Tales of the Bizarre: Beware of Your Roommate’s Online Girlfriend

Chapter 24 - The Most Effective Hidden Information

After hanging up the phone, He Gu felt a little expectant.

Finally, the internship notice has arrived!

He Gu walked downstairs quickly, leaving the dormitory building and heading straight for the cafeteria diagonally opposite the playground.

The cafeteria was still as spacious as ever, with not a soul in sight having a meal.

He Gu walked into the cafeteria hall, looked around, and saw no one except for the 6 cafeteria workers standing behind the windows.

Where was Teacher Fang?

He Gu felt a tightness in his chest and hurriedly took out his phone to call Teacher Fang again.

Soon, the call connected and Teacher Fang’s voice came from the earpiece: “He Gu? You’re not here yet?”

He Gu hurriedly said, “Teacher Fang, I’m at the cafeteria, but I don’t see you!”

Teacher Fang was stunned for a moment, then laughed and said, “Oh, I forgot to tell you, I’m upstairs.”

Hearing this, He Gu breathed a slight sigh of relief and turned to walk towards the stairs in the corner.

There was also a restaurant upstairs in the cafeteria, but that was where the faculty and staff dined. Students don’t usually go there.

He Gu climbed the stairs and soon arrived at the entrance of the 2nd floor restaurant.

The glass door of the restaurant was open. Inside was still empty, with only a middle-aged woman with a bob cut and shirt sitting in the corner – He Gu’s class advisor, Teacher Fang.

Just as He Gu was about to go in, he noticed an A4 sheet of paper posted on the glass door.

Seeing this paper, He Gu retracted his outstretched foot and carefully read the contents:

[Rule #5]
The 2nd floor is reserved for faculty and staff dining. Students are prohibited from entering.

So this was the 5th rule for this instance dungeon. And this rule only had that one sentence.

After He Gu was done reading, a sentence that only he could see faded into the blank area:

Hidden Information: You and the parrot can feel free to purchase and consume any food from the school.

Seeing this sentence, He Gu’s heart skipped a beat.

Whether human or parrot, both can feel free to purchase and consume any food from the school!

This sentence was perhaps the most directly effective piece of information He Gu had seen so far!

Since the hidden information came from He Gu’s SSS-tier talent [Eyes of Delusion Breaking], there was no need to doubt its authenticity.

With this information, He Gu could instantly eliminate several false rules!

Such as Rule #1 item 7: Do not feed the parrot any food or plain water other than bird feed;

As well as Rule #3 item 1: The shop does not sell “Delicious Beef Jerky”. If you see it appear on the shelves, please hand it over immediately to the staff in orange work clothes;

Rule #3 item 4: Do not accept the shopkeeper’s promotion of “Tasty Minced Beef”;

Rule #4 item 2: There is no food related to lamb in the cafeteria, please remember this;

Almost all the rules related to food were imposing various restrictions.

But according to this hidden information, He Gu could judge that these rules were all wrong!

For challengers in the world of bizarre events, wrong rules were often the most lethal link, but also the key to clearing the instance.

In that moment, He Gu felt like he suddenly understood many things.

Of course, now was not the time to be lost in thought.

While He Gu was standing at the door reading the rules, Teacher Fang inside the restaurant had already seen He Gu. She got up and waved her hand, “He Gu, over here!”

He Gu stood at the door and politely pointed at the A4 paper posted on it, shaking his head, “Teacher Fang, I can’t go in.”

“Although there are barely any people left on campus, we should still follow the rules.”

Hearing this, Teacher Fang’s eyebrows furrowed slightly, but she soon smiled again, “That’s true.”

She got up and walked over to He Gu, “It’s just a few words, I can tell you out here.”

Teacher Fang said as she took out an envelope from her bag and handed it to He Gu, “This is your internship notice.”

“The internship is at Kangde Chinese Medicine Factory in Lancome City. The address is in the suburbs of Songlin County, Lancome City.”

“One of our school’s teachers is stationed there to coordinate, his contact information is inside. I’ve already contacted them. Coincidentally they have a vehicle coming here today to deliver goods, and can give you a ride over, though not until tonight.”

“Go back and get packed. At 9pm tonight they’ll come to the school entrance to pick you up. They’ll contact you then.”

He Gu carefully noted Teacher Fang’s words and nodded, “Okay, thank you for arranging this.”

Teacher Fang smiled and shook her head, “No problem.”

After a pause, Teacher Fang added, “Their company delivery vehicle runs on a tight schedule. You must be at the school entrance promptly at 9pm tonight. If you miss this chance you’ll have to wait until next month when the factory arranges a vehicle to pick you up again.”

Saying this, Teacher Fang patted He Gu meaningfully on the shoulder, “You’re the last student left in our class. What a shame I have matters to attend to tonight and can’t personally see you off.”

Hearing this, He Gu’s heart involuntarily lurched.

What did she mean the “last student”?

And “personally see you off”?

These words sounded… strange!

He Gu thought for a moment, then asked, “Teacher Fang, so… the others from my dorm, they’re really all gone?”

Hearing this, Teacher Fang’s face stiffened, and she said somewhat displeased, “What do you mean? Are you implying I would joke about something like this?”

“Alright, I still have matters to attend to, won’t chat more with you. Go back and get ready.”

Having said that, Teacher Fang turned and walked back into the restaurant.

He Gu hesitated for a moment, but didn’t say anything else either. He turned and headed downstairs.

Returning to the first floor, as soon as He Gu entered the cafeteria, he noticed the 6 cafeteria workers behind the windows staring at him again.

Expressionless, staring straight at He Gu, following his every move.

He Gu felt uneasy being stared at like that, and also somewhat annoyed. He strode straight to the nearest window and called out, “Two steamer buns, two beef buns, to go.”

The worker behind the window woodenly shook his head, “Cafeteria rules, meat items cannot be taken away.”

Hearing this, He Gu was quite upset, but also powerless against the worker. He could only change his order, “Then one steamer bun to eat here, two tofu noodle buns and a soy milk to go!”

Soon, He Gu received his food.

One steamer basket of buns on a tray to eat here, and two tofu noodle buns wrapped in oily paper plus a soy milk to go.

What would happen if he ran outside with the steamer buns now?

A bold idea popped into He Gu’s mind.

But this idea had barely formed before it was immediately extinguished.

It was as if the cafeteria workers could perceive He Gu’s inner thoughts. Right after serving He Gu, two of the workers immediately left their stations and went to stand by the cafeteria entrance.

Their eyes never left He Gu, not even trying to hide it.

From their posture, it was as if they were just short of outright telling He Gu “Go ahead and try running”.
