Chapter 199
Shen Ying surveyed the room full of her exes, her eyes nearly overwhelmed.
Objectively speaking, these men, as the chosen protagonists of their respective worlds, were undeniably exceptional in looks and charm.
Occasionally, Shen Ying would lament that they didn't exist in the same world, making it impossible to "collect" them visually.
But now, here they were—her wish granted.
She almost felt a little guilty toward the Patriarch for dismantling so many of his schemes, teaming up with Ji Lian to humiliate and intimidate them, and even sabotaging the elaborate conspiracies he had painstakingly designed.
Yet, the Patriarch repaid her malice with kindness, fulfilling her grandest desire.
She was practically giddy with delight, wrapping an arm around Lu Linwei's slender, muscular waist.
"I missed you so much. Go sit over there first."
Lu Linwei's face flushed, nearly forgetting his purpose—but he caught himself just in time.
With a growl, he snapped, "Don't try to distract me. I'm asking you a question."
He gestured around the room. "What the hell is all this? Didn't you promise me you wouldn't play around?"
"Some people really went all out, huh? What a variety of 'merchandise' on display."
His gaze then landed on three figures—one with deer antlers, another with bull horns, and the last with rabbit ears. His expression turned bewildered.
"Why are there people with horns and animal ears?"
He glared at Shen Ying. "Don't tell me this was your special request?"
Shen Ying waved her hand dismissively. "No, no. Even I'm not that perverted."
Lu Linwei nodded. "Good. Must be Gao Yingli's twisted idea, then."
At that moment, Gao Yingli strode over, smirking at Lu Linwei. "I've been listening to your nonsense for a while now. Just because others aren't speaking up doesn't mean they don't have a temper."
"I've been meaning to ask—what gives you, an ex-husband, the right to interrogate me like you're the main man here?"
"While I don't forbid you two from interacting, you can't just pretend the divorce never happened."
"I've tolerated how often you practically move into my house, yet you still act like I'm the one sneaking around. Do you just ignore real-world laws and common sense?"
Lu Linwei exploded at that. "The hell are you talking about? When did we ever get divorced?"
"You've been playing the pitiful, dying act to lure my wife, and I haven't even killed you for it. Now you've lost your mind, mistaking your delusions for reality?"
He scoffed, looking at Gao Yingli with mock pity. "Pathetic. Even in your dreams, you don't dare dream big. No matter how hard you dig, she's still mine."
Gao Yingli's face twisted in rage, and the two looked ready to brawl again.
Then, another voice cut in. "Who the hell are these idiots? They've been yapping nonstop since they got here."
Yu Ting pushed past Lu Linwei and Gao Yingli, frowning at Shen Ying. "I don't recognize these two from your social circle."
"Are they some kind of escorts?"
Lu Linwei and Gao Yingli, initially furious at being shoved aside by this stranger, suddenly flushed at his words.
To keep Shen Ying from straying, they had gone to some extreme lengths.
Especially Gao Yingli—how else could he have "stolen" her away without putting in the work as the top "entertainer"?
Reading their expressions, Yu Ting became even more convinced. He shot Shen Ying a glare before shooing the two men away.
"Scram. You're done here. And if she ever shows up again, don't you dare serve her. Get lost!"
Lu Linwei and Gao Yingli exchanged a glance, now fully aware of just how stupid this guy was.
Gao Yingli sneered. "What? Afraid we'll steal your business?"
Yu Ting bristled. "Who the hell needs to serve her?"
"That one time doesn't mean I'm in the industry!"
The two men, previously composed, darkened instantly.
They turned to Shen Ying. "What did he just say? One time?"
Shen Ying waved it off. "Impossible."
They barely relaxed before she added, "There's no way it was just one time."
Despite their vigilance, this guy had still managed to sneak in.
But Yu Ting wasn't having it. "How could you just admit that?"
"You think I have no pride?"
His loud protest successfully diverted attention.
Lu Linwei: "Since when do escorts have dignity?"
Gao Yingli: "You don't look cheap. How much did she pay you?"
Yu Ting: "Wait—you guys got paid?"
Lu Linwei and Gao Yingli: "…"
Well, no. They'd actually footed the bill for the private room and drinks.
While the three argued, Jiang Liuxu pulled Shen Ying aside. "Alright, when did these two happen?"
Shen Ying: "Before you."
Jiang Liuxu: "At least put some effort into lying to me. You think I'm as gullible as Yu Ting?"
Shen Ying shrugged. "Why won't you believe me when I'm telling the truth?"
"Thanks to them, I swore off marriage for life."
After all, being married did come with complications.
Jiang Liuxu studied her face. As someone who knew her well, he couldn't detect any deceit—despite how illogical it seemed.
He decided to trust her, directing a glare of near-hatred at Lu Linwei and Gao Yingli.
Was it because of these two idiots that he'd never gotten an official title?
Just as he thought this, a hand landed on his shoulder.
Jiang Liuxu turned—only to dodge a fist aimed at his face.
Four men stood before him, the leader radiating the same dumb energy as Yu Ting.
The man sneered. "Another one of Xia Meng's recruits?"
"I told you she's a pimp, but you kept insisting your 'entertainment company' was legit. Caught red-handed now, huh?"
"Is that woman insane? Recruiting someone this old? Weren't you guys 'strictly under 20'? Liars."
Jiang Liuxu smiled coolly at Shen Ying. "And this is—?"
Shen Ying: "After you."
Jiang Liuxu's smile froze.
Zhong Chen snorted. "What? He came first?"
"Next you'll say you were dating through your mom's womb."
Xing Jiale: "Don't believe a word she says. I fell for her lies too."
Gong Zhaoxi snapped, "Oh, shut up. It's been years, and you're still playing the victim?"
"We all know what you're really after."
Xiao Yun: "You're one to talk. Jiale just copies your moves."
Zhong Chen: "And you're the original backstabber who went after his bro's girl."
Jiang Liuxu watched as the group devolved into bickering before even addressing him. The scene felt eerily familiar.
Before he could speak, two horned figures approached.
Jiang Liuxu frowned. "Special effects makeup?"
"Your tastes really do cross species, huh."
Niu Xi spoke up. "Warden, you're being greedy this time."
"A dozen at once? Think you can handle that?"
As soon as he spoke, everyone in the room froze, staring in disbelief at the white-haired, dark-skinned, horned guy.
Even Lu Yu scooted away slightly, ashamed to be associated with him.
But Shen Ying looked at Niu Xi with satisfaction.
That's our Niu Xi for you—bold enough to say what she herself couldn't bring herself to voice.
