The Adventures of an Overpowered Knight in Another World

Chapter 214- Thread of Truth

Of course, Karl had no way of knowing that and could only think of it as water.

"Maybe someone sprayed it. Why don't you ask your wife?" Reinhardt spoke, his words contained multiple meanings.

Delicia blushed in embarrassment at those words and hurriedly came up with some excuse to fool her husband.

"It's sweat, honey. The treatment made me perspire a lot".

"This much?!!" Karl was stunned; the whole floor of the room shone brightly, indicating that sweat had soaked the entire area. How could someone sweat so profusely?

"It's sweat, don't make this embarrassing for me. Besides, don't you sweat more than me?" At those words, he laughed awkwardly. Indeed, he did perspire a lot. He asked a silly question.

"Alright, I'll leave the two of you two your own devices. The treatment scheduled for tomorrow will start at the same time" Saying that, Reinhardt stood up to take his leave. He only took a few steps when he remembered something.

"That's right, village chief, can you get me more of those Myrrh leaves?"

"Eh? Did the governor like my gift?" Not expecting to get a positive nod, Karl was quite surprised. The next second, he beamed with happiness and thumped his chest.

"As I told you, it's an excellent pain reliever. Our village has been using it for many decades now. Anyway, you want more Myrrh leaves right? Leave it to me, there are plenty of them in the jungle. Since it's a wild plant that does not need any care to grow, the jungle is filled with it. It will be no problem to give you some".

Reinhardt nodded and made a deal with the village chief. Every month, the latter would send large quantities of Myrrh leaves to him through a carriage, and he would buy them for money.

Karl didn't want to take money at first; however, at his insistence, he relented to taking just two gold coins. The worth of the Myrrh leaves wasn't much in the market, and two gold coins were already way beyond its worth.

"Take it, just think of it as me repaying you for the great service you did for me."

Reinhardt was talking about the hidden value of the Myrrh leaves. However, because he had phrased his words too vaguely unintentionally, his words sounded as something else, especially to a certain woman inside the room.

She interpreted his words as him thanking her husband for leaving the room earlier.

"Great service? Delicia, what is the Governor talking about?"

"Haha, who knows? Lord Reinhardt is a pretty busy man. Let us not hold him back any longer".

Karl was confused and Delicia didn't provide him any information either.

"By the way, your food just fell on the ground. Should I get you another portion from the maids?"

"No, there is no need. I'm not really hungry." His wife shook her head, showing no interest in the food. If she was not hungry, then why did she make him go out of his way to prepare and bring the food for her?

Though he wanted to complain, but after seeing the glowing face of his wife and an actual happy smile on her face, he didn't have the heart to.

His wife was finally freed from the burden she had been carrying for all these years. He wanted her to relish in that feeling and hope some more.

"By the way, I feel very out of place here. This luxury and the servant taking care of our every need. It feels quite awkward," Karl scratched his ears.

"You won't believe what happened when I went to the kitchen. All the servants and maids bowed to me, heeding all of my words as if it were their master's orders. It's quite weird, do all guests here receive such treatment, or is the lord Governor treating us differently?"

At these words, his wife made a strange expression and blushed again.

"You are thinking too much. Why would he treat us differently?"

.

.

The place was a forest right below the snow capped mountains in the extreme north. A young man could be seen howling and yelling through the darkness of the night.

As the place was quite near the snow capped mountains, traces of snow could be seen accumulating over the trees and grasses on the ground. Vapour exuded from the body of the young man who had been out here training since the morning.

"Again, I will not give up. This time for sure!"

The young man with black hair and an ordinary face was none other than Kevin. After having his dream shattered like that and running away from the morning training, he had been here training nonstop.

"I cannot stop. Must go on…" The boy's voice had become quite sore and husky from all the shouting he had been doing since the morning. Yet even while coughing up blood, he did not show any signs of stopping.

"Master, I will definitely find you…"

His vision blurred for a second, and the scenes of him training under his master near that dingy shed surfaced in his mind. Just when he was starting to get immersed in it, the scene disappeared like a dream.

When he came to himself, he was back in his forest, practising the skill.

"[Radiant Ascension]" His throat gurgled. However, as if to say even the gods themselves have turned their eyes away from him, the skill did not activate.

At this point, Kevin had become too lethargic to this. His hollow eyes simply stared at the darkness without feeling anything.

Not far away, spying on that state of his was a fifteen years old girl with rose gold hair. It was none other than Gwen. At this moment, she was covering her mouth, her eyes teary from seeing her friend torture himself.

She had been trying to find him everywhere around the city; however, with no luck. It was only in the late evening when she was informed by some local woodcutter that he had seen the boy going into the forest early morning.
