Chapter 120: Chapter 119: That Hurts, You Know. I’ve Missed You
He quickly confirmed that the presence he sensed was indeed Itori.
Logically, Itori should've been at Helter Skelter Bar preparing to open for the day. So why was she here?
Driven by curiosity, Shiro Sakamaki took Megumi Kato and followed the direction where he sensed the unusual ghoul response.
After walking for about ten minutes, they stopped in front of a coffee shop.
The sign above the entrance clearly read "Ward 20," and the logo confirmed it—it was Anteiku, the same café from Tokyo Ghoul.
Through the glass, he could already see Kaneki Ken sitting inside.
"Kato-chan, want to grab a cup of coffee?"
"Eh? I don't mind, if Shiro-kun wants some."
"Then let's go in and check it out."
"Okay."
As soon as they stepped inside, every customer turned their eyes toward them.
From Shiro's perception, not a single human being was in the café—aside from the two of them.
Yomo Renji exchanged a glance with Koma Enji, who immediately understood. Picking up a menu, Koma moved around the café pretending to clean tables, silently circling and warning the other ghouls with sharp eyes. Then, he approached the pair.
"You two—what would you like to drink?"
Shiro, casually chatting with Megumi, turned his head at the voice.
Standing beside their table was a sharply dressed waiter—Koma Enji—with a strong nose, gray hair, and a calm expression.
"Kato-chan, what about you?"
Megumi flipped through the menu, eventually pointing to the signature coffee. "I'll have this one."
"Got it. And for you, sir?"
"I'll take the same—and a muffin."
"Understood. I'll bring it right out."
After Koma's silent warning, the ghouls in the room behaved more obediently. Still, a few couldn't resist eyeing the pair greedily now and then.
Only one ghoul wasn't harboring malicious thoughts toward them—Itori.
From the moment Shiro stepped into Anteiku, her body went rigid, cold sweat trickling down her back. Even lifting her cup felt like a struggle.
She never imagined she'd run into Shiro Sakamaki, a walking nightmare, on a day like this.
Every time she saw him, she remembered that night—the night he wiped out everyone in her bar in an instant.
Even with all her experience around violence, nothing compared to the sheer terror of that massacre.
Tsukiyama Shuu, seated across from her and impeccably dressed, noticed her discomfort.
"Ms. Itori, you look... unwell. Is something the matter?"
"It's nothing," she snapped.
Hands trembling, she downed her coffee in one go, breathing deeply to regain control.
But staying here even another second felt unbearable. Her instincts screamed: Run.
"Today's deal is off. When I get word about the shipment, I'll send someone to contact you. That's all."
She grabbed her bag, stood, and turned to leave.
…
Koma soon returned with the coffee and muffin. Shiro took a sip—surprisingly rich and well-balanced.
As a ghoul, achieving this flavor must have taken countless failed attempts. Not bad.
Megumi, still full from their earlier meal, wasn't in the mood for sweets, but the stares were making her uneasy—most of them aimed at Shiro.
She tugged his sleeve and whispered, "Shiro-kun… don't you think the atmosphere here is a bit... strange?"
Mouth full of waffle, Shiro replied, "Of course. That's because none of them are human…"
Megumi blinked in surprise. Her stunned expression was so adorable that Shiro couldn't resist pinching her cheek.
"Kato-chan's reactions are really too cute. I love it."
"Mo~ Shiro-kun, stop teasing me, or I'll get mad."
But her eyes betrayed a bit of joy.
"The coffee really is good. Try it."
Encouraged, Megumi took a sip—smooth and full-bodied. She nodded. "Mm, it's really nice."
Shiro finished his bite and said, "But I wasn't joking earlier. These guys really aren't human."
"Huh?" Megumi tilted her head. "They look normal to me…"
"You'll understand when we leave. Kato-chan, wait here for a bit."
"Did Shiro-kun spot someone he knows?"
"Hmm... you could say that."
With that, he stood up and walked toward Itori.
She had just shaken off Tsukiyama's chat and was about to slip out when Shiro appeared, silently blocking her path. He gently—but forcefully—pushed her back into her seat.
"What's this, Miss Itori? Were you really going to leave the moment you saw me?"
"That hurts, you know. I've missed you, Miss Itori. Shall we reminisce about that wonderful night?"
