Chapter 20: Nivara
Lyra's POV
Selena stormed into the room, her face a mask of fury, and it felt like the air around us grew heavy with her anger. Her burning gaze locked onto Kael, completely ignoring me as if I wasn't even there.
"She has a wolf?" Selena's voice was sharp, accusatory. "All this time, you knew and kept it from everyone? Is that why you brought her into the main villa?"
I froze in bed, my heart racing as her words sank in. I tried to keep my expression neutral, not wanting to give anything away.
Kael didn't respond. He simply walked over to Selena and grabbed her arm firmly, attempting to steer her out of the room.
"Not here," he growled, his voice low and dangerous.
But Selena wasn't having it. She yanked her arm out of his grip, her eyes blazing with fire.
"I know what her wolf is," she spat, her tone dripping with venom.
Kael's expression darkened, and he moved fast, clamping his hand over her mouth.
"Shut your mouth, Selena," he warned, his voice like ice.
She slapped his hand away, glaring at him.
"I've had someone watching you," she said smugly. "You've been acting suspicious ever since she came. Someone saw you the day of the incident—carrying her wolf to the infirmary. Do you have any idea what kind of danger you've brought into our pack?"
Kael's growl reverberated through the room, deep and furious. His wolf was dangerously close to the surface now, and I could feel the tension radiating off him.
"How dare you have me watched?" he demanded, his voice filled with barely contained rage. "You've crossed the line, Selena, and I won't let this go."
But Selena didn't flinch.
"You can pretend all you want, Kael, but you know exactly what kind of wolf she has," she said, her voice rising. "A reincarnation of them—the Nivara. Do you really think that's safe for any of us?"
Nivara? Hope stirred, but she remained silent, as if listening carefully. My mind reeled, trying to grasp what Selena was talking about. I had never heard of this before, and judging by Kael's reaction, it wasn't something to be taken lightly.
Kael's anger finally boiled over. He grabbed Selena by the arm again, dragging her toward the door with enough force to make her stumble.
"You're done here," he snarled.
Just as they reached the door, it flew open with another loud bang. Ava stormed in, Kellan trailing close behind. Ava's voice shot out before either of them had a chance to take in the scene.
"Kael, don't you think you're being a little cruel?" she snapped, her frustration clear. "You shut us out of your head and refused to let us see Lyra. Do you have any idea how worried we've been since the accident? We were out of our minds, and you just left us in the dark!"
Kael barely spared them a glance, still focused on getting Selena out of the room.
"You have five minutes," he said coldly. "Lyra needs rest. If you stay longer, I'll make sure you're both kicked out."
Ava rolled her eyes, clearly unimpressed. "Oh, come on, Kael," she muttered.
Kellan, standing just behind her, scoffed.
"Five minutes?" he repeated mockingly. "You're really pulling the Alpha card on us right now?"
Kael ignored them, finally shoving Selena out of the room and slamming the door behind him. Silence fell, and I let out a shaky breath, unsure of what the hell just happened.
Ava rushed to my side, her face pale and eyes wide with worry. She grabbed my hand, holding it tightly as if she was afraid to let go.
"Lyra," she said breathlessly, her voice cracking.
"How are you? Are you okay? I was so worried—I was scared out of my mind. You don't know what I went through these past few days. I tried everything to get to you, but Kael made sure I couldn't see you."
Her words came out in a rush, and I could see the guilt written all over her face. I gave her hand a reassuring squeeze, managing a soft smile.
"Ava, it wasn't your fault," I said quickly, cutting her off before she could spiral further.
"I mean it. I really liked the view there—it was beautiful. You shouldn't blame yourself for anything."
Ava's eyes welled with tears, and she opened her mouth to argue, but Kellan spoke up from where he was standing, his voice low and filled with concern.
"Are you in any pain?" he asked, his piercing gaze locking onto me.
I blinked at him, surprised by the intensity of his question. I tried to lighten the mood, flashing him a playful grin.
"Well, I feel like I've been hit by a train, but other than that, I'm great."
He didn't laugh. Instead, he gave me a serious look, his jaw tightening.
"I'm genuinely worried about you, Lyra," he said firmly, his tone leaving no room for doubt.
His sincerity caught me off guard, and I stared at him, my eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Why?" I asked, my voice soft but filled with curiosity. "I barely know you, and you don't know me. Why would you care so much?"
Before Kellan could respond, Ava stepped in, her tone almost defensive.
"Because he's a good person, Lyra," she said quickly, looking between the two of us.
"And he's not the only one who cares. You scared all of us. Kael may act like he has everything under control, but he's been on edge since it happened. And me? I thought I was going to lose my mind."
Her words hung in the air, heavy with emotion. I glanced at Kellan again, his concern still evident in his eyes.
However, I couldn't shake Selena's words from my mind. Nivara? What did she mean by that? And why did she call me a danger to the pack? The way she spoke about Hope—like she was something vile, something to fear—sent a chill down my spine.
I glanced at Ava, who was still sitting by my side, chatting lightly about how the entire pack had been on edge after the accident. Kellan was leaning against the wall, arms crossed, but his gaze stayed fixed on me.
Would they react the same way Selena did when they find out about my wolf? Would they see me as a lurking danger also? Am I going to be tossed out just like my old pack did?
