Chapter 92: In The Shadows, 3
The ghouls entered the house and split ways, one went into the top of the stairs, and another went into the kitchen, they were so focused on trying to find the hiding livestock, which does not exist, and not knowing they were fooled by a stone. Greed overtook them, that they have not noticed the third shadow in front of them, when they entered through the door.
Quagmire brought his right foot forward and entered through the door. He turned his face from left to right, observing the movements of the two ghouls. Once he saw the two ghouls split up, his smile turned even more terrifying. He let go of the ghoul that went up, opting to wait for it to come down and attack from there.
With a few meters of distance, he walked with utter silence, just barely following the darkness that permeated through the house to further hide his presence. His ears perked up. When he heard a sudden noise, he glanced from right to left, then to the top and to further confirm his suspicion, another loud sound came.
The ghoul at the top seemed to have smashed some furnitures, but that is not his problem yet, and so he followed the ghoul in front of him, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike. The ghoul walked ever slowly, and once it arrived at a door, it once again raised its foot, and with a force of a thunder kicked the crap out of the door, the door instantly crumbled, with its part flying away.
Upon seeing the events transpiring, Quagmire took the chance and immediately dashed, with his heavy footsteps being masked by the crashing of the door, and within a short while he was mere inches behind the ghoul. Glancing over at the ghoul, it has not noticed the presence behind it, but, it would not last long, anyway.
The ghoul raised its foot and was about to step inside when suddenly its vision darkened and lost control over its limbs. It tried to alert the other ghoul at the top, but no matter how hard it tried to open its mouth and scream, or even move its throat, it was not able to, it found it difficult.
Unfortunately, all of it happened in just a span of a few moments. Once a second had passed, it lost all life and in the arms of Quagmire; it lay lifeless with its eyes open.
Quagmire stretched his fingers and brought up his hands, and saw the state of the ghoul. Feeling pity, he brought it down again and closed its eyes. He did that as a form of respect, not to the ghoul but what this ghoul was once was, a person like him, though of a different kind, nevertheless a person nonetheless.
Once a breathing and living person, but was then revived by a cruel disease, that erased all of its memories, and granted it immortality that could only be killed with a strike to the head, and an insatiable hunger for the living flesh along with intelligence.
An incredible insult to all living being, and to the creators of the world. Whatever it was, whoever did this, must pay for daring to do something against the natural order of things, and of the laws of the world. There are just something that are similar to different dimensions and natural laws and such are included.
It is after all, a form of progress for the sentient beings, and so it all follows a natural order and conclusion of existing things. With that in mind, Quagmire closed its eyes and dragged the body inside. He glanced through his surroundings and found that there is only a single point of entry inside the room with the broken door.
A perfect place to hide the corpse. As he was bringing the body inside, his eyes perked as he heard a sudden movement, tracking the location of the echo. It was coming from the stairs.
With incredible haste, he lowered the body and with silent and precise steps; he was just able to make it in time to hide behind a set of table and chairs. Just in time, as the other ghoul was coming down the stairs.
With his eyes overlooking at the top of the table. He observed the movements of the ghoul. First, the ghoul stopped at the bottom of the stairs and waited. When it got impatient, it looked over the surroundings, and when it was about to turn in the direction of Quagmire.
Quagmire immediately made an adjustment, to move in the darkest part of his location, all the while being able to maintain his sight at the ghoul. The ghoul stopped in its tracks at his direction, and suddenly his heart started to beat faster, as sweat started to form and hold his breath.
Fortunately, he made no movements, and it took him with the force of a mountain to stop the sweat from falling down, all the while sweating profusely. The ghoul turned in another direction, unsuspecting of anything,
After looking over its surroundings, the ghoul started walking all over the place, visiting rooms to rooms, and after a few moments passed by, it now headed towards the destroyed door. Once he saw what the ghoul was about to do, Quagmire silently trailed.
The ghoul arrived at the front of the destroyed door, and just from its vision, there was no other ghoul inside. Suspicious, it went further inside. Once it stepped inside, it saw the corpse of the other ghoul; the ghoul was utterly shocked, as anger begun to boil in its cold, rotten heart.
It was about to let out a thunderous roar, unfortunately, before it was able to do it. Its vision darkened, and its life force was snuffed out. The ghouls were incredibly foolish; they did not even realize that the third ghoul was gone, and was replaced by another. They were overcome with incredible greed, unbefitting of them.
Quagmire repeated what he had done to the ghoul earlier, and with a satisfied pleasant smile, he moved out of the house and continued on his patrol.
