoa~'
This was completely different from the Spellcasting that he was aware of… This coachman wasn't just a simple Wind Magician at all.
The Ursa then roared in pain, but the wound sealed almost instantly! The flesh knitted together in just about 10 seconds or so…
Regeneration.
'That's a Three-Horned Beast for you…' Van.
The second Ursa flanked him, its horns ignited as it unleashed a fire breath attack.
The coachman crossed his arms, and a cyclone barrier erupted around him, deflecting the flames—but the heat still scorched the earth black.
Van's fingers twitched. If he's just a Two-Circle, this should be beyond him.
Yet the coachman wasn't done.
With a sharp inhale, he clapped his hands together.
"Storm!"
Just like that, the sky answered.
A tornado with destructive wind descended, ensnaring the first Ursa. The beast howled as the vortex ripped into its hide, peeling back layers of its flesh. But the second Ursa was smarter as it dug its claws into the earth, anchoring itself against the gale.
Then—it roared in defiance!
The Ursa stared at the Coachman with almost bloodshot eyes. Furthermore, it started emitting a strong killing intent as it endured the tornado that the coachman summoned.
Julia gasped as she also felt the killing intent despite not being the target of it… The pressure was unbearable for a moment before Butler Judge acted and protected her from the killing intent.
As for Van, he simply endured it with his Aura protecting his mind.
The coachman, on the other hand, showed why he was part of the Archmage's servants… He didn't hesitate as he continued with his attack.
As the tornado weakened, the Ursa immediately made its move and pounced on him!
However, the coachman dove straight under it, slamming a palm against its chest!
"Piercing Gale."
With this move, a spiraling lance of wind burrowed into the beast's core—then detonated.
Boom!
The Ursa's body ruptured from within, chunks of flesh and broken horn raining down.
The remaining beast that was previously trapped in the was already too weak, and the regeneration could no longer keep up…
There was no way the coachman would allow it to recover, so without hesitation, he used another Wind Blade to cut off its head…
Thud!
The battle just now seemed easy, and the Three-Horned Beasts looked really weak. However, Van knew that it was only possible because of the coachman's incredible ability and piercing power.
If it were another Elemental Magician, they would surely have a hard time dealing with his hard defense…
They were simply unlucky that the coachman's Wind Spells had such an incredible, piercing power.
The coachman exhaled as he tapped his back for a bit, as if this battle made his back ache..
'Well, he's probably a bit too old for these consecutive battles…' Van commented in his mind.
