Chapter 1168: Leaving the Capital
The daily argument at the Hong Family started again, but the children were used to it.
However, unlike in the past, today Aunt Hong had some confidence and did not compromise.
Shu Yu said farewell to the Hong Family and took Gouwa back to the small courtyard south of the city.
Old Doctor Zhao and Zhao Xi had already brought the horse carriage to the alley entrance, waiting. Upon seeing them return, they waved, "Let's go, we're about to depart."
There were two carriages; Shu Yu, Gouwa, and Ying Xi sat in their own carriage.
Zhao Xi drove the other one, taking Old Doctor Zhao directly out of the city.
It was Gouwa's first time riding in a carriage; the swaying made him a little scared.
Luckily, the carriage had soft cushions, and Shu Yu had him lie down and sleep.
The carriage swayed gently, and he surprisingly fell asleep.
Shu Yu smiled, and the group soon reached the city gate, queued up, and exited the city.
At the foot of the mountain, Meng Yunzheng and Meng Pei happened to come over.
Meng Pei was holding an ashes urn, wrapped layer upon layer with cloth.
His eyes were red again, and with a solemn expression, he got on Zhao Xi's carriage.
Old Doctor Zhao moved a box out, specially made to be shock-proof, and it was packed with cotton inside, making it sturdy all around.
"Put it in here."
Old Doctor Zhao looked at Meng Pei, but the latter shook his head, speaking hoarsely, "No need, I'll hold it a bit longer."
He looked down at the ashes urn, touching it reluctantly, "After so many years, it's rare to hold her again."
Old Doctor Zhao said no more, covered the box, pushed it back, and then signaled Zhao Xi to depart.
The two carriages headed to the dock one after the other.
This time, with ample time, Meng Yunzheng had booked several rooms early, at last not needing to worry about staying in the lower cabins.
The rooms they stayed in were on the third floor, some of the best available.
Gouwa had woken up, looking at the large ship before him, his eyes reflecting a strange amazement.
He had never seen anything like this; it seemed so big and impressive.
Seizing the chance, Shu Yu talked to him more. Seeing him looking at the large ship, she explained, "This is a ship. Soon, we'll be taking it. It travels on water. If you're curious, we can watch once it starts moving."
As she spoke, she and Ying Xi boarded the ship with Meng Pei and Old Doctor Zhao, leaving the horse carriages and horses to Meng Yunzheng and Zhao Xi to handle.
The room on the third floor was quite quiet, and this ship was even larger than the one they took to come here.
They hadn't arrived too early or late; most passengers on the big ship had already come.
After two quarters of an hour, the ship moved, slowly leaving the dock.
The view from the third floor was quite broad, so Shu Yu and the others didn't need to go down to the deck to see the scenery along the edge.
She found a room by the edge, opened the window, held Gouwa, and sat there, pointing outside, "Look, the ship is moving forward, isn't it amazing?"
It was indeed amazing.
Gouwa stared wide-eyed, watching the scenery retreat one by one.
He had always stayed at the Hong Family, only ever seeing that patch of land. He didn't know trees could be so numerous, didn't know people wouldn't fall off water, didn't know he could stand so high.
Shu Yu raised an eyebrow; she could feel a surge of excitement in the child.
He still didn't speak, but his expressions were becoming more and more animated.
