Taming The Tomboy

Chapter 2: 0 1| w o r k i t

A A R O N 'S P. O. V

Just another Monday where I try my best to be positive but history is just so annoying, isn't it?

Who wants to know what caused the First World War when you don't even need it in your life?

I opened the door to my room after climbing the stairs and didn't bother to put off any clothes. I just slumped into my bed lazily.

"Ah, " I groaned.

My mind wandered places and events that happened today were unfolding.

I remembered exchanging notes with Courtney while history was going on. She noticed I was bored and since she was avoiding sleeping in Miss Rodney's class, we started to play games and exchanged notes. It was fun.

I was grinning into the sheets when the door bell rang. Someone's at the door.

I grunted and turned over on my back.

"I thought this idiot is hanging out with his girlfriend. " I referred to Noah, my twin brother before sitting up. "Why the—"

Interrupting me, the bell was hit again repeatedly.

"Ugh. " I groaned and reluctantly strode out of my room, downstairs and then to the main door. "Yes?" I demand on opening the door.

Courtney's box smile greeted me. "Hey!"

Her energy was so infectious I found myself mirroring her smile as well. "Hey? What's up?"

I take a while to take in her appearance. She's no longer in her uniforms but a black leather jacket and denim shorts.

Courtney is a friend I have in common with Noah and I've known her since elementary. We didn't immediately become close then though, not until we graduated middle school and became classmates in freshman. She's usually very funny and nice. She lives a little far from our home and she couldn't just randomly stop by unless it's important which leads me to worry right now.

"Could I come in?"

"Er... Yes please..."

I raised my brows though. I was skeptical about it. I've never had a female around home alone unless Noah was here. He isn't here and so...

She must've sensed my discomfort because she started to shift her weight in both legs. She kept smiling awkwardly at me and made no move to come in.

"I promise I won't take too much of your time. I missed the maths assignments and I thought you could tutor me."

I did a double take when I took in the information. She's here for the homework?

I chuckle. "Oh. That's no big deal. You could've just sent a message before hand. I would've gotten everything else ready before your arrival!'

"Right. I'm sorry for being a bother too. I didn't mean to stop by so abruptly. Is Noah home?" She tilted her head to the side to get a peep inside the house.

"Nope. He's out with his new girl." I gave a little shoulder shrug.

Courtney rolled her eyes and I chuckle lowly. We all dislike the type of girls he hangs out with but hey, it's his choice anyway. Whatever works for him.

I let her in and for a moment, I was clueless what to do. This is all so new to me. I watched her take a stroll towards the fridge and I follow clueless. She kept staring at the deco on the exterior for a while little longer.

Most of the arts were made by her of course. She draws and doodles in her leisure and she occasionally brings some of her signature arts over some times.

I once appreciated them and Courtney, loving when one praises her, insisted on pasting them there anytime we had a group sleepover. I'm not complaining though. She gave the house a little bit touch of feminine warmth.

Abruptly, she turned around to face me and since the action was sudden, I let out an unintended 'ah'.

"Um—" I said at the same time she said, "Aaron—"

I let out a nervous laugh. "Carry on."

Courtney coyly smiles and did that thing she does when she's nervous— twirling a few strands of her hair around her index finger. "I was... wondering. Are you coming to the hockey match tomorrow? Noah said you're not coming because you have to read for the tests."

Right. That one...

The school I attend has an upcoming local hockey match with a neighboring school.

I'm a fan of hockey and would've loved to be there.

However, our weekly assessment tests is in a week's time, excluding the rest of this week, and I've got a lot to cover in my notes.

Especially History. I don't like that subject, damn.

Thank God it's only my senior year. I can't imagine how I survived it for four years.

"Ah yeah, I'm not sure I'd go. Social activities get to me, you know?"

Courtney gives me the you've got to be kidding me look with a pout. "So you'll stand us up? After four years of doing it together?"

"Oh no, Court..." I pace nearer and bridge the gap between us. She looked at me expectantly and for a while I'm short of words. She's pretty and seeing her so up close is too much for me. I took a step back and unconsciously dip my hands in my pockets.

These damn hormones...

I shut my eyes and try to form a sentence while stuttering it open.

"I-I have a lot to cover in my notes. A lot of projects. It's senior year. A lot is at stake and I don't want distractions."

"But all the rest of us are doing okay with those distractions." She pointed out, gesturing with her hands in a suggestive manner.

I let out an exasperated sigh. "I seriously—"

"I'm not taking no for an answer."

The next seconds was a staring contest between us. She had this playful suggestive smile on that confused me at first until realisation dawned on me.

"God, you're not here for the assignments!"

Her giggle was all the answers I needed.

"Why? Do I look like the type who gave two shits about maths homework? Pfft..." Her eye roll got me chuckling.

"My God, I didn't realise! You actually took a trip down here just to persuade me..."

"Thank me with one of those yogurts."

I make yogurts in my free time and only my friends have gotten to taste them. So far, they say it's great.

I shake my head but can't stop smiling. "Noah must've suggested this."

"Hell yeah. He did! And Tyler drove me here!"

Tyler is the fourth friend in the group. Well, the nice gentleman and somewhat crazy dude.

"He's here as well?"

"No. But when I was going to take a bus, he saw me by the road and gave me a hike."

"Oh."

Courtney filled the silence with her laughter and I raised my brows at her once again. Did I do something funny?

"Uh, nothing." She replied to my silent question. "I'm just...amused. Yeah. Your social life is zero. How the hell are you our friend?"

She must've thought the joke was funny but it wasn't and I didn't even know how to tell her I hate how they make me feel left out all the time.

So what I cared a little more about studies than they do?

"Anyways, you're coming now. And Daniel's birthday is just around the corner." Courtney said dismissively and opened the fridge.

I tried to process the information in that little time. Wait—

"It's Thanksgiving in a little while as well." I add thoughtfully. "Shit. Damn too many activities—"

"—for your lazy ass." Courtney adds. I remain silent as she brings out the yoghurt I preserved in a bottle and gave me a thumbs up.

"I can't get enough of these...." I caught her murmur.

I could only watch from a safe distance as she wandered off to the couch and crossed her legs over one another.

What next?

"You still writing those assignments?"

I didn't know what was wrong in what I said because the next thing, Courtney gave me the 'are you nuts?' glare.

Right
