Chapter 20: Chapter 18: Crossing the Line
Sabrina knew the moment she walked out of that restaurant—she had just made a deal with the devil.
But the devil always paid well.
The next morning, a sleek black envelope awaited her on her desk. No name. No return address. Just a single, embossed logo on the seal—Knight Industries.
Inside was a file.
She flipped it open, her breath hitching as she scanned the first page.
A name. A company. A scandal waiting to happen.
Sabrina frowned. "What is this?"
"It's your next move."
She looked up. Nathaniel stood in her doorway, his suit impeccable, his expression calm.
"This is blackmail," she said.
"It's business," he corrected. "And if you want to survive, you need to learn the difference."
She closed the file, pushing it toward him. "I'm not doing this."
Nathaniel didn't look surprised. He simply walked toward her, placed his hands on her desk, and leaned in.
"You want power, Sabrina?" His voice was low, almost coaxing. "Then take it."
She hated how steady her hands felt. How part of her wanted to open that file again.
Nathaniel straightened, his smirk returning. "If you don't want it, fine. But someone else will. And when they use it against you, don't say I didn't warn you."
With that, he walked out.
Sabrina stared at the file, her mind racing.
She could walk away.
Or she could cross the line.
Her fingers hovered over the cover.
And then—she flipped it open.
