Chapter 3: The day I first saw
The moment Allen exited the talent-identifying room to call for the next student, something bizarre reflected in his field of vision.
Right in front of his eyes, a bunch of data strings of lines lined up in front of him.
name: [Elia Skovitch]
Class: [Beast Tamer]
Stage: [first stage]
Talent: [Wind Resistance]
Description: [The talent can help reduce the friction of the wind, increase the speed of the holder by two folds. Applicable to tamed beasts]
The moment Allen read these lines, he scratched his eyes a little bit, thinking that he was maybe hallucinating.
But the lines were there. After he opened his eyes again, they still existed.
The student asked Allen, "Is there something wrong?" Allen responded, "Oh, nothing. It's your turn now."
Allen moved through the corridor. Every time his eyes laid on another student new information kept popping up. It was making him dizzy.
He closed his eyes to relax a little bit, taking in a deep breath. He opened them again. It seemed that by regulating his energy and calming the Ena distribution inside his body, he could control this ability.
Thinking about the talent and the identification stone platform, it seemed that his talent started to manifest. And it seems that it's an auxiliary type and information type talent.
Walking through the corridor, Allen knew that there was too little information to judge if his talent was useful or not. At least from this point, he could glean any information about his enemies. And that is an advantage that can give him a leg up in a fight.
Walking out of the building, he went to the entrance of the school. Right at the entrance, Drake, while standing there, clearly excitement reflected in his eye's.
The moment Drake saw Allen, he waved at him, "Hey Allen, here!" and walking towards Drake Allen said, "Yo, from the look of it, your awakening was successful. And you seem to have got a good talent."
Drake smiled and said, "Indeed. Right now, I am an official beast tamer. And I've got a pretty good talent. And from the look of it, you did too."
Allen smiled silently.
It's an unwritten rule: "Guard your talent." Not asking about other people's talents. It's a silent rule in everyday society. After all, the talent someone has is his ace card. So the unwritten rule is that it's extremely disrespectful to inquire about someone else's talent.
Even when registering with the Beast Tamer Association, you can just register your type of talent to better get jobs identified that suit you.
Allen talked a little bit with Drake, exchanging pleasantries. Then he went home, getting on the bus. Allen knew that he would have an adapting period of 3 days before the contract day would come.
Every student who has awakened as a beast tamer is given a 3-day period to relax and regulate their energy and to get used to their talent. And to give their talent the time to manifest fully.
Stopping at the bus stop and getting out of the bus, Allen walked to the nearby grocery store. He picked up a few ingredients and headed back home.
He wanted to make a lavish dinner, a small celebration, to celebrate his awakening with his family. He opened the door and got into the house. After freshening up, he went to the kitchen. Lily is still in the daycare center and won't be coming anytime soon. It's still early So he thought that he would prepare the ingredients and review his own talent.
After getting the ingredients ready, he went back to the living room, and he sat by the couch, cross-legged, and he started to breathe in and out, entering a meditative state slowly to accumulate Ena. After a little while, he felt like diving under the water using the introspection, which is the ability to enter inside his sea of consciousness to check on his own sanctuary. The space wasn't big; it was as big as a small room, a 4x4 room. The inside was brightly lit, but it was a white space with nothing inside. The stronger the beast tamer becomes, the more space his own sanctuary will have. The wider the space is, the higher the level of the beast tamer is.
And every sanctuary will gain many characteristics depending on his new contracts with tamed beasts. Using these 3 days, he will try to accumulate and cultivate his mind and interact with the Ena in the atmosphere. It's like having a small holiday.
A holiday that he will use to collect information about this word.
At the same time, he should start inspecting his own talent. It is a very crucial step for him to understand how his talent works; from the moment he got out from school to the moment he entered his apartment, he kept looking at people and at tamed beasts.
It seems that his talent can identify and provide information about the target. Something like an appraisal from a game that he played on Earth.
Some people may think that appraisal is a so-so talent, not very good and not bad, but for Allen there is no bad talent; there is only a bad user.
He has to clearly understand how to use it and how to practically gain something from it. And he needs to get ready for the contract day, 3 days from now.
All students are offered a free pass to contract one beast from a beast hatchery right outside the edge of town.
This is some kind of welfare that the federation provides for all its citizens.
The first beast can be provided by the federation for free. Also, the quantity and the quality may vary, as buying a beast from high-end stores, whether it's a beast cub or an egg, may be much better than getting this free buy. But looking at his own financial situation, he has to make do.
Around 3:00 pm he got up from the couch and headed to the kitchen.
He started to prepare the ingredients and started cooking. At 4:00 the entrance door opened and little Lily entered the apartment. She went inside. And when she heard sounds in the kitchen, she headed towards the door of the kitchen.
"Hello, brother!" She greeted Allen with a smile, looking at Lily, who was clearly a little bit exhausted after having a blast of a day at the daycare.
He smiled and greeted her back, "Hello, Lily." "Was the daycare fun today?" Lily smiled and said, "Yes, it was very fun, Brother, will you cook again today?" Allen said, "Oh, yes, of course, I will cook. Today, I had an awakening ceremony at the school. So we will celebrate together, and I will cook a feast." Little drool started trickling down her mouth, and she said, "Then Lily won't eat any snacks. I will wait for big brother to prepare the dinner."
"Okay, honey. Go to your room and play. It won't be long before Mother comes.
When Ariana entered the house, she again smelled a very delicious aroma. She knew that her son was cooking again today.
Although she saw that this is somewhat bizarre behavior, it wasn't that unusual, as the former Allen was a very independent person, and he usually did chores at the house to help manage it, as she did not have much time because of her work.
She went inside. Then she saw Allen standing there in the kitchen, almost finished. She said, "Congratulations, son. How was your awakening?"
Allen looked at his own mother. She was a very strong person. He could see how fragile and exhausted she had become as she worked many shifts, sometimes even at night, just to cover their expenses.
Allen knew that the moment he contracted his own beast, his expenses would skyrocket. So he knew that with the meager amount that his mother earned every month, he couldn't even maybe feed his own beast.
He knew that he had to tackle the money problem soon.
Allen smiled back, and he said, "It was successful. And I also have a very good talent." Ariana smiled, and she said, "Thank God. I thought that you were so nervous yesterday. You started cooking. But it seems that you're alright." Allen laughed, "Yeah, I am fine, Why don't you go and freshen up? Dinner will be ready soon."
Ariana responded, "Thank you, honey."
After eating dinner with his mother and sister, Allen headed inside his room.
He lay down on his bed, thinking about his future plans. First, his talent is an information-related talent. But there was also the bizarre awakening ceremony, the three spheres that he saw, and the amount of Ena energy that he has consumed to awaken.
He made a mental note to look into these things. Tomorrow he will go to the library to collect more information and then try to scan more people and tamed beasts to find out more about his own talent. Slowly his eyelids were getting heavy, and he drifted back into sleep while thinking about what tomorrow might bring.
