Chapter 233- The Bandit Hunting Mission (2)
"I'm fine. The training was just a little bit too tough on my body, but it's rewarding in itself, too. Although it has just been a day, I can already feel my body adapting to the pressure."
His wife's face was all bright as she excitedly told him about the training.
"I see, why don't you take a bath, and I will get the food ready on the table?"
"Yes," saying that, Delicia headed for the bath. When she came out, the food was already prepared on the table and Karl was waiting for her.
After the light breakfast, the couple went out to the market to buy some stuff for their new house.
"Done," Karl spoke, coming out of the merchant's guild. "I have sent a request to pack and bring our stuff back from the village. It should take around three days".
The couple were already preparing for their new life in the city.
When evening arrived, the two of them arrived at the mansion to receive the treatment. Karl watched on from the side as his wife received the healing massage from the Governor. It was still painful for her as she screamed out quite a few times, and her body, which was pinned under the man, would squirm.
He would try to peek to see if his wife was alright every now and then. However, it would just so happen that the Governor's arm or his back would block that area, causing him to be unable to see anything.
And so after the light treatment, the couple would walk back to their house. While walking back, he noticed that his wife was preoccupied with something and her eyes filled with the light of yearning.
"Something on your head?"
"Eh? Ah, no… I was just thinking what we should have for dinner?" She quickly changed the subject and walked ahead.
The upcoming days were hectic and fulfilling for Karl. With their luggage and belongings appearing from the village, the unpacking and everything fell all on his shoulders. His wife would be too busy with her knightly duties and would always be tired after coming back.
Karl had no complaints with his current life which was not much different from what it was in the village. If there was anything, it would be that he was missing his friends from the village.
"Well, I can just make new friends." And so, Karl was slowly getting used to his new house husband life in the city.
A couple of days passed by just like that. On this day, his wife informed him about a piece of news.
"What? You will be away on a mission?"
"That's right, it's a mission given to me by the Commander. Don't worry, it's not a dangerous mission. Besides, I am just a backup; the main force for this assignment will be a group of knights and squires. I was added because I need to get myself familiar with missions again," Delicia explained.
Nevertheless, Karl was still worried "How long will this mission last?"
She thought over it for a while before answering, "Since it's a mission to exterminate the bandits' camp from the main roads, it shouldn't take too long, probably three days".
She had gone on such missions before too, when she was in the Silver Shields. However, after retiring, it had been so long that her body had completely forgotten how a real combat felt like.
She needed to get in touch with such situations and awaken those instincts and techniques she had mastered many years ago. Commander must have also realised this, which is why he gave her this mission.
"B-Bandits? Aren't those people dangerous? You said that the mission isn't dangerous." Karl freaked out.
What might register as dangerous to a former knight might not be on the same level as an ordinary human. To the former kind, bandits were no different than a [D] rank monsters. Just slightly more intelligent.
"Ah, even if there are bandits, you don't need to worry. A knight would also be going with us".
After quite some insistence from his wife, Karl finally calmed down a little.
.
The next day, at the crack of dawn, Delicia appeared in front of the city where the members of the Temple of Light were waiting for her.
Waving at her with lively spirits was a black haired young boy, probably fourteen or fifteen years old. Beside him was a noble looking girl around his age.
"You guys are here so early?"
"Hehe, I couldn't sleep last night after hearing about the mission."
The boy was honest to a fault and a little funny. The noble girl simply huffed and bickered with him whenever she got the chance.
"Are these all the members?" She remembered there was supposed to be a knight leading the team.
"Ah, Senior Vangeance and Rolan have gone to get our warhorses".
As soon as he said those words, she could see the person he mentioned, bringing the warhorses from over the distance.
There were five, one for each of them. Delicia looked at the one assigned to her and felt its powerful breath. How long has it been since she felt a warhorse and rode on top of one?
Excited, her body reacted on its own as she quickly mounted it.
"Before we leave the city, let me explain about the mission. Our target is highway bandits who have been reported attacking and looting the passing carriages of merchants and nobles. A request was also raised in the adventurer's guild. However, every time the bandits see the adventurers coming, they flee into the mountain"...
"According to the reports from the latter, there has been a sighting of a settlement of bandits deep inside the mountains. Normally, the adventurer's guild ought to be enough for such a task. However, the client also asked for the aid of our Temple of Light, specifically"...
"As it turns out, a family member of a high ranking noble has been kidnapped by the bandits. Our role here is to infiltrate their base and save the hostage at all costs".
