Testament Of A Survivor

Chapter 4: Awakening

As I blinked away the remnants of sleep, I looked around the dimly lit room, my heart racing. The shadows danced on the walls, and I could still feel the lingering dread from the nightmare that had haunted me. It felt so real—my parents' faces twisted in fear, their cries echoing in my ears. Shaking off the feeling, I pushed myself up from the bed, the cold floor sending a shiver up my spine.

I took a deep breath, trying to steady my racing heart, but the images from my dream clung to me like a heavy fog. I had to see them, to know they were okay. Without thinking, I sprinted down the hallway, my feet pounding against the floor. The sound of my breath echoed in my ears as I reached the living room, a sense of urgency propelling me forward.

But as I turned the corner, my heart dropped into my stomach. The sight before me was a nightmare made flesh. My parents lay motionless on the floor, their bodies lifeless and still. The room was eerily silent, the usual warmth replaced by an overwhelming chill. I felt my legs buckle beneath me as I stumbled into the room, my mind racing to comprehend what I was seeing. The vibrant colors of the room faded into a dull gray, and all I could hear was the pounding of my heart, drowning out the world around me.

I dropped to my knees, tears streaming down my face as I reached out to touch them, hoping against hope that this was just another cruel trick of my mind. But the coldness of their skin was a harsh reality that shattered any remnants of disbelief. The nightmare had become my reality, and I was left alone in a world that felt impossibly dark.

Dawn's eyes fluttered open , taking in rough breath breaths to calm his wildly beating heart. He looked around only to see that he was in a hospital room, surrounded by beeping machines and sterile white walls. A faint smell of antiseptic hung in the air.

Turning his head to see the door of his ward opening only for a doctor to come in, the doctor took purposeful step as he tweaked with the machines, then the doctor walked to his location and the doctor stood over him, a somber expression on his face. "Welcome back, Dawn. My name is Dr. Lee. You've been with us for a few days."

Dawn's mind was foggy, but he tried to piece together what had happened. "What...what happened to me?" Then his memories came crashing at, causing his tears to stream out uncontrollably

Dr. Lee's expression turned grave. "You were the lone survivor of a catastrophic event at your shelter. I'm afraid everyone else...didn't make it."

Dawn's eyes turned bloodshot at more tears streamed down his eyes wetting his clothes and hands, then a man came in.

It was the man who had saved him – Ryker. He glanced at him then looked at the doctor then stepped into the room. "When will he be discharged."

Dawn's gaze narrowed. "Who are you?"

Ryker leaned against the wall, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "My name is Ryker. I'm an instructor at the Elyrian Academy. And your saviour."

Dawn looked at him without a single trace of gratitude "Why did you save me you should have let me for dead." Dawn spat out in anger.

"That's not a nice thing to say to your saviour" Mr. Lee said with annoyance clear in his voice.

Dawn looked at him about to retort but Ryker cut him to it "it doesn't matter if he appreciate or not all that matter is that he is going to Elyrian Academy".

"Don't even think about it am not going with you any where". Dawn retorted clearing annoyed.

Ryker chuckled. "That's not for you to decide."

Dawn's mind reeled as he lashed out "who the fuck are you to tell me what to do?"

Ryker grinned."I don't care if you disapprove you are going and that's final"

With that, Ryker turned and left the room.

"And besides someone is here to talk to you"

Then another man walked in wearing a straight black suit on top a plain white shirt and a straight black pants with a brief case in his hand. He stopped then nodded towards Lee which Lee reciprocated, turning towards him he said to him "my name is Thomas and am here to ask you some questions."
