Temple Livestream

Chapter 11: The Best Shad Soup!

After adding the tofu, Ning Fei waited ten minutes before placing the radish into the pot. Shortly after, the fresh fish soup was ready. He picked up the oil pan and carefully poured the steaming fish soup and the fish into a large bowl. The white soup swirled with steam, filled with side dishes, and the shad was particularly tempting.

"Why did I open this livestream? I'm so hungry!" one viewer commented.

"Wow, I really want to eat that."

"Can the host send me the leftover fish bones?"

"Great cooking skills! Respect."

"A man who can cook is so attractive."

The audience in the live stream was in awe.

Ning Fei, too, was satisfied with his work. As he glanced at the barrage of comments, he noticed many people complimenting his knife skills.

The reason he was so adept at them was because of his mastery of the skill "Extreme Knife Skills." He found that when cooking, everything felt natural. The process of preparing a dish would just pop into his head, as though it were second nature.

"Since everyone's interested in my knife skills," Ning Fei said with a smile to the camera, "I'll show you another technique later."

His words sparked enthusiastic responses from the audience.

Feeling hungry, Ning Fei sat down with a bowl of freshly cooked rice and pickled vegetables from his kimchi jar. Eating the fish and pickles together, he felt a deep sense of satisfaction.

Shad fish are large, so there was a lot of fish soup. Knowing he couldn't finish it all himself, Ning Fei poured some of the soup into a large thermos flask. The fish soup made from wild shad had high nutritional value, and if sold, would fetch a hefty price.

After dinner, it was almost 7 p.m. Ning Fei grabbed the thermos and headed out leisurely.

The viewers were curious, but Ning Fei addressed them with a smile:

"Sorry, folks, today's stream ends here. I'll be back tomorrow at 9 a.m. sharp. Hope you all join me then!"

"As for the knife skills I promised, I'll show them tomorrow. Something's come up, so I've got to run for now."

The audience was surprised by the sudden announcement, feeling as though the livestream had ended too soon.

"Come on, just a little more, please!" one viewer pleaded.

"Let's see the night routine before you go!" another joked.

"Just a few more minutes, Ning Fei."

Despite their requests, Ning Fei ended the livestream.

He felt content after the meal. The warmth of the soup spread through his body, and that sense of fullness was one of life's greatest pleasures.

He strolled along the mountain path. Though it was 7 p.m., the summer evening was still bright. It wouldn't get dark until after 8 p.m.

His destination was a nearby farmhouse.

"Grandma Wang, it's me again!" Ning Fei called out as he approached the yard.

At the sound of his voice, a small black-and-white dog came running, its tail wagging wildly in excitement.

Ning Fei had a special low-level pet feed reserved for moments like this. He smiled and called out, "Xiaobai," tossing the feed toward the dog. Xiaobai jumped up and swallowed it in one gulp. After eating, the puppy barked excitedly.

Ning Fei chuckled, remembering the description of the pet feed—"universally praised by animals." He guessed Xiaobai's barks were signs of approval.

He entered the house, where an elderly woman with gray hair was sitting, her face lighting up with a kind smile as Ning Fei arrived.

Ning Fei wasn't the type to offer help to every lonely elderly person on the mountain, but Grandma Wang was different. When he was a child, whenever he was punished by his master, he would often seek refuge at her house. In fact, about a third of his meals growing up had been eaten there.

Grandma Wang had worked hard her entire life, and her family had once been prosperous. Now, she had no sons and lived alone, making her a true widow. She had always been kind to Ning Fei, treating him like her own grandson.

But Grandma Wang was getting older. Her eyesight had deteriorated, and she could no longer manage farm work. Ning Fei had once taken her to a hospital in the city, where the doctors told him her cataracts were severe and difficult to treat. Since then, he had taken it upon himself to care for her.

"Grandma Wang, I made some fish soup today. You should drink it while it's hot," Ning Fei said as he fetched some tableware from the kitchen and poured the steaming soup into a bowl, placing it gently before her.

Grandma Wang smiled warmly, her failing eyes barely able to make out Ning Fei's shadow.

After serving the soup, Ning Fei tidied up her yard and sat down to chat with her. He told her about his livestream and the events of the day—though, of course, he left out any mention of the system.

He wasn't sure if she understood words like "livestream," "tips," or "fans," but Grandma Wang laughed often, clearly enjoying the conversation.

"I caught a huge shad today," Ning Fei said, his storytelling animated. "Its scales shimmered, and it was a beautiful fish. When I caught it, it looked at me as if it was begging."

Grandma Wang tensed up, worried about the fish's fate.

"But Master always said some animals are spiritual beings, and we should respect them. So, I released it," Ning Fei concluded with a smile.

Hearing that, Grandma Wang relaxed and chuckled, glad to hear the fish was spared.

Ning Fei stayed for over two hours, chatting and helping around the house. As he left, he made a silent vow to find a way to cure her eyes. He had once relied on hospitals and doctors, but now, with the system, he had access to unlimited possibilities. He just needed to gain more popularity points and unlock better skills.

That night, back in his room, Ning Fei reviewed the results of the day's livestream. He calculated that his first day's earnings totaled around 20,000 yuan. The popularity of the giant panda sighting and the rare white dragon fish catch had certainly helped, as well as the generous tip of ten rockets from Manager Wang.

Earning money through livestreaming wasn't easy, but as long as he kept things exciting—like showing pandas or catching rare fish—the income would follow.

At that moment, Ning Fei noticed several contract offers in his livestream platform's inbox. Just as he was about to take a closer look, an unfamiliar number called his phone.

"Hello, is this Mr. Ning Fei?" a calm, middle-aged voice asked.

"Yes, it's me. What can I do for you?" Ning Fei replied.

"We're from Panda TV. We've noticed your livestream has great potential, and we'd like to invite you to stream with us."

Ah, so they were trying to recruit him. Ning Fei thought this was expected. His high viewership and generous tips had certainly attracted attention on his first day.

When it came to choosing a livestream platform, Ning Fei wasn't picky. As long as the contract terms were favorable, he didn't mind switching. Several platforms had already sent him private messages, including Fighting Bird Live.

"So, what kind of contract is Panda TV offering?" Ning Fei asked, curious about their terms.

"We'd like to offer you a B-level contract. It's the highest tier we can offer at this stage. Typically, newcomers start at D-level, so a B-level is quite generous. Would you consider it?" the representative said.

Ning Fei frowned slightly. He knew the details of a B-level contract—an annual salary of 300,000 yuan, a 60/40 gift split in his favor, but the commitment was for five years.

Five years was far too long for his liking. The terms didn't align with his plans.

"Alright, I'll think about it," Ning Fei replied before ending the call.
