Chapter 88: Guns Blazing
With the heart rapidly pounding, the increase of blood pressure as the adrenaline starts to quickly kick in, along with the onset of the fight-or-flight response. With a firm, heavy forward step, Quagmire made a decisive decision, and that was to hold his ground and fight the ghouls of this fallen fortress.
A twist of joints and the forward ankle. He turned around with the pistol at hand, and he walked forward. The ghoul that was butchering, shocked by the alarm, but did not dwell on it, was suddenly put in a state of shock once again when a person belonging to another race, of which he had no idea, appeared before him.
Unfortunately, before the ghoul could dwell on such thoughts, the strange being raised its right hand, and the ghoul opened its mouth in an attempt to screech, but before it even happened, a hole appeared above its head. Behind the ghoul, a crimson painting of a rose colored flower appeared.
With the sound of a thud, the ghoul fell to the ground lifelessly. The nearby myriads appeared befuddled with their mouths left agape. Whilst the nearby ghoul roared in anger, which was to the annoyance of Quagmire.
He changed position and realigned his hands, and with a quick flick of a finger and multiple hand movements, he was able to fire multiple bullets in rapid succession, all the while maintaining absolute precision.
Not only that, since he have been in numerous life and death situations, his accuracy have repeatedly improved to the point that his shots is always a bullseye, though there were instances where he misses, and those kinds of situation are not usual, and so with a few flicks, he has taken down more than eight ghouls in rapid succession.
Unfortunately, looking at his current situation, he would have no choice but to remain in this location for the meantime, as this battle would take a long time to fight, and not only that, the sun is now about to go down.
Quagmire, meanwhile, noticing the stares of the people of this world, glanced at his side to stare back at them. He had always been curious about the people of this world, and he was immensely curious, and just by looking at them, it seemed not to have been a disappointment. There was quite a diversity of them.
There were those who looked human, but with animal traits, and some who were completely animal, like lizards, a giant panda, and those who closely resembled of humans, but they had pristine white skin, just like those of white gold from his homeworld, theirs ears were pointy, yet their bodies seems to be sculpted out of heaven, he was fascinated it was as if his breath was taken away.
However, that is not the problem right away. With a shake of his head, he changed the magazine in his pistol and dashed towards one of the alleyways. With quick and firm steps, he made sure to increase the distance before the next engagement. So that the people he has saved would not be attacked or be involved in the next engagement.
He stared at them long enough to understand the trauma and fear hidden deep within them; they were scared and were pushed back into a corner without a way out. An utter defeat, and judging from their clothes, they seemed to be people of this fortress, as their attire varied widely.
From armour sets to tattered clothes, to high-quality ones, they were all lumped together without prejudice, as they would all be devoured, anyway. After all, death chose no sacrifice. Everyone is treated fairly and just as they are all livestock, and livestock are livestock, just food, hierarchy does not matter, money and power do not matter, social standing does not matter, they are all equally food. Thankfully, they were saved from the grueling fate.
Almost immediately, the myriads stood up and started to find spots where they could weather the storm that was about to come. All the while, sounds of gunshots reverberated throughout the distance, which struck fear into their hearts. Slowly but surely, they covered their ears and selves in fear.
Quagmire dashes through alleyways to alleys. Once a few ghouls appeared before his path, he raised his right arm, placed his left hand just below the pistol, and pulled his fingers. The shot went in a blast of fury as it struck down the ghoul. he readjusted his aim, once the bullet casing was ejected, and another was replaced inside. he pulled the trigger once again.
The second ghoul that blocked the path was taken down, and as he was moving his feet, he felt strange, and with his instincts moving at lightning speed. Quagmire jumped and rolled forward. Once he stopped, he dashed to a nearby wooden barrel, and once he looked at where he was, there was an arrow stuck just at the opposite side of it.
The structures were rumbling intensely, and with a decisive action, he grabbed a few stick grenades and with a pull of a wire, the casing was gone. He threw numerous grenades like a proficient grenadier at the houses he had passed by.
With a roaring thunder, the grenades exploded and the structures of houses crumbled, as it was consumed in a sea of fire. However, that was not enough, as he needed to cause more chaos to direct their minds into thinking wrongly and into confusion.
Right now, in any engagement he encountered, there were no survivors. Soon, he was able to shake off his enemies and hide in a nearby establishment, and from there, he brought out his bolt-action rifle. From here on, he watched as the ghoulish army fell into a state of confusion, and from there, he laid down his rifle.
His breathing slowed down, and like a feline that is about to pounce on its prey, his irises shrank down, and his focus increased. Once a target was confirmed, he pulled the trigger, and a fiery flash came, and once a moment passed by, only the remains of a lifeless ghoul remained.
